The Su-24 can operate at long range, penetrate defences at high speed and low lewel and strike targets with high accurancy, during night or adverse weather. It can go to places the Su-27 can't, strike targets the Su-27 cannot find, with an accurancy the Su-27 cannot match.

I dream every night with a long range mission with the SU-24, at night, high speed, flying close to the terrain and between mountains in order to enter into enemy territory to delivery a precise attack on a enemy command center and try to return home safely..

I'm not dreaming about it, but it would be cool.

With the - 14 they have to explore the variable geometry aerodynamics, multi crew cockpit and with the 21 they have some experience with russian systems. Multi crew pit will be easier to develop I imagine.

I don't think this will be the next airframe. It would be very cool if it were though.

Are you taking this personally or something? Because I didn't say I don't want an Su24. I did do a quick wiki search before I posted that. I don't have hours to get into the complete detail of every plane mention on a speculation thread.

Hours? How about just the first few lines:

"The Sukhoi Su-24 (NATO reporting name: Fencer) is a supersonic, all-weather attack aircraft/interdictor developed in the Soviet Union. The aircraft features a variable-sweep wing, twin-engines and a side-by-side seating arrangement for its two crew. It was the first of the USSR's aircraft to carry an integrated digital navigation/attack system."

Since the Su-27 is an air-superiority fighter which doesn't carry any guided A2G weapons nor has an A2G radar and the Su-25 is a slow CAS platform without A2G radar, it becomes rather obvious that there is a point of them having the Su-24 in service in parallel.

Sorry for the cranky attitude, but I did expect a minimum amount of effort involved on a simulation forum to be slightly higher. :)

And I would LOVE to have the Su-24 in DCS so perhaps it was a bit personal ;)

The Su24 is definitely a dream aircraft, along with the Mig23. That being said if it's a viggen I'll probably buy it I'm so impressed by the Mig 21, it is probably gonna be a great module.

Yes, is almost clear that the next ones are going to be Viggen and Corsair/Hellcat.. hopefully somebody makes the SU-24 in the future..

Do we really have to start this discussion all over again, after more than 200 pages?? How about you guys read those pages first, since it has been discussed in depth there already. Especially the first post, which excludes many of the aircraft beeing proposed here...

You aussies do love your aardvarks don't you

The Pigs suited our airpower needs really well - it was fast, capable and more importantly had a great range - a very important consideration in our region. We converted four F-111C's into RF-111C's and while we didn't we should of at least had a few EF-111's.

The F-111C was continually updated and was a very capable strike aircraft for us, unfortunately age got the better of her as wing stress problems, scouring US boneyards for F-111 wings and budget constraints took their toll on her appeal. The Pig was also at a point where it was costing around 180hrs of maintanance for 1hr of flight.

They retired her in 2010 and are currently using Super Bugs as it's replacement (awaiting F-35)

.

Probably the worst thing about the Pig was that there were many maintenance/ground crew who acquired serious illnesses from handling the fuel tanks of the F-111 - thankfully they were compensated and standards were changed to prevent/lower future such problems - sadly it cost the lives of quite a few crew.

There is a great quote on wiki regarding the deterrant the F-111 was when a during a heated debate between Indonesian and Australian defence ministers was defused by our defence counterpart saying "Do you realise the Australians have a bomber that can put a bomb through that window and onto the table in front of us?"

The Pig was beautiful now I can only see her in pictures or at the various aviation museums around Australia. I would love to see a DCS level module of her.

Me too! Ugly and slow looking aircraft.

What can the Su24 do that the Su27 can't? AFAIK it doesn't even have a targeting pod/TV like the Su25.

Hope u wrong.

What a childish and pathetic reaction. If you're not going to contribute anything, get out.

That will be enough of that. Everyone needs to be respectful of everyone else here. Everyone is excited and hopeful for their favorite aircraft, if you don't like others opinions and suggestions I suggest you just ignore it.

Was that directed for me?

Exactly, everyone is entitled to their opinion. Wish it was a F-16, but will settle for the Viggen.

I hope it´s the Tornado oder Eurofighter! :-)

The Eurofighter is being done by VEAO. I wouldn't expect it for about a year and a half to two years.

How do you guys think the Ja-37 Viggen would stack up against the MiG-21bis in BVR and dogfighting?

I know what I think. I'm just curious about what you think :)

To be honest I'm not very pro about saab fighters!!

Didnt even know about gripen before to see it last years 1 or 2 years before!!

Haha, okay :)

Well, I think the Viggen is superior in BVR, with much better systems, radar and missiles. Also, it carries more fuel than the MiG-21, so it has longer range and doesn't have to waste time on "eco-driving". No big surprise there, eh? The MiG-21bis, even though it was in service at the same time as the Ja-37, was using a much older airframe which put some constraints on the design of the radar. It had to fit into a very small space and that limits it's performance.

Here's what I think might surprise some people: If the Viggen get into a dogfight with the MiG-21bis, it's going to have a really hard time defeating it, and might even end up losing the fight. Why you ask? Because the MiG-21bis has better acceleration, better rate of climb and a faster top speed. It's more agile and even though it looses a lot of energy while turning, it doesn't loose as much as the Viggen which looses energy ridiculously fast during high G turns.

I'd rather see things that have actually seen a decent amount of combat as well as some of the FC3 aircraft made into full aircraft instead of simplified like the F15

F16

A6 Intruder

A7 Corsair

S3 Viking

F4 Phantom

F100

Skyraider

A4 Skyhawk

It would be really nice to see a naval operation side to DCS with carrier ops.
