It's d/ling at a rate of 100kb/s to about 1 mb/s, manageable I would say, but probably wouldn't be too keen on it for a large module such as the NTTR.

To all those guys complaining, why don't you go have a coffee, have a bath, call your mum, spend time with your girlfriend/wife/boyfriend/husband, go for a walk, do whatever you enjoy :) This really isn't the end of the world :D It's an open beta..

Using torrent download speed was adequate (on a 1gbs fiber optic line) during the main part of the dl, but it petered out in the end. Which makes sense actually, since the updater closes after it had finished downloading... Therefore stops uploading to peers as well !

A mix of both methods would be acceptable I think !

Torrent Based Update System?

Uhummmmmmmmm Yeah

Well, IMHO the New Torrent Based update system is for the birds. I started the download and left my house over 3 hours ago to run some errands. I come back expecting to see my game ready to play but Nooooooooooooo...

I find the download is incomplete, and while I supposedly have 49 "Peers" my download rate is 5 KB/s. Its also cool I have control over the setting of this peer to peer sharing.

It sucks I am paying for High-speed internet only to my activities limited by OTHER peoples computer capabilities.

Not Bueno ED...Not Bueno.

Was doing 10kbps so I cancelled and am now getting a speed 1000x faster (literally) I think ED should abandon the torrent idea and stick to the old method, I'd rather have a server being temporarily slow/down due to a large influx of downloads rather than download something slower than most tectonic plates  I've already downloaded half the update writing this reply, before It took me literally 3+ hours to get like 31MB

Thank you so much, I was sitting on 0 for a half hour. This new system is not a good one as of yet.

Yes, I was shocked when saw the download rate. Unacceptable.

Clicking Cancel works for switching to other download method...

Yeah...OK. Downloading at a significantly better rate. Would have been Nice is a little forewarning and information was provided prior to implementing this little test.

But here's the thing...I want it OFF. Where are the settings for this feature? How do I go about ensuring all aspects of the torrent system are off?

It's a beta... you have to expect them to test things like this.

No...Not really. I can and DO expect them to do things with the game itself... That's fine. Changing how updates are downloaded to a torrent based system where MY computer and MY internet is being used to propagate THEIR product without giving me the ability to control the process was improper.

Doing so without passing along a little information such as how you cancel out of the torrent so you can download the regular way was no bueno.

Like I said, I pay for High-speed internet so I don't have to wait 3-4 hours for a download. I don't want MY time gaming infringed on because I'm waiting for OTHERS to decide to seed the download with their 56K dialup...

Low download speed once seed numbers pick up?

Hi there, there seems to be an issue with the torrenting version of the updates the beta is getting..

Initially when the update download started using the torrent downloads, which i assume is a new feature of the Updater, i was getting about a 4-6MB download speeds when building up the number of peers. Once it stabilised around 180 peers the speed has now dropped to about 150k/s.

Is there a fix to this issue or to force the update to use the direct download host instead of torrenting?

Also, if there are 180+ peers for these updates, who exactly is hosting them? Does the latest update turn my pc into a torrenting seed box full time, when the game is running, or does it only connect to people running full blown torrent apps?

**Also as a side question, does the repair install feature of DCS check all the content installed or just the base DCS World install? After getting the beta to download a few days ago i got an error log about updating some modules and now the Mig 21 has a partial see-through body and few other parts. I have ran the repair link in the start menu but the plane still has several areas of the body thats transparent.

Thanks for look, Greg.

Back when the original DCS clients were released before the updater was a "thing", torrenting the update or new base version actually was most times faster than the update from the ED servers themselves.

If you don't like the idea of "hidden update torrents", you probably should skip Windows 10 and a lot of other MMO type games which use it a lot.

Currently downloading the latest 1.5.1 update, with download rates varying rather wildly between a few KB/s and 1 MB/s (the top rate so far).

For BitTorrent this is quite unusual, I typically get much higher download speeds for stuff like LibreOffice or Linux distros.

The upload speed is also just a few hundred KB/s. I'd be willing to offer more bandwidth here, is there a way to set the upload limit?

On the other hand, BitTorrent is the way to go here! When 1.5 came out, I got kicked out of the download 5 times in a row, and without the ability to resume the download, that was just a waste of my time and ED's bandwidth.

It looks as if the downloader's BitTorrent implementation might need a bit of tweaking, but the idea is really good, in theory it should work much better, especially when new releases are just coming out and everybody tries to get them at the same time.

In any case, I think I'll be seeding a while after the download finishes today.

Edit: With less than 100 MB remaining, the download slowed down to a crawl, then to 0 KB/s, so I canceled and switched to HTTP, which got the rest done in a matter of seconds. Sorry, looks like I won't be seeding.

Same as others have mentioned... came up to have an hours flying before hitting the sack and have been stuck here twiddling my thumbs whilst watching the transfer rate fluctuate - currently at it's best so far - Peers: 184, Up: 264.0 KB/s, Down: 1.5MB/s

Do you play other games? A lot of them use torrent based systems to update... it isn't abnormal.
