That's amazing if you keep in mind that this bird has been in production since 1973!

I don't follow German defense news, but does that upgrade mean that Germany remains committed to the NATO nuclear sharing program?

Edit: Nevermind, found the answer: http://dip21.bundestag.de/dip21/btd/17/108/1710875.pdf , page 47

Germany remains comitted to NATOs nuclear sharing program. It will even upgrade its Tornados to be able to use the new JDAM variant of the B61, the B61-12. This is necesarry, because the US is upgrading its B61 bombs in germany to this variant.

I just noticed that number 9 in the pilots cockpit says "Tiefflugsystem" which means "low level flight system". Does anyone know what that does?

You just can't hate the tornado, it has so much character! Been used for nearly 50 years and its still front line ready. A proven design shows itself then needs to be shown.

More like 38 years, but close ;)

The panels look the same as the GR1, so on the right side of the pilots cockpit under number 7 is the terrain following radar on/stby/off and frequency switches then under number 9 are the autopilot mode buttons then under those is the height selection dial for TFR, TFR on/off button and under the dial is the ride selection switch (soft/med/hard IIRC) with a green ready lamp under the TFR on/off button.

So, is the DCS tornado ready yet? :D

Makes sense, that's exactly what I wanted to know. Thank you very much!

May I ask how you know all that (former/active mechanic or even pilot/wso perhaps)?

I'm afraid we're far from it, even though three companys stated their interest in making it happen or have already started working on it. :(

Afraid not, just have a keen interest in the tornado which I've grown up around with my father being in the RAF.

Imagine the ASSTA 3.1 as the german counterpart to the RAF GR4, although both differ in cockpit design they are both at the similar level of an up to date progress. I can not speak much about the ASSTA 3.1. What I can sy though is the fact that the ASSTA program keeps the Tornado fleet combat ready until 2025 minimum. Do to the NATO and Panavia restrictions is the ASSTA 3.1 upgraded Tornado completly restricted, unfortunately.

Well, that isn't much of a suprise, is it?

Still hoping for an older Tornado variant in DCS :)

The low level interdiction role would be more interesting for it anyway. I'd be more than happy with an early variant.

A low level interdictor is the way to go.

HP G2 Reverb (Needs upgrading), Windows 10 VR settings: IPD is 64.5mm, High image quality, G2 reset to 60Hz refresh rate. set to OpenXR, but Open XR tool kit disabled.

DCS: Pixel Density 1.0, Forced IPD at 55 (perceived world size), DLSS setting is quality at 1.0. VR Driver system: I9-9900KS 5Ghz CPU. XI Hero motherboard and RTX 3090 graphics card, 64 gigs Ram, No OC... Everything needs upgrading in this system!.

Vaicom user and what a superb freebie it is! Virpil Mongoose T50M3 base & Mongoose CM2 Grip (not set for dead stick), Virpil TCS collective with counterbalance kit (woof woof). Virpil Apache Grip (OMG). MFG pedals with damper upgrade. Total controls Apache MPDs set to virtual Reality height. Simshaker Jet Pro vibration seat.. Uses data from DCS not sound... goodbye VRS.

If they get the gameplay right, a la DI I'm sold. A GR3 would be ideal, but any Tornado would get my money.

You mean GR4

The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance.

As far as I know, there were no GR3. It went from GR1 straight to GR4.

Correct, dunno what Rotorhead11 is on about. There's no such thing as a GR3. I assume he must mean the F3.

Personally, I'd rather see the GR series, as I prefer ground pounding.

The Tornado Marks go:

GR1

F.2

F.3

GR4

That's only for the RAF, otherwise it is the Tornado IDS and the Tornado ADV for everyone else.

Germany had IDS, RECCE and ECR variants. RECCE is basically a modified IDS with a specific Reconnaissance pod, AFAIK.

The ECR is a specific Electronic Combat and Reconnaissance built, a SEAD optimized version with HARMS.

Maybe some expert on German Luftwaffe Tornados have more details.

The german Tornado upgrades also recieved special designations called ASSTA (Avionics System Software Tornado in Ada).

The most modern german Tornados are the ASSTA 3.1 Tornados.

Rotorhead11 account went funny. So this new one.

I was confused, but to be fair it was 20 odd years ago I played DI's Tornado. I'm no jet jockey but for some reason I had GR3 in my head. But as you pointed out there was no such mark.

Either way I would love to see one in DCS.

Hi,

This would be phenomenal! A flyable Tornado Module for DCS World. Yes, please!!

- Tornado GR4 and/or Tornado IDS (ASSTA 3.1)

I'm looking for so long: There are only 2 Add-On for

FSX

X-Plane

but these are not that what i'm looking for.

DCS World needs the Panavia Tornado! Really!
