Kuky Posted July 3, 2016 Posted July 3, 2016 One thing I don't like about this OR is that the OR Store has to be open every time you start DCS. Its really annoying. Johnny Dioxin Posted July 3, 2016 Posted July 3, 2016 Woohooo! Just had my first actual flight in the Ka-50 and it was awesomeness! :D My first actual flight in VR and I didn't feel any ill-effects at all. Great fun. Things I liked the most were looking out of the window at the stub-wings (and trying not to bang my head on the glass while I did that!!) and how incredibly stable the flight was, compared to wobbly 2D on lift-off. What I didn't like was the awful aliasing (lowest settings all round atm - but excellent performance, so I will test and adjust) and the really rubbish looking sea. The poor reflections really spoilt the view. This in 1.5.3 Oh - and switching the view to 'look back' from over the rotor blades - that was fantastic! I then jumped into the Gazelle. First thing I noticed was that the text on the panels was nowhere near as clear - possibly due to being smaller. Anyway, not having my controls set up for VR I just did the autostart and took off - again, far better and smoother than in 2D on the monitor. Went for a breathtaking low flight over the trees. Then I lost control. Oh dear! Helicopter diving and spinning out of control, and my stomach lurched! So I just closed my eyes and opened them only when the cacophony had stopped and the aircraft had come to rest in the trees. What a buzz! :D Rig: Asus TUF GAMING B650-PLUS; Ryzen 7800X3D ; 64GB DDR5 5600; RTX 4080; VPC T50 CM2 HOTAS; Pimax Crystal Light I'm learning to fly - but I ain't got wings With my head in VR - it's the next best thing!
Dojo Posted July 3, 2016 Posted July 3, 2016 in DCS Settings resolution still shows as 3840x2160 (res of the 4K TV). Should I change this to OR resolution (2160x1200)? EDIT: never mind, I realize this is exactly what I should do :) But if pixel density is more than 1 the actual rendering resolution is more than that, before being scaled down to rift resolution. Hey Kuky, I *suspect* that's not the case. DCS appears to ignore the monitor resolution setting when outputting to the Rift. I believe the PD setting is being applied to the native rift resolution (2160x1200), regardless of monitor config. The reason for my suspicion is that I've tried some extreme polar opposite values there and noticed no difference in perf. Let me know if you confirm different! [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
SageOT Posted July 3, 2016 Posted July 3, 2016 https://vrcover.com/product/oculus-rift-vr-cover/ My current issue is that, whilst everything inside the cockpit is clear and text is sharp (including the HUD), everything outside is quite blurry. Struggled to recognise an Mi-6 flying along the runway in front of my parking spot until it was directly in front of me and I recognised the silhouette. I think this may improve a lot when my VR lenses arrive (I hope so, anyway) otherwise, I'll be very disappointed. For now, I'm Rifting without my specs. EDIT: Unfortunately, the video doesn't do it justice: https://youtu.be/JngU_ErbEgU Crap I wish I would have known about this thing before I let a hundred and twelve family members sweat all over my Rift yesterday when they all tried it out LOL. Johnny Dioxin Posted July 3, 2016 Posted July 3, 2016 Some people have been complaining about it and aren't too happy - but many are. It doesn't stay on the Rift as well as previous versions, or the Vive one, because there isn't as much to hold it in place. People have their own solutions to that - tape or sticky velcro, for example, but so far mine has been okay, once I'm settled. If you have to keep taking the Rift off to look at a keyboard, for example, it can get frustrating, though. I just lift mine far enough to see enough and that works :) Rig: Asus TUF GAMING B650-PLUS; Ryzen 7800X3D ; 64GB DDR5 5600; RTX 4080; VPC T50 CM2 HOTAS; Pimax Crystal Light I'm learning to fly - but I ain't got wings With my head in VR - it's the next best thing!

Kuky Posted July 4, 2016 Posted July 4, 2016 There is no graphic setting to see wingtip vortices. The effect is always there. Make a mission with rain or high humidity, and they will show even at very small AoA and G. Will also Translate to DX12 / UWA Games. It Makes sense, as Kinect II can track you entire body, and individual fingers etc, even while holding controllers. dogbite Posted July 4, 2016 Posted July 4, 2016 As far as I can tell, there are a few hand tracking solutions "in development. Leap Motion could be useful, the Manus Glove could be cool http://www.wareable.com/vr/manus-vr-gloves-gdc More is development here https://www.engadget.com/2014/06/05/control-vr-motion-tracking-gloves/ It would seem a lot of hand and body peripherals are coming. I don't see why this wouldn't work for DCS as far as hands in the game goes. Anyone have an intel on if they plan on making orders on time for august and do we know if it is late or early august. I got mine from BestBuy, rather than wait for Oculus. There is a post back in this thread about setting up an alert to let you know they are in stock. You have to order right away, but it can be done. KLR Rico Posted July 5, 2016 Posted July 5, 2016 Nice chart! Do you have by any chance an older GTX lying around, to run with the same specs and see how much FPS 1080 adds? I have a 970 that I put in my wife's work computer, I'll see if I can steal it back for some testing. I didn't do any scientific testing at all when I did the swap, but when I first put in the 1080 I was a bit disappointed I didn't see any significant FPS increase in DCS at all. Then I cranked up the pixel density to 2.0 and suffered basically no FPS hit for a MUCH better image quality, which was worth the upgrade price itself. i5-4670K@4.5GHz / 16 GB RAM / SSD / GTX1080 Rift CV1 / G-seat / modded FFB HOTAS
Chivas Posted July 5, 2016 Posted July 5, 2016 For those wondering if they made the right VR headset choice for flight sims, here's a youtube video from UKRifter, who owns the DK1, DK2, CV1, and Vive. He loves his Vive, Rift, and the Vive gets more use with his family, and he makes some very interesting points on scale etc. In this case he's running Project Cars, but has done a number of flight sims aswell.

Anyone have an intel on if they plan on making orders on time for august and do we know if it is late or early august. Palmer has stated recently that Oculus should be caught up with orders in August or before if all works out. Anyway I would have serious reservations about ordering from Oculus. If you have to go thru the Oculus RMA process, good luck to you. Although that might speed up as well when orders catch up. The better option might be thru BestBuy if your close enough to one that sells them. You might have to wait for their next shipment to fill the RMA order, but it would still likely to be weeks quicker than the Oculus RMA process. Maybe order thru Oculus and cancel it if one come available at your local Bestbuy.
Enduro14 Posted July 5, 2016 Posted July 5, 2016 Thanks very tempting but already got a 1080 to pick up today lol. Wife would kill me, I'll wait until Jan after work trip. Crunchy Posted July 5, 2016 Posted July 5, 2016 How do you adjust your view in the A10C? I'm far to close to the front panels and want to move back a bit. I was able to do this before by pressing middle mouse button and dragging back the mouse, but it seems to have been removed now?

KLR Rico Posted July 5, 2016 Posted July 5, 2016 Hold RCtrl + RShift, then use the keypad to move around (I think * and - are the forward/aft adjustments). Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk Good stuff - I'm thinking of putting a little sticky velcro on the nose and at the top centre of the face liner on the Rift, just to keep it better in place. It can quite efficiently block out the nose gap if you want it to, but I don't notice that once the image is up in the Rift anyway. I use VAC , though I do have Voice Attack - I already had all my profiles for VAC done, so I guess it's just laziness (or lack of time) that has prevented me from trying VA up to now. I also don't have time to watch all those videos that they have, instead of a readme or pdf manual that I could refer to as I go. But there always seems to be something that needs to be pressed on the keyboard at some stage!
