Oculus Touch instead of visual keyboard

Several have mentioned the inconvenience of not being able to see the a keyboard using Oculus. Would Oculus "Touch" work better than a visible keyboard if it were implemented in DCS?

Has anyone reported trying to use"Touch" to move levers, turn knobs, flip switches and mouse clicks in DCS cockpits?

Thank you, florate

Newbie, box equipped with i7, two water cooled GTX 780s with 3 gigs each running an oculus cv1. It looks pretty good with an acceptable frame rate. Some loss of crispness with letters and numbers in the cockpit and ground targets are hard to see from the air. Don't appear to be size adjustable enough to see. Would I be likely to improve any of that with a single 1080 with 8 gigs?

Thanks, florate

What pixel density value do you set?

I think it's the only parameter which can improve readability.

From my experience, there is some improvement up to around 1.7.

So, in my opinion, if you're already able to play at 1.7 pd with your rig, upgrading the gpu won't noticeably help.

Getting major issues with the oculus 1.11 patch, in non DCS titles I float up into the air after playing for a while.

In DCS, this means my view resets itself to just above the cockpit level, then I have to press the recenter view key to fix it.

Unfortunately this happens all the time in the heat of battle and can really screw you over... This also means that when you recenter the view to fix it, you've now reentered to a incorrect position and eventually it will snap back again and you'll have to recenter it again.

I cant wait for oculus to get their sensors shit together (not likely).

If someone told me today that with the Vive I would have better visual clarity than the rift and it was just as comfortable I Would switch platforms in a heartbeat.

The Vives tracking is just leaps and bounds better, and the sensors dont require USB cables all over your room. The only downside I see to the Vive at the moment is that its less refined and has worse DCS compatability (but that worse comparability / performance / feature gap seems to be closing smaller with every release).

I stuck it out with Oculus because they were first with the idea, thought they deserved the money and DCS supported Oculus better at the start.

Ever since facebook bought them I'm rethinking my position.

Oculus' forums and reddit are rife with people complaining about tracking issues with the latest update, but is there an official post from Oculus admitting they realize seemingly half or more of their users have these issues with roomscale / standing setups? No. They wont admit anything, they keep quiet in a terrible attempt to avoid damaging their brand. If they make a post that says "Our tracking is currently shit, heres what were doing to fix it" all the media outlets will run a article on even Oculus says their tracking sucks.

something seems out of whack. I've had ZERO issues with CV1 tracking. Granted, Vive is better but it also ships with two sensors. (in addition to the whole laser/lighthouse tech). But I've never had an issue with CV1 losing tracking.

No my setup is just how they recommend it, I am using 3 sensors however, wallmounted for roomscale. I tried unplugging 1 but it didnt seem to make a difference.

That is a weird issue some are having with the 1.11 runtime. I don't seem to have it on my system. @Vulcan have you any other USB ports you could try? Are you using motherboard USB or PCIe addon card?

I just did a demo at the Microsoft store with Vive and Oculus Rift. I was really blown away by the virtual 3d immersion. I've done a lot of reading in the forums and am not sure which to buy...or to wait till I hear the glitches are ironed out and the resolution is better. It's an expensive investment, not looking foreword to systemic issues.

I've asked a similar question in this thread it's worth reading. And here I am 3 weeks later so glad I went ahead and bought the Rift. Of course you could wait for 2 more years till the next gen devices and graphics cards to be able to run the game at a higher res. but for what it is now it's worth it! As soon as you immerse yourself inside a cockpit you will release that resolution is of no such significance anymore. I tell you what it's like. It's like asking should I wait for a 32k TV or enjoy watching high def movies today. And one more thing. After trying the Rift for a couple of days there is no way I would go back to play DCS with trackIR on a monitor.

WOW I caught your enthusiasm...thanks it's good to hear!

I noticed it mentioned the need to have lots of cables/ports, the HDMI mentioned I assume is referencing the video card HDMI port, is that the only connection to the video card?

Hi,

sorry for when someone asked this question before, but is there a solution to position the kneeboard in vr? For example on pilots knee?

Thanks for your help.

Hehe, yea thats the really hard part. And realistic I guess.

Im sitting in a Sparco race seat, bucket type, and that makes it even harder to bend around and see whats up back there. For a brief period I was using a swivel chair (temporary set up), and that was a lot easier. Not only because of the swivel, but just the shape/ergonomics of the thing. If I swiveled that of course made it even easier.

What I need here in my Sparco seat (set up), are some handles I can grab, and pull in to get me off the seat/out of the bucket, help me bend around - like in a real fighter.

In the same go I have been wondering about F-16 pilots, where the seat is at a 30 degree angle. Must be extra hard to turn around (come of the seat a little) and look, or?

Edit: Should ad that its pretty much impossible for me, to check my straight six. 5 and 7 I can do, just about. 5 is the hardest for me, maybe becasue Im a righty, and my right hand is on the stick? A little more FOV would help for sure, but even with that, I dont think I would be able to focus on my six. So sitting in a plane with bad rear view helps, hehe.

Nope :)

Im so glad we dont feel the G's.

But indeed, and then keep pulling them G's and fight blacking out. Ive often thought about that aspect of dog fighting, the stamina part, and how horrifying it must be, feeling your energy drain and simply not being able to pull the needed G's, to keep the bugger from getting a shooting solution on you.

Hi, guys. Another question from vr beginner: how do you ppl looking back without breaking a neck? Is it possible to bind "look behind" to a key?

I have a 'look behind' key using a monitor, I hope it still works using Rift.
