TLTeo Posted February 14, 2020 Posted February 14, 2020 That looks like an AIM-7 mounted on the wing station of a Hornet to me.
Raven68 Posted February 14, 2020 Posted February 14, 2020 That looks like an AIM-7 mounted on the wing station of a Hornet to me. I noticed this also, but my question does the wing stand that high of the carrier deck on the Hornet? sirrah Posted February 14, 2020 Posted February 14, 2020 I noticed this also, but my question does the wing stand that high of the carrier deck on the Hornet? Exactly that is making me doubt aswell. Also there seems to be some sort of pylon adapter there which I don't recognize System specs: i7-8700K @stock speed - GTX 1080TI @ stock speed - AsRock Extreme4 Z370 - 32GB DDR4 @3GHz- 500GB SSD - 2TB nvme - 650W PSU HP Reverb G1 v2 - Saitek Pro pedals - TM Warthog HOTAS - TM F/A-18 Grip - TM Cougar HOTAS (NN-Dan mod) & (throttle standalone mod) - VIRPIL VPC Rotor TCS Plus with ALPHA-L grip - Pointctrl & aux banks <-- must have for VR users!! - Andre's SimShaker Jetpad - Fully adjustable DIY playseat - VA+VAICOM - Realsimulator FSSB-R3 ~ That nuke might not have been the best of ideas, Sir... the enemy is furious ~ GUMMBAH
kontiuka Posted February 14, 2020 Posted February 14, 2020 I noticed this also, but my question does the wing stand that high of the carrier deck on the Hornet?Ya, I was thinking that too. And the missile doesn't quite look like an AIM-7. Hard to tell from that angle.
Raven (Elysian Angel) Posted February 14, 2020 Posted February 14, 2020 Looks like an AIM-7 to me. kontiuka Posted February 14, 2020 Posted February 14, 2020 Looks like an AIM-7 to me. Perhaps that AIM-7P we were promised ages ago? :)Maybe. Fins look a little odd to me for an AIM-7. Really thick at the base and there seems to be some protuberances on the tips. Anyway, just my uninformed opinion.:P

kontiuka Posted February 14, 2020 Posted February 14, 2020 I was probably just seeing things (F18C with dummy Sparrow )Height of the pylon in the ED pic seems much higher than in that archive pic. Maybe it's just the perspective.
Raisuli Posted February 14, 2020 Posted February 14, 2020 I was probably just seeing things (F18C with dummy Sparrow ) AGM-88 with the pylon adapter
Eldur Posted February 14, 2020 Posted February 14, 2020 Exactly that is making me doubt aswell. Also there seems to be some sort of pylon adapter there which I don't recognize I guess this is the usual pylon adapter which quadruples the drag of the whole airframe.
ED Team Wags Posted February 14, 2020 ED Team Posted February 14, 2020 Maybe. Fins look a little odd to me for an AIM-7. Really thick at the base and there seems to be some protuberances on the tips. Anyway, just my uninformed opinion.:P Folks, it's just an AIM-7M loaded on a Hornet with a Supercarrier deck crewman. Nothing to read into it. AIM-7P is still on the to-do list, but a very low priority compared to other features.
