QuiGon Posted November 2, 2018 Posted November 2, 2018 (edited) First thing I will do is reading through the manual. After that I will jump into a cold start custom training mission as a RIO together with my pilot buddy to put the theory into action. Edited November 2, 2018 by QuiGon Intel i7-12700K @ 8x5GHz+4x3.8GHz + 32 GB DDR5 RAM + Nvidia Geforce RTX 2080 (8 GB VRAM) + M.2 SSD + Windows 10 64Bit DCS Panavia Tornado (IDS) really needs to be a thing!
Swordsman422 Posted November 2, 2018 Posted November 2, 2018 Definitely map my keys. After that, any initial training scenarios required to get started up and flying, then I'll insert the F-14 into my free flight scenario and just get used to the jet for a while.
Bad Idea Hat Posted November 2, 2018 Posted November 2, 2018 Bounce it off the runway somewhere a bunch of times.
Haukka81 Posted November 2, 2018 Posted November 2, 2018 Test fly like crazy and check that my stick is hard as stone :P Oculus CV1, Odyssey, Pimax 5k+ (i5 8400, 24gb ddr4 3000mhz, 1080Ti OC ) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

shagrat Posted November 2, 2018 Posted November 2, 2018 Free flight mission, probably forget to map axis and buttons, so Pause and do that on the fly and then go burners and have some fun! ...trying to land the Cat and likely succeed at the first try! Then start in earnest learning startup, take off, landing while failing gloriously, realising the first landing was a lucky shot. It's always like that with a new plane. :megalol: Shagrat - Flying Sims since 1984 - Win 10 | i5 10600K@4.1GHz | 64GB | GeForce RTX 3090 - Asus VG34VQL1B | TrackIR5 | Simshaker & Jetseat | VPForce Rhino Base & VIRPIL T50 CM2 Stick on 200mm curved extension | VIRPIL T50 CM2 Throttle | VPC Rotor TCS Plus/Apache64 Grip | MFG Crosswind Rudder Pedals | WW Top Gun MIP | a hand made AHCP | 2x Elgato StreamDeck (Buttons galore)
javelina1 Posted November 2, 2018 Posted November 2, 2018 Just like the Hornet, my first flight I tried a trap. I'll do it with the Turkey too. outlawal2 Posted November 2, 2018 Posted November 2, 2018 Crash it into the back of a carrier? Probably this.. "Pride is a poor substitute for intelligence." RAMBO
VZ_342 Posted November 2, 2018 Posted November 2, 2018 Select “instant action/free flight” and immediately start with an uncontrollable spin/gyration. “Pause”, then adjust axis controls, and start flying and seeing how she flies.
BuzzU Posted November 2, 2018 Posted November 2, 2018 Just fly around and see how it feels. Find it's limits. Buzz

BuzzU Posted November 2, 2018 Posted November 2, 2018 Buzzing the tower is what's behind the name I took. I only use it in flight sims. I also had BnZ in mind too. Buzz
FSKRipper Posted November 2, 2018 Posted November 2, 2018 Since playing volleyball (shirtless of course) on the beach is not an option in winter, I will try if the ejection seat works for Pilot and RIO this time with a buddy of mine :music_whistling: i9 9900K @ 5,0GHz | 1080GTX | 32GB RAM | 256GB, 512GB & 1TB Samsung SSDs | TIR5 w/ Track Clip | Virpil T-50 Stick with extension + Warthog Throttle | MFG Crosswind pedals | Gametrix 908 Jetseat [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Nexus-6 Posted November 2, 2018 Posted November 2, 2018 I use a very "crawl before you walk" approach. Before I ever think about getting off the ground, I go through the steps to get the jet alive and breathing...and then I restart and do it again...and again...and again. Until I can do it from memory. After that, I pick a large airfield and practice steering the jet on the ground. Learning to judge distance and how much input to give the pedals. Then I take off, and learn to "fly". Memorize where everything is in the pit. After I'm reasonably comfortable with all that, THEN I teach myself to fight. Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk Can't pretend fly as well as you can.

norbot Posted November 2, 2018 Posted November 2, 2018 I'll keep flying the Hornet and the Hog. The Tomcat isn't really a dream of mine. Don't think I'll buy the module.
CaptJodan Posted November 2, 2018 Posted November 2, 2018 Fly her and find her limits in the air. Maneuvers, stalls, see if I can get it into a spin, probably waste millions of dollars in aircraft. After a couple of (hopefully successful) landings on a normal runway, go to the boat and rinse and repeat carrier landings.
