jojo Posted February 20, 2019 Posted February 20, 2019 (edited) Now that ED is pushing Navy fighters with SEAD capacity (Hornet) it’s time to upgrade ship’s radar simulation. Land SAM system are pretty well done with search & acquisition radar + fire control radar. We should have the same thing on ships, especially Russian ships which use derivatives of land SAM. They usually also have dedicated radar for main gun and or CIWS. Currently we only one threat symbol on RWR, which means a SEAD system can’t target specific ship’s weapon systems. Please, give us better simulation of ship’s radar systems. Edited February 20, 2019 by jojo 1 Mirage fanatic ! QuiGon Posted February 20, 2019 Posted February 20, 2019 Well, before that they should implement a modular damage system for ships, because currently it's not possible to destroy subsystems of a ship (e.g. radar). 2 Intel i7-12700K @ 8x5GHz+4x3.8GHz + 32 GB DDR5 RAM + Nvidia Geforce RTX 2080 (8 GB VRAM) + M.2 SSD + Windows 10 64Bit DCS Panavia Tornado (IDS) really needs to be a thing!

QuiGon Posted February 20, 2019 Posted February 20, 2019 IIRC it is on some ships already... It is? That's new to me. What ships exactly? Kang Posted February 20, 2019 Posted February 20, 2019 I'm not sure if this is functional or just cosmetic, but I've seen different kinds of hits resulting in visually different states of destruction on an OHP frigate. Some of the ships are fairly old models and could do with a slight rework as a whole. Plus a lot of them seem to have very strange LOD behaviour rendering them invisible at certain ranges or viewing angles, which makes their use in missions rather questionable.
Grimes Posted February 21, 2019 Posted February 21, 2019 It is functional damage but is quite limited. For instance if the bridge of a ship is destroyed it will not move. Weapon systems get destroyed it shouldn't fire. That sort of thing. The right man in the wrong place makes all the difference in the world. MBot Posted February 21, 2019 Posted February 21, 2019 +1 By the time we will have a working Harpoon for the Hornet, it will be highly dersirable to complement anti-ship strikes by being able to knock out individual ship radars with HARM. Right now, HARM hit ships in the center of the hull where it does little structural damage and has no effect on ship sensors.

That’s my point, in one old Super Hornet Simulator, a HARM + Harpoon combo was highly desirable to knock out ships. Not being able to damage ship's radar with HARM is major issue. Northstar98 Posted February 23, 2019 Posted February 23, 2019 +1 Would be good if ships could experience better subsystem damage, I feel like the naval environment is one where DCS is lacking, but I guess there are more pressing issues than enhancing ships. It would be nice to see some improvements to naval assets in the future though. jojo Posted February 24, 2019 Author Posted February 24, 2019 At least as a stop gap, it should be possible to kill the only existing radar currently on the ship. The antennas are in place and rotating (expected for APAR off course :D) Mirage fanatic !
