Note: Helicopters with no armed variants were left out (e.g. 4.6 Bell 47, 2.6 Mi-1)

Note: For a couple of these - most notably the Meteor - the differences between airframes are so extensive they should really be counted as consisting of multiple types. Also, quite interestingly, most of the missing aircraft after this initial list would be Korean War era US Navy aircraft.

Note: Aircraft listed run from approximately 1948-1988 (excepting helicopters). WWII aircraft aren't listed, nor are aircraft which are too modern to model successfully. It is also important to note that some aircraft listed are too classified to model (most long ranged bombers fall into this category).

Certainly! I can think of quite a few aircraft that remained design studies, but which I'd love to see simulated.

 

However, number produced is a rough first approximation of historical importance! If one wants to model a hypothetical air-war for a certain period of time... leaving out some of the most numerous aircraft isn't a good idea.

 

For instance, a 1950s European war should have the B-47 and Il-28. Vietnam should have the Mig-17 and A-1. Korea should have the F-84 and F-84F... at least as AI aircraft!

If Nick gets his way this will be the case. Nick took over the Company when his business partner passed away but it has always only been a passion project for him. Hes openly stated that he much prefers WW2 aerial combat then Modern air combat which is why we got WW2 aircraft in the first place.

 

I expect we'll see much more even before any of the aircraft listed in the OP.

That actually makes it even more confusing that ED seems so completely disinterested in making any iconic cold war era planes. At least to me it seems like that would be a 'middle ground' sort of thing to bring together jet and WW2 communities both in players and developers. But maybe that's just not true.

For Korean war, The iconic F9F Panther comes to mind which was carrier based.

We could use more carrier capable aircraft now that we have the Supercarrier module.

 

Speaking of carriers, how about WWll carriers like the Enterprise or Yorktown?

Of course then we would need planes like the F4F, F6F, F8F, TBD, F4U, et al.

Also... at the rate they are going they'll have to start modelling the Korean War in four or six years... as they'll have modeled most other numerous/popular aircraft (unless they spend a lot of time on WW2).

Yeah, originally I was working from a list of most produced aircraft and then filling in gaps, but there may be a number of types with less than one thousand produced which are missing form the list (e.g. Buccaneer 0.21, Sea Vixen 0.15).

Belsimtek did them to be fair. Thus, I believe ED being uninterested in making Cold War aircraft is a very much accurate observation, sadly.
