SkateZilla Posted November 23, 2012 Posted November 23, 2012 I cannot determine what users do and do not read what is posted. Best Line Ever. There.. ya'll got a update from the wag man himself. dont know what all the harping is about. I'd rather have most of the bugs and features fixed before we get a new playground.. no sense relocating to Nevada if we cant fly around it without problems we're having in Georgia.. evilnate Posted November 23, 2012 Posted November 23, 2012 As has been stated several times before, the map itself is almost done. The long delay is due to development of a new rendering engine that is capable of rending the this map and its very high level of detail at acceptable frame rates. Developing a new rendering engine is a very long and complex matter. There have also been some delays due to some changes in staffing and the team having to work on some other projects in parallel. When there is new news, there will be an announcement. At this time, given the work on the engine, it is not even possible to run the map to take screen shots. Fantastic news! Does anyone know if the new rendering engine will help speed up the process of developing future areas of the world?
ED Team NineLine Posted November 23, 2012 ED Team Posted November 23, 2012 Fantastic news! Does anyone know if the new rendering engine will help speed up the process of developing future areas of the world? They said that an SDK would follow the release of EDGE which would enable 3rd party developers to make new maps. Forum Rules • My YouTube • My Discord - NineLine#0440• **How to Report a Bug**
Cedaway Posted November 23, 2012 Posted November 23, 2012 Thank you for the update Wags. Playground nearly completed but EDGE-Enhanced not ready. I've missed that info. Hellfire257 Posted November 23, 2012 Posted November 23, 2012 I'm still wondering what I'll see first; my bus pass or Nevada.
Newt Posted November 23, 2012 Posted November 23, 2012 My concerns weren't so much that it is taking so long (when they change it from simple new map to new engine, delays are to be expected). My concerns were over not being told anything for so long. This news may have been mentioned before, but it is the first time I have heard of it, too. Anyway, thank you, Wags. All I wanted was the small update just given. I also apologize for myself and everyone else straining to contain their excitement. I, at least, never meant to be annoying or whiny. I was just expressing concern as a fan and customer. I'm certain that is case for most. Whether or not they express those concerns in a polite way is another story. PFunk1606688187 Posted November 23, 2012 Posted November 23, 2012 This is probably going to be one of the turning points for DCS and its so far sterile content base. Not just a new map but the ability for the community to make maps. I hope this isn't just going to be an SDK for 3rd party developers but something that the community as a whole can use to produce freeware mods for DCS. Warning: Nothing I say is automatically correct, even if I think it is.

Really glad to hear about a new engine Matt. I think its about time for an upgrade. I am sure you guys will.....but I think you guys should take as much time as needed to make a great engine. Its the backbone of this whole ecosystem and needs to be smart and scalable. I think tech has progressed a lot since the Lock On age and maybe its nice to re-assess the code and perhaps even consider looking at a few other engines like frostbite 2, unreal, cryengine etc for ideas to see how they efficiently process their workflow. Silver_Dragon Posted November 23, 2012 Posted November 23, 2012 not sure, but frostbite 2, unreal, cryengine has no capable of simulate at "simulator" level of DCS. jmod Posted November 24, 2012 Posted November 24, 2012 (edited) As has been stated several times before, the map itself is almost done. I don't think so! This is brand new information that Nevada Map itself is finished (which is fantastic). The long delay is due to development of a new rendering engine that is capable of rending the this map and its very high level of detail at acceptable frame rates. Acceptable Frame Rate would be 60+ (obtained by 64-bit, multitasking). :D Anyway, thank you for the information. We (the community) will wait (intelligently, happily, and patiently) for a very high level of detail map. :) The Nevada Map should be the standard (like DCS: A-10C Warthog for its quality, and high fidelity) to other 3rd party maps. You could imagine "the most realistic aircraft with the most realistic terrain with the smoothest simulation engine"! Edited November 24, 2012 by jmod Let's fly together for the sake of peace :)

Kuky Posted November 24, 2012 Posted November 24, 2012 Hm... I don't recall this info about Nevada map being actually completed either... this is something new to me and of course it's good news. Rusty_M Posted November 24, 2012 Posted November 24, 2012 jmod, I think you're unlikely to get 60fps consistently from ED. They already have 64bit, and some multithreading although by many accounts, that could be improved, but not without a LOT of work. The world is going mad. Me? I'm doing fine! http://www.twitch.tv/rusty_the_robot https://www.youtube.com/user/RustyRobotGaming

jp203000 Posted November 24, 2012 Posted November 24, 2012 I was so kind to summarize what wags said in one sentence: One more year.
Blarney Posted November 24, 2012 Posted November 24, 2012 I am more than willing to wait for the new map engine. With ED's history, it will be fantastic. Imagine if they're coding it to take advantage of multi-threaded processors. AMD has recently come out with an 8 core CPU that runs natively at 4GHz. That's a lot of power available if all cores are used. I'm thinking about building a dedicated LAN server for DCS World. My hardware choices will be made around this topic. 486DX w/turbo button

theGozr Posted November 24, 2012 Posted November 24, 2012 Well if the Terrain engine is less demanding and better performance GPU choice should be easier. Fly it like you stole it..
