Well, if the focus stay sharp on everything in the center off the screen... say a building a click away and everything else 5 km behind and before also, unless it is let's say at the edge of your view. That could work.

Imagine 90* fov things between 0* to 5* as well as 85* to 90* AND nearer than 5000m from the centered "object" or area get out of focus as well as the cities and mountains at 5000m behind the focal point aka center of screen. In the end we don't know how it works or looks in game because we can't judge from a static screenshot.

Speculating at best. So with the option to turn it off, it is a no brainer for me. If I don't like it, I switch it off! No problem!

i think i would hate to have a simulated blur effect which tries to resemble to focus of the human eye, as the eyes are already doing this while staring at the screen...

so i think, for video and screenshots, this effect is very nice, but while actually flying, i personally wouldnt want to see it...of course if it is optional i wouldnt mind.

It is the only part of the camera/lens that controls depth-of-field.

A Lytro light field camera, may prove you wrong there :smartass:

Anyway, we should wait for the release and see for ourselves hoe it is beneficial or not.

That is what I thought initially as well, although I am starting to sway a little, it could help with determining distances better and such... when you are staying at the monitor now you have little to no depth perception.

true, but for example you are using trackir....now the game only knows where your head is pointing to, but not where you are actually looking at...

of course maybe they somehow manage it so that spotting actually gets somehow better with this,...but i fear that it would be worse.

Its hard to say till we can actually try it.

I really like the new atmospheric scattering/light effects. Really!

However, in the screenshot below, it looks like the mountains in the distance on the right hand side are lit up by a sun to the viewers right, coming from a 4 o'clock position, while the sun is on the 11 o'clock location as the shadow of the housing in the foreground indicates. Hmm... hopefully something that willl be corrected in the future.

Great update anyways.

I could also say the sunlight is global and not related to camera position. Shadows are global to the environment and not the camera.

So... Sun is in 11 O Clock Relative to Camera and House in Foreground.

However the Mountains are in the background and the sun is to the back left if you go by position relative to the user, so the light's origin is behind the mountains to the left, meaning the front/right of the mountains would be self shadowed :music_whistling:.

But yeah, we could just say it was snow too.

So, EDGE will be with us in update 1.3.0. Unless something happens....

Version 1.2.9. hed better be good.

How far will Nevada be after?

The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance.

Fingers crossed that 1.2.9 is flanker AFm... but I wouldmt hold my breath. Traditionally ED take their own sweet time. Belsimtek has a much faster turnaround time.

I would argue that the Su-27 PFM is more challenging and infomation probably harder to come by... But yes, by taking their own sweet time I suppose you mean do it to the best possible standards that they can... I am sure yours just sounded ruder, and wasnt meant to be....

Regardless... all off topic....

Wait, I somehow missed that announcement. Source? Because DO WANT. :D

Totally...didnt mean to be rude...although in a re-read it did seem a bit douchey.. :p... but yes... it was more meant as an observation. Flanker AFM with fuselage aerodynamics etc may take more time to tweak and model..as it is so integral to the performance of the aircraft. And no question about it...ED do a terrific job. But yes... it does seem that Belsimtek division is better at churning out modules faster... Huey, Mi8, f-15. Yes...they do have assistance from ED...and ED have their own priority list...EDGE...and probably even the F-18.

Either way, the speculation was if 1.3.0 is EDGE...it makes me hopeful that 1.2.9 will be the AFM.

But back to topic... can any of the testers pls give us some info about frame rate? I know performance improvement was mentioned in wags post, but how is performance in explosions, shooting a rocket barrage into the ground etc?

ALso.... for the new EDGE era of terrain...does ED have to make damage models for all ground objects individually? broken trees ? perhaps..naplam to burn forests clear path for ground equipment? do buildings break apart with fracture damage?

Will ED ever consider to use middleware like havok?

Nothin has been stated yet, performance wont be known till its fully implemented and tuned. No idea on model changes and such, we do know they wish to re-work damage modeling at some point, but I dont know if that is related to EDGE at all or if it will come after, if I had to guess I would say after.

Very unlikely.

Thats a shame... :noexpression: :(

imagine destroying the dam in the black sea map... blowing that up leading to flooding in the lowland areas. :p . More procedural damage to bridges.

Environmental destruction would be nice, but I'd rather they focus on the bug squashing and improving the scenery in DCSWorld and ground textures for CA.
