So consumer version is out whenever Samsung does second release cycle....sometime end of the year.

yes from what he said the next big release is the gear vr tied in with samsung release dates, and then hinted at developers who are making mobile apps it would be worth targeting pc as well, but said he wouldn't be the one to give us release dates for cv1

So my understanding is this is not about Oculus VR CV1, but about mobile version that is tide in with Samsung GearVR..... therefore sometime end of year Samsung + Oculus will release product that is alike GearVR.

Nothing from Oculus about CV1 at GDC so far. Very disappointing but not surprising. They have obviously decided mobile is their priority for now. With mass consumer GearVR planned for October how long will they hold back CV1?

Lighthouse from Valve looks really good though. It's a cheap free to implement tracking solution. We could have our hands tracked in the cockpit or alternatively physical switches visible in VR for those who prefer cockpit building.

It also seems the HTC headset could be the first of many SteamVR headsets all sharing the same Valve developed technology. I hope LG take up the VR torch and we see Samsung v LG competing on the screen resolution front. Exciting times.

I wonder if Wags is just sticking to Oculus Rift for Dcs or maybe get one of the valve/htc kits and work on it for dcs 2.0......

a few years back I bought a dk1 for a guy to try and create a Rift plugin for x-plane. If it came to it I'm sure as a community we could make sure wags got a Valve dev kit for DCS :)

I think ED can afford to purchase one if they deem it necessary.

All my hype has moved over to the HTC-Valve Vive. It seems to be an amazing piece of kit.

Competition is good!

Yes, I feel the same way. From listening to the keynote it seems Oculus is investing heavily into mobile to speed up the adoption of VR. They see at as a way to get VR into the hands of millions of users as opposed to a thousands of (niche-) PC gamers.

They (Oculus) will release a 'PC-' version but there's no telling when. If there's nothing concrete regarding a release date towards the end of the year I'm going for the Vive...

"It's not the years, honey. It's the mileage..."

Interesting read indeed. I'm glad to see competition enter the market. We should all benefit in the long run. Short term, I'm concerned that ED will only support a single platform and no matter HOW good the competition is, we are stuck with whomever they decide to support.

By all accounts, that's clearly going to be Occulus right now. I'm curious why we haven't really heard much about the CV release yet. Unless I simply missed it.

HTC / Valve Vive claims there is no motion sickness. If that is true, it's going to be the one to get.

Hmmmm... that's interesting... as someone that can get sick easily I may just have to keep an eye out.

A question to those who already run DCS with Occulus:

The specifications of Occulus say at least 75 fps are needed for a good experience. Do you run DCS with min 75 fps?

Sli 980 can't do it. Not the cards fault it's the engines fault. Dcs would be awesome with the rift if the performance was their. It's one of those wait and see how dcs 2.0 is. As for now you have to set all the major stuff to low to get and maintain 75 frames. At least that's the case with me. Bit of a bummer

50 to60 frames is manageable in the rift in dcs but go lower and you start getting sick

Thanks for the info. Let´s see what comes, but 75 fps for DCS in a crowded environment is a high goal.

If ED doesn't embrace VR to the maximum extent possible, they will miss the boat and have egg on their face.

I agree totally as this sim is the perfect showcase for Vr. Heck I be happy with the Dk2 if the performance was their.

Anyone else noticed the pilot body is rendered in the Huey on the EDGE video from Wags? This isn't available in the current Huey model. I'm hoping this is a sign of things to come. Has to have been done for VR. Thats what I'm hoping at least ha. I have high hopes for EDGE and the rift.

Uh the pilot body currently works for huey. Looks awesome in vr, same with ka50 and mi8. Mi8 is epic you really see how big that pit is

They really need to add one into the a10c

I knew it was in the mi8 and Ka50 but last time I checked it wasn't in the huey. Thanks for the heads up.

JHMCS for Oculus Rift DK2

Hello pilots,

this video shows my first Beta version "Joint Helmet Mounted Cueing System" for DCS and Oculus Rift DK2.

This software displays real time flight informations (HUD) directly in your Rift.

Normally it is really hard to see the DCS HUD in Oculus Rift, this is why i'm developing the "JHMCS" for DCS.

Now it is possible to read the most importend values while flying with the rift.

It would also work without a rift.

What do you guys think about?

Sorry for the bad FPS, this is during video recording. The "JHMCS" does not decrease the frame rate.
