We had that map on Lock On 2.0, is not possible to merge that part with FC3 map?

I would expect that would need changes to work with current/future engine at which point it might be easier to create from scratch..?

Although that depends much on what kind of data/tools ED has for such tasks..

Who knows? (I certainly don't :)

Wondering If is there any chance to have Crimea populated again, both with airfields and buildings/roads? Or even a mod that add the airfields and buildings back? Think it will add a lot to have proper bases for Ukrainian birds.

Thanks.

From what I understood, the Crimea was dropped, because of limitations in the current engine. It needs to handle the complete map. As I understood, this is one of the advantages EDGE will provide, you can dynamically load "parts" of the map when required. Not 100% sure about that, but I remember reading something in that direction a few weeks ago.

I would not expect ED to add new features and updates to the old map, with EDGE getting closer to release. I think it is better to put any free developer hour from the team to EDGE and hopefully additional new maps in the near future...

May be in a while somebody takes the time to "update" Crimea, south russian black sea coast and Georgia with EDGE ? :music_whistling:

I think this was due to the old limitations which are not present anymore with the migration to the 64-bit application. The new DCS Georgia map started with a much smaller populated size than it is today so I'm convinced it can be further expanded.

And given how long is the Nevada map development ongoing, we might be stuck with this map for some time so further expansions into e.g. Crimea might be very welcome, IMHO.

Seeing how the situation is developing there, I hope those guys make a extra effort and offer a map with populated Crimea on it. Put it at cheap price and will sell as hot cakes!!

I don't understand anything in russian except Davai Davai!

Any new area would sell like hot cakes. After so many years of flying the same map, you get bored. Hopefully one day we'll have the whole earth to fly.

why would you want to sell a map? we already have to pay for each aircraft, so why pay more for a new map?

DCS: F-4E really needs to be a thing!!!!!!

I hope you are kidding?

What do you mean? Should be a simple matter of taking a few pics and importing them into the new "engine" and voila' a new map... 20 minutes work to model the entire earth.. MAX!

Right? :megalol:

mate, you need to add one of these to your posts --> :D or  or :music_whistling: or :P

DCS Monorail. You know you want it!

We even hope to look into a train simulation component in the future!

I don't really care what geographic region we get, it just needs to be considerably bigger (3-4 times bigger )than what we have now. Fingers crossed EDGE will allow such things. Also a spherical "world" that allows for correct coordinate grids and proper curvature of the earth etc is much needed.

We need a theater that a fighter/attack aircraft can't fly across on internal fuel without needing tanker support.

In an ideal world we'd have a full spherical representation of entire earth, with areas that aren't yet modeled just being flat like the "off map" area are in the current theater, which would allow ED and 3rd parties to add areas of terrain, of any size, bit by bit.

It isn't in the Luckybob/Sithspawn infopost, but I think this is what you are looking for.

Now that we are getting very close to integrating EDGE into DCS, I can share a few more details.

1- DirectX 11 / DirectX 11 Windows 8 based.

2- Can support up to four GPU (either SLI or CF).

3- Uses clip maps.

4- Two cloud layers can be created with options for none, cumulous, cumulous nimbus, and stratus.

5- Terrain shadow projection is supported.

6- World can be as large as the designer wishes them to be, it is more of a question of development time / map detail.

7- Option to project map on globe surface.

Specifically points 3, 6, and 7.

Now we just need the EDGE SDK to be released and an open source community globe project to get started.

I was thinking DCS: Space Mountain. It would be so much easier to make than monorail!

Is really that hard to add the buildings and airbases back to Crimea?

Yes, because they need to drop other parts of the "current world" for that. So it is Eastern Georgia OR Crimean peninsula, but not both!

Guess they are running into the limits of objects to handle with the old engine.
