Taproot Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 I have been thinking about this fratricide thing for many weeks now, and it annoys me more and more. I fail completely at seeing why this should be implemented in the game. Since logbook by default only works in singleplayer fratricide can not be used to make people "think twice" before gunning down an ally in multiplayer. The fratricide feature punishes you for mistakes you do. F ex crashing with the tanker. Hey, you didn't meen to! It is my experience that this feature punishes you 10/10 times (in my case) for mistakes done my either me or some stupid AI. 100% of the time I get blamed for it. It also seems bugged in other ways to. I have ebs MP-logbook (ty Ebs). Last night I played on a server for 3 hours yesterday. I only killed enemies. I did not crash and kill any allies. I did crash a guy on the taxiway, and I did get crashed on from behind by a fellow player. In both cases we repaired. I had joy joy feelings sense I did many air refulings and I really do like getting those logged. So, the session was over. I exited the MP event and went to DCS homescreen. And yes... You guessed it... There it was... That utterly stupid... You have committed fratricide! And I lost all my points.. (so reverted the logbook.lua to the previous version of the file, still lost many points and many air refulings..) What do you think about this fratricide feature? Imo it could work if the Court-martial was any good. But he ain't! He is like Judge Dredd on every drug that exists! [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

NoCarrier Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 In my experience, DCS is pretty mild on the whole fratricide thing, only dinging you for it when you've truly screwed a buddy. I remember that in Falcon you could be court-martialed for running over runway signage. Even when you took a SAM up the tailpipe while still bringing in the jet back against all odds, veering off the runway because it took full left aileron so as not to roll inverted 200 feet over the runway and die a horribly fiery death. Yes, I'm still bitter.
JHzlwd Posted April 13, 2013 Posted April 13, 2013 It is certainly a downer to be accused of fratricide but reality is reality. Years ago I believe it was "Strike Commander" where they would haul you off to the courts martial and I *really* hated that. In DCS all they do is take away your medals. I find the possibility of being demoted has made me more careful which is probably a good thing. HiJack Posted April 13, 2013 Posted April 13, 2013 why do you even care about your single player rating? o.O Because it's there. What do you use it for?
aceviper Posted April 13, 2013 Posted April 13, 2013 Recently leading a flight of 4 Su33 landing on the Kunetsov,I trapped first folded wings and parked in the first slot only to see my wingman trap and proceed to try and park right on top of me...it was comical. He went on fire and sank into the deck.Ending the mission the dreaded fratricide came up....alt tabbed out...ended the processes and cleared out the temp folder and voila fratricide gone.
pii Posted April 14, 2013 Posted April 14, 2013 Dont commit fratricide then. Easier said than done. I had a wingman take off behind me and ran right up my tail pipe and blew us both to pieces. Guess who committed fratricide? Yeah me  I guess I should have had my flashers on so the dumdass knew I wasn't moving. Basically anytime you are involved n killing a freindly even if its not your fault you get the blame. :pilotfly::joystick:
gavagai Posted April 14, 2013 Posted April 14, 2013 I got the fratricide smackdown while merely testing a mission I'm working on. jarrhead Posted December 29, 2013 Posted December 29, 2013 I got that notice for a bug today. I dropped two bombs out of my P-51D and committed fratricide on one of my bombs.. SERIOUS?
OttoPus Posted December 29, 2013 Posted December 29, 2013 Oh lol it happens all the times in Georgian Oil War campaign: simply accomplish your 2 hours sortie killing all the enemy tanks, land in Batumi, park at the parking spot, wait a minute, then another aicraft spawns right where you are. Obviously the two ac get in pieces. Then you committed fratricide, not the AI-spawning thing. YOU. lol :D
Jinja Posted December 29, 2013 Posted December 29, 2013 I think these are good and valid points, there aren't many benefits to the system... Possibly fratricide should only be dished out if guns/missiles were used. i7@3.5Ghz, ATI 5870, 16GB RAM, win7 64bit, TH2GO, Track-IR, 4screen pit, TM WArthog HOTAS
Evil.Bonsai Posted December 29, 2013 Posted December 29, 2013 I must be playing wrong. I've only committed fratricide maybe 3 times in the three years or so I've been playing. 1. Stay away from any AI planes, friend or foe. They will kill you. 2. Never land at a base you didn't take off from and park on the ramp. It could be a spawn point for AI 3. Never land at your own base and park on ramp. Unless you know very specifically which parking spot you spawned at. Even then, I wouldn't risk it. Just land, pull over to a taxi way, hit esc and quit.

blackbelter Posted December 29, 2013 Posted December 29, 2013 (edited) I just committed fratricide... on purpose... :joystick: I was practising AAR in Su-33 (second time practising this for me, with a history of 100% failure, fyi). The tanker in front of me was changing altitude every few minutes, right before I can line up for the final approach. After half an hour of trying and failure, I was too annoyed to let this tanker fly around before me, so I gunned it down... without knowing the consequences... Then I found that, this mission, which I downloaded here in this forum, was designed such that the tanker changes its altitude from 7000m to 4000m over a distance of about 300km ... which explained everything. In the end I didn't success in AAR today. But after the modifying the mission, I got everything under control, and was very close to a success... but it's already close to midnight. Happy enough for me. Will try again tomorrow.:D Cya Edited December 29, 2013 by blackbelter
Scrim Posted December 30, 2013 Posted December 30, 2013 Accidentally flew into one of my bombs shortly after dropping it, got fratricide. Laughed, because, who gives a hoot?
Davis0079 Posted December 30, 2013 Posted December 30, 2013 I commit fratricide on myself when ppl aren't looking....its a cry for attention....thats why i do it when they aren't looking...oh...and I like to wear mascara cuz it makes me look cool when I cry.... It only takes two things to fly, Airspeed and Money.
Aratahu Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 (edited) I just committed fratricide. By active pausing my freshly updated 1.27 it straight after creating an instant mission, and whilst looking up the button layout of my Warthog HOTAS (working on figuring out SPI etc) on my laptop. I look up, and see my wingman flying straight into me. Boom. Then the message. Harsh. I guess I'll just delete my profile and start afresh.. Edited January 26, 2014 by Aratahu HTOAS -> HOTAS
Serp Supreme Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 Oh yes, I'm sure that the vast majority of us who have tried AAR have committed fratricide :D This post is protected by a pilot who has a serious lack of negotiating skills, but is absolute hell in a dogfight. rud Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 If you commit fratricide don't you just abandon the points for the mission where you had friendly fire? I've never noticed "losing" anything I did last week because of friendly fire I did today, then again I don't pay attention to the logbook very closely.
