DCS: F-15C Eagle

We are considering the possibility of creating a complete avionics model with clickable cockpit and accurate systems modeling. This would be a major development however, so a final decision has not yet been made.

 

I can't pilot the real F-15C, and I'm guessing ED (The Great) is my only chance to feel the eagle :)

So, I'd like to have everything in "DCS: A-10C Warthog" level, or even more (IFF, Cockpit Damage Model, etc...)!

 

I believe that by utilizing modern technologies like 64 bit, Multi CPU - GPU, Hardware Accelerated Physics, and etc..., everything can be done!

Just don't forget what it could be found in typical recent PCs, up to 8 core 64 bit CPU, GeForce 680 with PhysX acceleration.

 

About 26 GB map size of Nevada, the Cloud Computing, and Map Tile Service would be the solution.

We just need to download a mid resolution version, and over time, and by going over places with different altitude, the map with different resolution would be automatically downloaded!

 

I hope they don't sacrifice the capabilities of new technologies to keep backward compatibility!

I'd vote for more DCS Anything (as long as it is kept to the existing DCS standard. Just can't go back to the Flaming Cliffs level anymore).

 

However, priority (which DCS item should come next) is a completely different question.

I think everyone would want a DCS:F15, it's just at what expense that's the problem. If its delays f-18 or a new map, then no for me.

A friend of mine told me we'd get the AFM for FC3 aswell. I highly doubt that.. can anyone confirm?

I'm all for it. Would be a fantasic plane to have in DCS fidelity while waiting for the F-18c. It will help me bridge the gap. Even if it delay's the F-18c for a bit. We have to wait for that one for a long time anyway.

Can anyone link to the thread where Wags posted this bit of news? Im anxious to fly the Eagle ASAP, so Im waiting for the AFM and the stand alone module (dont want to purchase FC3). Im all for a DCS level F15 module, but will this mean we wont be getting the FC3 level module seperately?

Definitely after the F-18, and what is the intent of this poll? Make the F-15 a priority before everything else? If so, then I´d say no. There are so many other important things to be realised and fixed before in DCS. I´m very much pro new DCS-level modules, but in this context it doesn´t make too much sense to me to add another huge project. The FC3 F-15 AFM already contributes to DCS with a new "supersonic AFM" and the rest may come later, just please not at the cost of current developments.

What announcement please?

It is well hidden in the FC3 announcement thread, but I think it has been moved or deleted by now. Link does no longer work, but he stated in his post that he was making this announcement only as a placeholder for BST because their site was down. Basically: BST developed AFM for FC3 F-15 over the last 8 months, Yoyo is doing the Su-27 AFM (no specifics though) and release is probably (!) going to be at the end of November. Oh, and everything is subject to change... ;) Correct me if I´m wrong.

+1 on that. Making the stuff we have and already worked in earlier versions work again should be number one, and then F/A-18C as the next thing.

I'd rather have DCS F/A-18C sooner from ED. Belsimtek have been working on the AFM F-15C for 8 months which has delayed them in finishing the Huey. Any extra work for Belsimtek (should BST be given the DCS F-15C task) will surely delay the F-86 & Cobra as well.

DCS: F-15C Eagle. Advanced flight model development overview

 

Dynamics modeling experts at BelSimTek are completing work on advanced flight and engine models of the F-15C Eagle for the upcoming module for DCS World.

 

The current model featured in DCS was originally developed over a decade ago and represents an earlier generation of technological potential and resulting model accuracy and performance. Despite exhibiting generally correct aerodynamic properties under normal flight conditions, by today’s standards the model falls short of increased user expectations, computing power, and experience gained by the developers over time. In an effort to meet these demands, we have begun to develop new flight and related component models as upgrades to some of the existing DCS aircraft. As the primary U.S. jet fighter in DCS and indeed one of the premier fighters of the world in reality, the F-15C Eagle will be the first DCS aircraft to receive this upgrade.

 

The flight model has been through over eight months of development and is now undergoing initial external (closed beta) testing. The complete aerodynamics model accounts for the entire spectrum of mass, force, and moment interactions of the aircraft as a physical object subjected to airflow. Unlike the mathematical approach of the previous model, which regarded the aircraft as a single point of focus, the new flight model consists of individual aircraft elements carefully tuned to reflect their unique aerodynamic characteristics and joined together to determine the sum vector of the airframe’s momentum. Such an approach makes it possible to accurately recreate the specific performance of the F-15C Eagle airframe throughout the entire flight envelope, including critical regimes like high angles of attack, stalls, spins, as well as specific flight conditions such as ground effect. Additionally, a new engine model is also created on par with the flight model to provide more realistic and accurate performance, for example featuring effects like negative G loading. The flight control system is modeled realistically, for example including input authority coefficients dependent on speed and altitude scheduling, the Aileron/Rudder Interconnect (ARI), Control Augmentation System (CAS), as well as Attitude and Altitude autopilot modes.

The new model significantly improves the entire flight control experience making special flight conditions like air to air refueling, landing, and edge of the envelope flying far more dynamic, exciting, and possibly even more challenging. Even straight and level flight loses the old feeling of flying on rails.
