  1. This is one of those subjects that noone will ever be able to read enough about, because there'll always be that one little bit of information that might save your bacon when things get messy in the mud. Theres countless documents and threads across the internet with regards to aircraft operation procedures and instruments, but very little to cover using it for its intent, a mean mother!@£$%^ hog with a mean mother!@£$%^& snout! So I'd like to use this thread as a repository for all the different resources you've read throughout your time as a groundpounder (simming or in RL!), that have helped you out on the battlefield. I know I've spent too many hours sifting the useful from the useless, and maybe someone like me will benefit from a thread like this, giving us all one good place to come and brush up on our skills. I'll list the ones that I know to start with, and update with any that you guys post! Before anyone starts ranting that any of these are outdated or what have you, remember, while the whole article may not be relevant, there will always be some useful information that remains pertinent to any aircraft, be it chucking rocks out of a paper biplane or firing a laser from the deathstar! With that out of the way, here we go! -A-10A/C Combat Tactics- Hog Basics: RAF Bentwaters Tactics Guide - 1982 - Andy Bush - A great guide which highlights many useful topics, such as formations, navigation and attack strategies. Mavericks, Rockets, and the Gun - Air To Mud Shooting In The Hog - Andy Bush - Some of these tactics will change with the new C Hog, but a lot of the skills will remain, such as ingress and spotting tactics. CCIP Bombing in the A-10A - Andy Bush - Again, written for LOMAC but there is some interesting reading that might be of some use to us! Combat Mission Planning Considerations, Part One - Initial Planning Combat Mission Planning Considerations, Part Two - Ingress, Attack, and Egress - Andy Bush - Fantastic in depth look at mission planning. Air To Ground Basics - Bombing Air To Ground Basics - Bombing, Part Two Air To Ground Basics, Part Three - Rockets and Guns - Andy Bush - Great 3 part introduction to basic ground pounding theory and practice. Flankertraining Rich 'Ironhand' Sorochak's fabled website, covering a great deal of subjects for LOMAC and general theory alike. Fixed Wing CAS Tactics - Interesting and very in depth overview of CAS operations and procedures. Close Air Support - Fas.org document outlining CAS in great depth.

  2. I've just uploaded a new A-10C profile to the SCS site: http://www.scsimulations.com/forums/showthread.php?942-DCS-A-10C-Profile-with-Interactive-Checklists&p=5740#post5740 This profile is based on Gadroc's excellent A-10C profile, but adapted to allow switching on a single monitor (I only have 2 monitors, not 3 or 4!). Whilst creating the profile I realised I could also add check-lists, so this profile also includes 6 interactive check-list panels that (where possible/appropriate) show your progress based on the actual state of the aircraft. The check-lists cover: - aircraft start-up/taxi/take-off - AA refuelling - JTAC flow - Caution Info (not really a check-list - just info on what the caution lights mean) - Approach/Landing - Taxi/Shutdown The main panel includes 6 switch-able sub-panels covering: - Flight instruments - Environment/Electrical/SAS - Fuel/LASTE/Aux - Comms - CDU - Armament & Countermeasures The CDU panel also includes an information panel giving hints about the various CDU functions (I still find the damn thing so complicated that I need some help when using it!). To the lower left of the main panel (on Monitor 2) is a control panel with buttons that allow panel switching and display of the check-lists. The check-lists are toggle buttons, so you just press the same button again to remove them. There's also a caution panel pop-up linked to the unused TM Warthog pinky lever on the stick. If you have a different stick you'll need to remap that. I've done my best to debug the profile but producing the check-lists was a lot of work so it hasn't had extensive testing (but I was keen to post it rather than wait) - if you find problems please post back to the SCS thread (link at the top) and I'll do my best to fix them. The check-lists aren't perfect yet (either in content or function) - but they're better than nothing. The zip file also includes the A-10C display profile used to get the MFCDs to appear correctly in the main panel. My monitors are both 1280x1024, so the display profile is 2560x1024. Obviously you'll need to adapt if you have different resolutions. Final note: I don't have a touch-screen display so these are designed more for use with a mouse (i.e. control size may be too small for touch screens in some cases). EDIT 14.02.2010: Added a zip containing JPEGs of just the checklist panels for printing if you don't have Helios. This includes a new Stores panel added in V1.1 of the profile. 3. The Lone Wolf Coalition <LWC> is actively looking for private pilots who are interested in joining us for the upcoming SATAC event. To be honest, we want to participate to have fun but also to get a good result. Our enlistment conditions : - Not belonging to any virtual squadron (lone wolf). - Stable internet connection and FC2 installation. - No aircraft restriction (for the MiG-29S drivers, ability to switch to the Su-27 if needed). - Establishing a minimum air-to-air ratio of 5 with at least 15 air to air kills on the 51st server during the 1st selection phase which is ongoing until the 15th of March 2011. The 3rd and 4th March weeks will be dedicated to 6vs6 fighter sweeps training sorties before the official kick off scheduled on early April 2011 ( minimum kills have been lowered to 15 instead of 20, this is a condition for a Direct Qualification, potential pilots who are close to achieve it are listed below, please do not hesitate to PM me if you see your name on the list and are interested in joining us.) Any queries, please let me know asap. Thank you. Current team members: - Sana..Kan (MiG-29S/Su-27) - FLANKERATOR (Su-27/ MiG-29S) Potential team members: Following private pilots, please, send me a PM if interested in flying the SATAC event with <LWC>: - Zart Arn (MiG-29S/Su-27) - xDD (F-15C) - RW (MiG29S/Su-27) - Bobby (MiG29S/Su-27) - Telemetry (F-15C)

  4. Yes burners are aligned and if they are a bit off its so minor that you might not notice the gap. I'm free for a while so planing for Su-30 and 34 but nothing is sure. @aap-flanker: The arguments are not modeled correctly in the game. This is how canards work, During take off they work against the flow to provide extra lift but at high speeds they work in-line with flow to reduce drag. Some more SS's:

  6. Here ya go Sarge...figured it out! PIA LOL!!!! If you change these lines in your :\......DCS A-10C Beta\FUI\Resources\Radio folder and open up your "Menu.res" file with notepad, and change the following. It will relocate the Radio Com text to the left side of the screen. Changes in RED: \dialog \begin \tag{-1} \coord{0, 10, 1024, 300} \color{50, 50, 50, 50} \musthavecursor{0} \drawitself{0} \acceptmouse{0} (Change to 1 for mouse clickable menu) \fixedposition{0} \layer{1000} \bordercolor{255, 255, 255, 255} \hasborder{0} \end \static \begin \tag{2} \coord{40, 25, 1024, 40} (from 802 to 40...the header line. e.g. (1. UHF Main) I set this lower so if the menu list is 40 I like it set this to 35 to 38. \color{200, 200, 200, 50} \drawitself{0} \font(1) \fontcolor{255, 255, 255, 255} (Font Color) \alignmentleft (Text Alignment) \caption{} \end \multicolumnlistbox \begin \tag{3} \coord{40, 50, 1024, 300} (from 800 to 40 ....this is the menu list). \defaultitem{Radio/command_list_box_item.res} \columnswidth{224} \marker1{Radio/command_list_marker.res} \bordercolor{255, 255, 255, 255} \visiblescrollbar{0} \hasborder{0} \readonly{0} \end The lower the number in the columnlist box the farther left you go. Raise the number to go right. 40 seems about right. You may want to go 30 or maybe 45 the formula for the X/Y Axis or position appears to be as follows: \coord{40, 50, 1024, 300} Red # = equates Lower goes left, higher goes right. Blue # = Equates to up and down. To the top go lower the number to go down go higher the number. Like I said you may want to adjust this to your liking. You can do the same with the dialog box in the dialog.res file. This is the file that answers you back. JTAC, Wingy, ATC....etc Have fun!

  9. Hi guys: This is a retexture of the F15 pit for the F18 flyable mod. Any comments would be appreciated at this time as to what you might like done to the front panel. Need good side down panels so right now they are the F15. Appreciate comments and suggestions. Waiting for ED before tackling 3D.

  10. After 30 some hours into this sim I've finally, FINALLY!, made my first "battle tank" kill. LOL Wow! Hours and hours of frustration and I thought I suck. :D I don't know how the damage is modeled for land vehicles but I must have hit it right on the sweet spot because I gave it a one second burst and it caught on fire. The sad thing is that is this what it takes to make a grown man happy? :D

  14. I'm using the power settings on the shift+2 popup panel. I takeoff with my water temp at about 100 degrees. Quick question though, if you bring your power back to idle in flight, is that bad for your engine? I know it's bad on the ground, but my engine seems to run poorly when I do it in flight too.

  19. An old thread but it seemed suitable  This is to share some material on the Thrustmaster Cougar MFD button panel setup I did. Just in case someone finds it useful. The Cougar MFD panels are mounted on either 24" main screen (1920x1200) corners or on a separate 15" screen (1024x768, analog vga) using small velcro strips. For Black Shark use, I set image on them with 4:3 and 3:4 ratio and the sides are used for labeling the buttons. I attached a powerpoint file (black&white) which can be printed and cut with scissors to fit in the Cougar MFDs. Either print on paper and set between the plastics, or print on a transparent film... Just modify it to your key assignments and fine-tune according to your viewing angle/perspective. When panels are attached on the monitor, just the 3:4 screen area is seen between the button labels - see the picture. Works well.:prop: Below are the monitor setup files (config\monitorsetup). 24" screen: 24" + 15" screen (horizontal spanning for fullscreen and good FPS on windows XP; with 1920x1200 scrolling area and 1024x768 viewable area on the 15"):

  24. Mission and rulebook updated slightly. Section 1.3.3 and 1.3.5 :) @wangfei: The rule is there to help SARH platforms (Su-27) against ARH ones. Not that it's a major restriction anyway, F-15s can still load up 6 x 120C and MiGs can load up 4 x R-77 :) Cheers

  25. I am afraid you lost me somewhere in that last line :D . Yes but if the entries in sensors.lua have no impact on player control, it will be quite difficult to determine the effect of altered values - especially very subtle changes like you suggest. I am also a little sceptical about the extend to which the game actually uses the sensors.lua. I modded the MiG-29K into the game, assigned ordinance capabilities(including radar guided armament) and tested whether the AI controlled aircraft could deploy them - worked fine. Now if you look in the MiG-29K.lua file, you can see that under "radar" it is assigned an entry called "N010 Zhuk-ME", but then if you look in the sensors.lua there is no such entry at all. Just for the fun of it, I added the entry(pretty much copy/pasting the APG-73 entry since it should be very similar) using the name specified in the MiG-29K.lua - I haven't had time to test whether it actually makes any difference, but at least the game didn't crash :) .

Но эти файлы легко будет найти по датам. Скорее всего что-то вроде gdoptions*.lua Добавлено. Direct ни при чем.

  28. What kind of range are we talking here GG? Around 25km? Is this still effective if the F-15 goes cold and extends at full power after launch? Or is this negated by the F-pole? Flying last night on 51st server (great server guys!) we had much more success with better use of vertical separation. IT definitely seems to be making the simultaneous engagement harder for the F-15s.

  30. Well, "we hope to be able to" means virtually nothing, as if it wasn't there for me. As to the BS, yes I think it was abandoned, as it needs a solid patch to fix outstanding issues. Crashes when playing tracks, training missions unavailable (yes there's a quick fix but it's not a proper fix from ED), memory leaks, gfx corruptions, and more. There's no indication that ED is working on a patch for BS, so as long as it's not patched, it's abandoned to me. I just bought A-10 anyway though. Got disappointed with menu still not being part of the game. Everything else looks good for now though.

  32. Anyone just about ANYONE can easily spot the difference between 30fps or 60 fps, 100fps. I personally have never and would NEVER play anything with less than 50ish fps and thats only if its a single player type game. Any kind of FPS game that involves aiming I would rather play tic tac toe with pen/paper that try to sludge through 30fps.. I could be tested 1000 times in a row, and guess each time within 2 seconds what my FPS is in any given game. Why the hell does someone always have to start the 'human eye can only see 30fps' crap all the time. Get some glasses,a clue, do some testing yourself and stfu. Thanks :)

  38. The cause and solution to this problem (which I posted 3 days ago) are so obvious it embarrasses me to write this but as I am sure from other messages here and elsewhere that others have been afflicted in the same way, here goes: (1) It is vital to keep in mind there are always TWO profiles active ... one for the keyboard and one for the stick. (2) Before loading a profile you must highlight either the KB column or the stick column (OPTIONS/CONTROLS) and then load an appropriate profile. (3) It is all too easy to highlight the wrong column ... the simulation profiler will happily load a stick profile into the keyboard or vice versa. If you are in a hurry and don't check you might then end up with a bogus KB profile *in which PAUSE/UNPAUSE has been cleared* and therefore inoperative. It's a small design weakness in the sim that it doesn't determine which is which. (4) So, be careful. If you are tweaking profiles a lot it's easy to get caught. I now make a habit when starting up the sim to take a quick look in CONTROLS and ensure everything is OK. If you messed up, just reload your KB profile, then highlight stick column and reload that. It's a good idea to keep backups. I have inadvertently saved a stick profile under same name as KB profile and you then have to work back from the KB defaults which can be tedious if you did a lot of customization. Best wishes,

  41. Krebs20, unless you need Hyper-Threading for something (DCS won't use it), save yourself a hundred bucks and go with the 2500K. I've got mine running at 4.8 GHz on air cooling and could easily push it to 5.0. The few hundred extra MHz you might get with a 2600K won't make any difference in DCS -- see my post here to see how much O/C affects framerate.

  46. I have no idea what the first post is about, but the "mod" on the youtube video is made by me. It is a little project I have been working on a bit for a while now (rendering a custom cockpit). Most of the actual hornet cockpit functionality is missing, wrong or incomplete including most of the mfd pages, almost all of the switches/knobs do nothing, radar, rwr, navigation etc. do not work and so on. The cockpit is rendered and handled using a D3D hook, basically the original cockpit is hidden and another model is drawn instead. All the switch actions and mfd/hud rendering is done in the lua exports script. It doesn't use anything from Black Shark so that is why the behaviour probably is a bit different in many places. The base cockpit model is made by another guy, it is intended for ArmA 2 which is why the detail level isn't on the typical flight sim level (also my renderer doesn't at least yet handle normal- or specular maps and the FC2 lighting is not very suitable for it), though I have added some more detail in the side panels and some other switches/buttons. I dont know if it ever will be in any kind of "complete" state, it depends on how much free time I have and how long I have interest to keep working on it. What is possible is also severely limited by what is offered by the exports interface so many systems are very difficult to get to function at all.
