Me too...a simulated launch wouldn't be hard to do IMO with a crew chief on a headset/comm cord. No parking brake, I understand some things we can't do in the sim that we do real world everyday but parking brakes, that's a big negative to me. Chocks could easly have a trigger to be removed (say when you request clearance to taxi to the active) or installed (when you request rearm, refuel, or ground power). But, I'm not a programmer so I don't know how much code that would require but it would add to the realism of the game. Launch varies slightly from unit to unit but at Moody we launch with one crew chief (same with recovery) and we are on the headset until the pilot is ready to taxi. Most go like this: Pilot: "Chief, you can pull cholks." I (crew chiefs) put the ladder up and close the door (F69) then take out the chalks on the (pilots) right tire first then the (pilots) left, walk to the comm cord panel (F71) tell the pilot to have a safe flight and I'll see him/her when they get back, disconnect the comm cord and close F71. I then take my positiong in the front of the ACFT (side varies on the direction they will be turning when taxing out of the spot) and wait for him/her to give the signal to run up the engines. We stand at attention while giving the Stop/hold brakes marshalling signal with our arms. The pilot will then give us the signal they are ready to taxi and we give them the cholks out then the run up signal followed by the taxi foward signal: Most times we don't need to direct them to turn left or right but if we do its: Once we don't need to marshal them anymore we "wave them off" (direction depends on side you are marshalling from) followed by a salute3 points

I will give it my best shot. JTAC will give you a UTM or Lat/Long coordinate during the 9 line, and if you have your SADL net settings correct, you will also get a data linked target identifier in your TAD (a red triangle). The following is based on JTAC giving you a UTM coordinate. Use a mission data card to get all the info on the UTM coordinate and the specific weapon, direction of attack, direction of egress and weapon requested. To make the UTM coordinate provided by JTAC into a waypoint do the following: Find a safe area to do a wide orbit. Set your autopilot to ALT and then make a left or right banking level turn and hold it. Then engage the autopilot and ensure it is holding the turn and you have no elevation conflicts around you. The UTM coordinates will be in the form of 2 letters and 6 numbers. Make sure your STEER PT switch on your AAP Panel is set to FLT PLAN. Set your right MFCD to the CDU repeater function. *NOTE: If your CDU is not on the WAYPOINT PAGE, then hit the WP key on the CDU, or FUNC 3 on the UFC. This will bring up the page where you can choose to select WAYPOINT by hitting OSB 7. You should now be on the WAYPOINT PAGE and ready to continue. Hit OSB 10 to switch from the default L/L (Lat/Long) to UTM. Hit OSB 9 to select the number presented next to the question mark as your new target waypoint. Using the CDU or the UFC, enter the 2 letters, and 6 numbers without spaces in the scratchpad. Hit OSB 16 to enter the UTM coordinate in to the computer. Verify the number entered is correct. Using the CDU or UFC keypad give your new waypoint a unique name eg: TGT A and hit OSB 7 to change the name. Now turn your STEER PT dial on the AAP from FLT PLAN to MISSION. Use the UFC STEER rocker or with the HUD as SOI, DMS UP to cycle thru the waypoints until you see the unique name you created for this target. Find your target waypoint symbol on the TAD and then use the steering cue's on the HUD to prosecute your attack. EDIT #1: I added the item in italics for anyone who has moved off the Waypoint Page in the CDU, and needs to know how to get back. EDIT #2: I created a Powerpoint Presentation outlining the steps covered in the post above, and added a few explanatory pictures. The UTM Data Entry Tutorial is provided in PDF format as an attachment below for you all to use. JTAC 9 LINE UTM COORDINATE ENTRY PROCEDURE 03-08-2011.pdf3 points

TACAN on Tanker is working only for the Server-host.... like the JATAC. :( But that's why I added a AWACS and set the route of the Tanker directly on the Bullseye. (Tanker will fly over the Bullseys) Please call the AWACS to find the Tanker. The AWACS will give you the position of the Tanker related to the Bullseys in direction and distance.2 points

MFCD Panel Thought I would post about the UFC that I have setup for my MFCD panel. This panel isn't in a full blown cockpit, it just sits on the desk and houses the TM MFD units with 8" monitors (#YN8088AV 8" VGA AV TFT LCD RCA XGA Display Monitors I bought off eBay) behind them and soon my poor man's UFC, the main monitor sits behind this panel. The panel in it's construction phase is shown above, is made of 1/2" MDF board. When it gets warmer I will paint it. The pic above shows the back of the panel and how the 8" monitors are attached. The screws for the four shinny tabs screw into the wood blocks at each side of the monitor. The TM MFD's are stuck to the monitors with double sided tape at the top and bottom (keeps the tape off the monitor screen). I used the back half of the case the monitor was enclosed in to cover up the wiring and hold the monitor PCB's. I cut the bottom front half of the case off that has the monitor control buttons on it and placed it at the top, attached with a couple small nails. The wood blocks at each side of the monitors are used to hold the screws to secure the monitors to the panel, much better than using MDF material that doesn't deal with screws as well as wood. The long dado below the monitors will allow a MDF piece (not shown) to be attached at 90 degrees to main panel and shims used under it to tilt the panel slightly when set on the desk top. The main panel below this piece will be below the desktop and stop the panel from moving away from the user while pushing buttons. Poor Man's UFC I would have loved to make the UFC replica posted elsewhere in the forums (the guy who did this did a fantastic job!), but it won't fit between my MFD's. Having the UFC above the MFD panel isn't an option for me, it would block the bottom of the main monitor. I chose a Genovation 682-U Keypad (USB version shown below) as it would fit between the MFD's. It has 35 programmable keys and a second key layer that adds 35 more (using one key as a shift key to choose key layers). Each key can be programmed to do multiple key strokes or with key modifiers (CTRL, ALT,SHIFT, etc) with one push of the programmed key. I tried to keep the original UFC key layout as best I could except for those keys that are not used by the sim. The keys that were left I used for other things I thought would be handy to have on the keypad. The CTR Track IR key is on this keypad because the keypad has F 13 - F24 keys that can be assigned. By using F13 I don't have to use any other keys for the Track IR centering key that conflicts with the default sim key assignments. I plan to take the top and bottom enclosure off the UFC keypad/PCB unit. Then fire up the router to lower the keypad/PCB unit into the panel so the keys aren't sticking out so much from the panel. This keypad has two layers activated with the upper left key. When the second layer is active a LED will be lit on the key. I plan to have keys for Communications use plus other things with the remaining keys of the second layer. I will need a key map below the keypad (or somewhere) to show the second layer key assignments. To get this to work I first determined my own key assignments for the various UFC keys (taking into account what key assignments A-10C Beta4 uses for other things in the sim) and programmed them into the keypad. The key assignments are then programmed and loaded into the keypad using the keypad software. The code is saved to a file, then downloaded and stored in the keypad, no need to load it for each use. The next thing was to edit the Keyboard.lua file so that the UFC key assignments are available for modifying them by the user (me) in the Options/Controls screen. NOTE: The Keyboard.lua file does not need editing in DCS A-10C Final Version, skip this step and continue with the next paragraph. After that it was a simple matter to open the sim to the Options/Controls screen and select the UFC item from the list and add the new key assignments by pressing the appropriate key on the UFC keypad. I now have a working UFC that interfaces with the HUD and MFCD's without having to use the main keyboard (with multiple key presses/command) or using the mouse to click in the screen cockpit UFC. My modest UFC keypad keeps my hand on the stick, much better! UPDATE I fired up the router to make room for the keypad and did some painting ( and to add to the spam :megalol:). The front view routed out for the keypad and its PCB's. It required three depths of routing due to the design of the metal keypad base and the PCB'S. Back view of the keypad mounting. If the MFD panels were any closer together I would not have room for the keypad, whew.... :gun_sniper:dodged a bullet there!! The keypad fits! The two notches (middle top & bottom of the keypad metal base) will be used to fasten it to the panel with two small screws. I made a molding to go around the keypad to finish it off (after a bit of swearing on my part). Epoxy is a great fix for those brain farts while using the router! Can you find my brain fart above (hint, the router bit is round)? Rear view of keypad. The white connector at the right is for the keypad USB cable. The TM MFD Panel is installed into its panel cutout. The USB cable routes out the back side of the panel and cannot be seen from the front. I put a piece of black electrical tape vertically (not shown) on each side of the MFD panel where it meets the main panel to block any light from the monitor coming through the crack. The tapes sticky side is towards the TM MFD panel and the main panel so it doesn't get onto the monitor screen. The monitor screens and covers were installed next. Rear view of both TM MFD Panels, the monitors (#YN8088AV 8" VGA AV TFT LCD RCA XGA Display Monitors I bought off eBay), and the keypad installed. I added a four port USB hub as I was running out of USB ports on my computer. It can be used unpowered or powered. The keypad only draws 10ma, but Im sure the MFD panels draw much more with all the LED's that are in them, so I have the USB hub powered. I haven't had any problems using this USB hub with these components. The monitors run on 12v DC, so they are supplied with 120v AC to 12v DC transformer/plugs (shown at left and right). The USB hub also has a transformer/plug (shown in the middle). The VGA connectors on the monitors point straight down. The horizontal MDF panel (below the monitors on the back side) prevents hooking the VGA cables to the monitors VGA connector, so a 90 degree VGA adapter is used to remedy that situation. The cables not shown hooked up are the two VGA cables and the USB hub to computer USB port cable. So here's the front view with everything hooked up and DCS A-10C running. At the lower left I have a piece of wood under the panel base to tip it up slightly, just testing now to find the proper angle. I will attach two blocks to each side after the testing period. The bottom lip is below the desktop so the panel will not move away from me in the heat of battle. What commands I want assigned to the keypad is still a work in progress, but it is easy to change as I determine what items are the most important to have in front of me and one key press away. Only problem is the keypad keys are not lighted so a dark room it is a problem. I plan to make a ledge similar to the top of the A-10C instrument panel where the fire extinguisher handles are. I have some green LED's coming, along with a dimmer, and I hope that the LED's mounted under the ledge will be enough to illuminate the keypad keys properly. I may have to modify my keys colors due to the green LED's, but that is easily changed. :pilotfly: NOTE: To see the latest evolution of this little panel GO here to post #25. This thread got hijacked just a bit, the link may save you some time.1 point

I see that this feature is not fully documented so I will try to unveil some hints. The main weather field is pressure distribution. In real world this field is formed by areas of high (H) and low (L) pressure calling baric systems (BS). In DCS mission editor (ME) we can set the number of these systems and dominant type. If dominant type is choosen then BS of dominant type will be generated near the centre of the map. If number of BS is greater than 1 other BS will be positioned around the centre. Their position are randomised but statistically they are placed evenly around the centre. Pressure excess is random for each BS. Dominant type of BS affects the average percentage of generated BS of this type. When the pressure field is ready, wind velocity field can be calculated both for altitude and surface winds. Altitude wind directed along isobaric lines and surface wind always additionally turnes towards pressure gradient. As well as pressure field cloud density field is calculated too. As in RL the clouds will be more dense around the L BS. The main problem is that we have not graphic representation for overcast spots, so the places that must be covered with overcast now are covered with our regular clouds.1 point

What I understand of the UTM format (being the same as MGRS) is this: Think of it as if you're looking at a paper mapsco book. (This isn't literal, but makes it practical) MM 12345 67891 MM = page 123 = Squares down the page 45 = meters down the '123' square 678 = Squares across the page 91 = meters across the '678' square They may give you MM123678. This gives you the grid but not the exact point within that grid, which is fine because it's only 99 meters. If the coords were MM 12345 06789 they may give you MM12367 because they drop the leading zero from 067. You must still enter the 0 before 67 when entering into the CDU. You can enter UTM into your CDU by switching from L/L (lat/long) mode to UTM mode with LSK R9 (bottom right key). Then by entering the UTM coords in ten number, six number, or less, and selecting LSK L9 (bottom left key) to save them to the waypoint currently showing on the CDU. For more info see Military Map Reading 201 at the Geo-spacial Intelligence Website. Someone close the gap if I'm leaving something out, please.1 point

Do you want your custom payloads back? Here is a really simple way. The ingame default payloads that you can select in multiplayer are contained in a file called; unitPayloads.lua located here : <installed folder>\Eagle Dynamics\DCS A-10C\MissionEditor\data\scripts When you make custom payloads via the mission editor they are saved to a file with the same name here: C:\Users\<your name>\Saved Games\DCS Warthog\MissionEditor If you name your custom payloads with the correct prefix; i.e Anti-Armor - <custom name> or Mix - <custom name> and copy the unitPayloads.lua from C:\Users\<your name>\Saved Games\DCS Warthog\MissionEditor to \Eagle Dynamics\DCS A-10C\MissionEditor\data\scripts you will have your custom payloads to select in multiplayer. Simples...Enjoy. ** EDIT: Oh yeah.. stock advice ...backup your original file before you overwrite it... **1 point

I guess that the real A10 doesnt have a parking brake... so be it. In real life, the ground crew puts on chocks.... got it. But in the sim the plane moves around a lot if there is wind or whatever and there is no way to stop the plane.... yes its irritating and yes it should have a brake to compensate for the ground crew not being able to put down chocks. PLEASE PUT THIS IN A FUTURE PATCH.... thanks Jeff1 point

That too :) I meant mainly repetitive chimney smokes (their intensity). Pretty eye catching. Vehicle smoke intensity - second (some should barely smoke). But the biggest pooper is killed vehicles smoking for X seconds and exploding after Y seconds. Some should not explode at all. I can only guess that making them behave in other manner instead of stopping when dead, what you mentioned, would be harder to alter than to use of RND in various places, where applicable. That said IMO this (proper haze/fog) and this (no transparent objects in targeting displays) make up for all the graphical flaws I can think of! Also the change from this (3D model) to this shows that ED does shoot out party poopers. It just does it at its own pace :smilewink: :P My list of top effects to change: - comprehensive work on sky color - vehicle explosion animation - vehicle explosion timing - cumulus clouds (shape, color, size - everything) - dynamic in-cockpit shadows1 point

My suggestion would be to drop that reputation system. 1. As happened to me, one bad rep dumped me to subzero, and that is an unfair system. 2. In RL, I am a physician and am responsible for 40 employees and my patients, so this kind of being rated by someone whom I do not know, who does not know me in RL and who simply dumped me because he did not understand my sense of humor annoys me. 3. The next thing, this is the forum of a commercial enterprise even when there is a community alive. People might be just turned away by such rules. In a private club we have, we do not have such thing as a rep bar: there is a counter for the posts, and a warnings status. Only mods are allowed to rise or lower warnings status. That is a much fairer system. No arbitrariness. doc-e1 point

Hi all, i had some time to spare today, and put this pdf/overview together, to give a quick overview of the different russian air defence system in the game DCS A-10c. Ill hope it will help you guys/girls to have the proper tactic ready for dealing with those beast. I personally think that Russia are the leader and master of Air Defence systems, perhpas because the USA is the leader and master of Air Power :) Any suggestions are welcome http://www.mediafire.com/?fc1gi6ccjy18e1 point

I understand the complexity of creating a truly dynamic weather engine, however maybe you should take a look at the approach I propossed above, that is mission creators have the option to set the weather in at least 3 different airports in one single mission, so for instance I make Batumi clear weather, Gudauta with an overcast and wind and Anapa with thunderstom. The weather is created around those airports and in a large area around. This way a pilot flying from Batumi in clear skies, would find clouds and deteriorating weather while passing Gudauta to find a developed thunderstorm over Anapa. This will allow us to set the specifi weather we do need for missions while at the same time it is "dynamic enough" and most important "predictable" Just give us the options to select 3 or 4 airports per mission or maybe more (like if they were METAR stations) so mission creators could place different weather conditions on each of them using the same tool you have now for "Standar Weather" but independent for some airports. I think this would give a lot of possibilities to the mission creators without having to force ED to create a full weather editor. And will give pilots predictable and changing weather. Just my two cents :)1 point

Sorry for a little OT but I want to bring this to attention: When you use SoftTH you can use as many displays as display-ports you have on your computer in fullscreen-mode. The monitors can have different resolution size and aspect. The new v2.04 is even for 64bit available. Everyone that still uses the windowed mode to see MFCDs at a second (or even fourth) screen should have a look at it SoftTH. SoftTH works even with eyefinity and TH2GO and also with usb monitors. here is an example of Eyfinity with softTh using DCS: The three horizontal monitors are eyefinity and the lower and upper monitor are configured with Softth. And here is the point: DCS runs in full-screen mode and you get much better fps . Here are two other impressive examples what you can do with softth: dirt2 on 15 monitors 9 monitors in a row1 point

"Well done soldier!" Just finished Devil's Cross today. JTAC always worked for me. His coordinates were on, his red diamond was on. His BDA seemed off to me based on the results screen. (JTAC would always sell me short on kills.) The problem with the mission is: The weather--made my FPS pretty low. Viziani Airbase--also made my FPS slow (but better since the patch). And the wingmen who usually decided to stay in the hangar. Score on this mission seemed mostly based on successful check-in and check-out with JTAC. Oh yes and about datalink. First, it has nothing to do with JTAC. 2nd it seems to work if you accept the mission (and just 2 AGMs and no TGP) WITHOUT using the mission planner screen. Everytime I modified the loadout with that screen my EPLRS would reset to ID0 and Group0. Usually I could never find the Group ID my wingy was using. However, the 2 times I skipped the mission planner screen I had the other members of my flight on the TAD (remaining in the hangar of course).1 point

Wow, Thanks WarriorX, you've just transformed this game for me. couldnt get on at all with that but finding a piece of p*s now. Just a note to fellow noobs that when you have the target set as steerpoint, hold China Hat Aft long to slave the TGP to it, little look around (they maybe moving) then show them how its done :). Just an idea I've only had a quick chance to try but didnt make much difference is... if the UFC coords point to a box that the target may be in, and we only use 6 digit but could be 8 or 10. Does that mean that if you visualize it as a box, you are looking at the top left corner of it. Then the next digit would divide that into 10? If so, would your UFC point to the Centre of the box if you added a 5 to the end of each - example: GG 314 304 is the same as GG 3140 3040 - this represents the top left GG 3150 3050 - this represents the bottom right GG 3145 3045 - This represents the centre I gave it a quick try tonight but did not see much difference but only got time to try once. What do you all think?1 point

See this post for an explanation (without the graphics). UTM and MGRS are not the same. MGRS is an overlay on UTM, making the coordinate format more manageable by dividing the large UTM grid zones into smaller, alphanumerically designated 100,000 m grid squares, thereby significally cutting down on the number of digits needed for a position reference over the radio and the potential for misunderstanding. You need to make sure that the double character grid square (e g WC, MM, DS) and grid zone designator (number plus character, e g 38T), are correct as well as the coordinates. I think JTAC typically omits the grid zone, just assuming everyone to be on the same page so to speak. Typically, you pre-brief which grid zone you're in (at least where I'm at) so it can be safely omitted unless you're operating right on the border between two grid zones and have different charts. But as Napoleon said, anything important in a war will happen between two chart sheets. Remember to truncate rather than round. Eg let us say that the MGRS for the dot following "Gusconade R" in the graphic is at approximately MGRS XC086397 (which is not quite true, as far as I can see, but it needs to be for the example to work). With lower, more realistic precision, it'd be XC0839, rather than XC0940. A grid point always means the referenced object is in the grid square east/north of the point. In the graphic, the point used could be described as, with decreasing precision, WC8081751205 WC80815020 WC808512 WC8051 WC85 The 0 in 067 can NOT be dropped. No way, never. DCS drops leading zeroes on the eastings. This is a bug, which always gives incorrect coordinates and which can give unusable coordinates if there are two leading zeroes. To use coordinates with leading zeroes dropped in the CDU, you need to reinsert the missing zero. Odd number of digits -> Assume missing leading zero. Double leading zeroes missing? You have no way of knowing something is amiss and you're basically screwed. Regardless of the number of digits, it's still a grid square. The number of digits determines the size of the grid square indicated, or the uncertainty in the position reference.1 point

My first post so bare with me... I'm 'Steve', the person in that video and spotted the question your asking, hopfully i can help a bit here. I've decided to make the move into eyefinity myself (thats a friends setup i was using). 1st thing i've been told, make sure the monitors have the Display Port adapters, apparently these are the ones to be using when you have multi monitors running. You can get adapters as well (if needed) but better to use the normal setup type thing. The card used for that video was an ATI 6970 as far as i'm aware. Thinking i could start by grabbing the GFX card, then the monitors etc stopped me in my tracks... always an upgrade to do 1st  To do this i'm going to have to upgrade my power supply to something around 1000 Watts (it helps power the card and everything else in the box), i've looked into monitors which have the Display Port connections and they seem to be running at around the 200 pounds (UK prices) each. Then the next part would be the card which runs for about 200 - 250 quid. All in all i'd be looking at approx 700 pounds worth of extras to have my own x3 monitor setup. The only thing i can recall about that setup of my friends was i recall him mention maybe a FOV (Field Of View) setting in a file somewhere. I'll see if i can get him to look at your post though, he might be able to help you more.1 point
