I am glad to announce that the F-111C may be seen in DCS, This MOD is currently in the early stages of development. Our end goal for this MOD is to be fully stand alone, with a full fidelity cockpit, although early stages may require fc3. For those who are interested in seeing this MOD progress, please join our discord server so that you don't miss updates releases and news! https://discord.gg/smE7qZCPZH Here are some pictures for those who are interested:10 points

Honestly, the amount of people on here that complain while simultaneously having their arm extended, palm open, is shocking. CH is a one man army that provide us with quality assets for our favorite game... for free. SO MANY assets in fact that updating them without packaging them up has become unsustainable. IDK man, people are hard to please I guess.6 points

What a polite and thoughtful response ... makes one wonder how some users have no problem downloading DCS in the first place, but then balk at any large User Mod. On my case, I actually prefer larger Mods Packs, rather than piecemeal individual assets, as it makes it easier to share missions without having to micro-manage which exact Mods it requires.6 points

as someone who studied and listened to various Iranian fighter pilot interviews I can tell that there is a misconception about level of skill of Iraqi Air Force. Iraqis were very skilled and experienced pilots they had powerful radar networks including good GCI allowing them to fly deep within Iran. they had plenty of good combat experience against Israel even more combat experience than Iranian pilots, based on interviews with former Iranian SIGNIT/ELINT officers of Iran, their GCIs somehow could get intel on presence of an F-14s in some instance which led to dozens of mission abort for Iraqi side. it was very very common that lots of Iraq planes jettisoned their bombs as soon as locked by an F-14 (commonly mentioned, mentioned by Shahram Rostami as well) they performed cooperative maneuvers to evade and destroy a considerable number of Iranian radar installations, which led to Iranian air defense units work together with the air force, The Operation Fath Ol Mobin proved cooperation of air defense and air offense can be game changer sometimes. anyway back to the topic , Iraqis also had their own techniques of evading the F-14 and AWG-9 (as described by one of our former pilots whose name I forgot) i.e performing ZigZag which we call Cranking to the left and right but interesting part is, these maneuvers did not help them as they got close as below 20 nautical miles, missiles fired within that range had a really good PK and I don't remember reading somewhere they miss within that window, except Colonel Mazandarani's Phoenix was missed because he fired the phoenix at a fast and cold target despite it was within 15nm range and he almost got detained for that. interesting part is they have done lots of these tactics using the old SPO-10 RWRs , they heavily relied on their GCI as EWRs however. Iraqis also used ECM a lot, the most powerful Jammers used by Iraqi airforce were the ones used on their Mirage-F-1s, these jammers managed to disable many of our HAWK systems but due to the fact that the ground based radar installations were exposed to hot and humid weather, based on interviews and mentions in Tom Cooper's book ; the Iraqis used very advanced ECMs against AWG-9 but the it could easily counter the jam and do it's job without any issue. I don't really like the way some people want to represent the phoenix as a slow fat brick only able to crash into straight flying big bombers. Phoenix is a very capable missile, and it is proven to be a very good and reliable weapon against agile fighters even in DCS with current state. regarding missile kinematic performance I have almost 0 data to verify how accurate it is performing vs real life but I believe the PK of DCS Phoenix will significantly improve once we get a much realistic or advanced missile API. personally I manage to fire the phoenixes against AI above 30k feet and Mach 0.9 and I always get +90% PK, I also have a good PK with it down on the deck , if fired within NEZ I always score a kill (~7nm). If you guys are interested in hearing first hand memories of our Iranian Tomcat pilots I highly suggest you to follow this youtube channel , it is in Persian but using a powerful AI service such as Gboard you can translate and use the details provided in this channel : Alireza Hamzei is a retired F-14 test and instructor pilot he has a youtube channel and he used to interview veteran pilots of Iran-Iraq War : https://www.youtube.com/@AlirezaHamzei/videos the content or the details shared by our veterans are valid they are not propaganda bold claims because Iranian national airforce was always opposed by Islamic leadership, the leaders always treated as our airforce pilots with poor trust and always disregarded their credits, they gave all the credits to the IRGC and corrupt IRGC officers who were poorly trained with awful results in war, they always insulted and discredited by IRGC and religious figures so it was their own benefit to share the public non but honest reports to gain the true reputation they deserve. I'm so sorry for the long message but I hope it helps the community. Sincerely6 points

We are working on a cold start training mission. Auto hover is not planned. You are right it does not have something like that originally. It does not even have something like SAS. You have to fly it by your self completely. That can be challenging, but it's exactly what makes this helicopter so charming for me Thx for sharing! We have this bag of grenades already implemented5 points

let me start with a few kind words toward the Mi-24, i love the Mi-24 module, i was an early adopter (pre-ordering it) and its probably the aircraft ive flown the most, i know it is the helicopter ive flown the most, Petrovitch is a lovely co-pilot and is quite helpful in combat and with a decent enough selection of weapons it makes the Mi-24 quite effective against most targets . . . but it could be better, so here are the things that i think are missing and Wishlist of things that should be added most of the following requires no elaboration, when i feel its needed i will put it in (parentheses), and if something is a joke it will be in italics first we will start with the fixes 1- Copilot-gunner multicrew jitteriness (when i enable the CPG's body he jitters alot like the animations are broken and when i move the stick his hand doesn't move with it nor does the check watch animation work) 2-external pilot head movement animations sometimes break (some times the pilots head will just be fixed looking down and to the left, i have experienced this while with a MC CPG and i was in the pilots seat) 2nd, onto the missing features (where did they go?) 1- working cargo bay lights (the switch in the cockpit does nothing both in blue and white modes) 2- working helmet visors (when you lower the helmet visor it should have some level of sunglasses effect so you can fly into the sun without it blinding you) 3-Air to ground mode for the R-60M's 4- the ability to "eject", to jump out of the hind 5- full manual (im sure it will come on release, but i am just noteing it here so its not forgotten) as for the updates, there is one in particular 1- better/more accurate blade tip lights, (IRL they look like one solid circle around the top of the helo, and in photos it is the same, they dont look like 5 individual lights spinning round) now for my favourite section, the Reasonable Wishlist of features, (most of these are also on my fellow hind pilots wish lists and most aren't out of the realm of possibility) 1- reduced loadout ATGM's (having one ATGM per rack on each side, some one who is assumed to be an Mi-24 dev said that they wont waste time on "exotic loadout's" but this is both bad reasoning, and untrue, its not hard to find picture's and videos from Afghanistan and Syria where Mi-24's are carrying only 2 ATGM's one on each side, it is a historic and common loadout and something i have many photos of, the apache has reduced hellfire's, there is no reason the Mi-24 shouldn't) 2- reduced loadout S-8 rockets, (i have been informed that in certain higher altitude parts of Afghanistan Mi-24's flew with only half filled S-8, pods 10 rockets per side, due to MTOW limitations) 3- ability to rotate the Pilot and CPG fans side-to-side (the brackets they are mounted on allow for this movement, along with translational movement, and in the front seat when you line up the gunsight with the bore sight the gunsight and cockpit fan physically conflict with one another, the blades clipping though part of the CPG's gunsight, this would also mean it wouldn't get in your way so much) 4- the ability to remove the PZU (PyleZashchitnoe Ustroystvo) dust filters (i have no idea if this would effect engine performance, intuition tells me it would only slightly, and it would allow the engines to be damaged by dust, the main reason i ask for it is because it looks cool and there are many photos of Mi-24P flying in Russia without PZU even in modern times) 5- PKT/RPK/AK-74 door gunner options with 1985 period correct clothing (PKT, RPK and AK-74 are all more historically accurate to the Mi-24 than the Kord (time wise the Mi-24P came out in 1981 and the Kord in 1998), as well as the PKT, RPK and AK-74 would allow Hind crews to not only carry more rounds of ammunition for the same weight and space in the cargo bay as well as it would allow Hind crews to have Door gunners on both sides at the same time, meaning the door gunners would be more effective against infantry and light targets (wider angles of fire), also as the PKT, PKM and AK-74 fire off the window mounts it would mean that the crew in the cargo bay would be more protected) (period correct kits for the older guns would be nice instead of modern 6B Ratnik kit (2013) on the Kord gunner) 6- remove the door gunner payload and artificial angle limitations (there is no reason i shouldn't be able to load GUV-8700 or Rocket pods on the in-board pylons while having door gunners, just dont shoot at your own weapons and you still have a large angle of fire, around where the pylon mounted weapon is, also the Mi-24's Kord gun mounts get artificially restricted when you load weapons on the wings, it doesn't just stop you from aiming the Kord at the weapons but also at the ground and sky below and above the pylon mounted weapons, effectively stopping you from aiming rearward) 7- Kord PSO scope (as it seem the Kord isnt going any where, nor should it, i think we should get a PSO scope option as door gunners commonly use PSO's on helo door guns, the mount is already modelled on the Kord in game and it would help on getting those long range shots) 8- P-50T Bomb (they are a training bomb, pretty useless in combat but can be used to mark targets and train bombing with, i think they would be cool to have and wouldn't be much effort to add.) Now for a few Pics explaining some of the things i mentioned in the above image we can see the window mounts for the PKV/RPK/AK-74 door guns, it would be lovely to have a door gunner on each side at the same time, also you can see one of the dome lights i mentioned on the roof the above 2 images are examples of 1 ATGM being carried on each side, the top image is in Syria and the bottom image is in Afghanistan (i have many more images and you can find many more with a simple search, in the image above you can see a Mi-24P (i think) with out PZU's, looks lame doesn't it. in the above image you can see a Mi-8 with the blade tip lights turned on (i couldn't find a pic of the Mi-24 with the incandescent), instead of being short separate 5 lights the lights should be a solid disk in the above image we can see a Mi-24 armed with P-50T's in the above image you can see the CPG fan conflicting with the window glass and the gunsight. in the above images we can see PKV door guns on the hind, these would be a lovely addition especially if we can get one on each side allowing us to fly through afghan valley's and shoot out of booth sides at insurgents at the same time, also it would allow us to carry a larger number of bullets so we would have longer durations of fire from the door guns making them more effective even if the rounds have lower/no explosive mass and less range in final, i think that is all, i might have forgot something, if you want more evidence of Mi-24's carrying one ATGM each side i have many photos and some videos ill happily provide in comment's, and if any one wants and extra detail about anything ill be happy to help, right, now off to fly the Mi-24 with a friend (an honourable mention, the L-166V, adlest having an option to show the physical thing with the cover over it for those sweet sweet soviet-afghan and UN screenshots and Missions)4 points

Strange, I'll take a look. Thanks for the suggestion! Thanks for the suggestion! Yep, it might happen. Well, I've said it before. If downloading my assets is such a burden, why even use them? It's not like I get royalties per copy. The quid pro quo for all the hours I put into my assets is waiting for a download to finish. If admin becomes too much work I would just keep making the assets but not release them publicly. The move to larger packs is how I chose to combat the issue for now. You'll just have to wait and see. I do what I can within the possibilities and limitations of DCS. I use standard features, in this case both unguided and guided munitions. These are standard features in DCS and should be able to use with scripts and such.4 points

I think whole S300 family asset pack would be really a nice addition to DCS. HDS seems outdated and it doesn't meet "new" model standards. By S300 family I mean: S300V1-4, S300VM1/M2, S300VMD, S300P, S300PT/A, S300PS, S300PM1/2, S300PMU1/2 and S400. With a proper IADS integration it would be a game changer for current DCS mod environment .4 points

So it's been ... a while since the last Scim update. Work has continued, mostly on the research side for the last couple of months, but a little 3D work here and there. As is the way with many DCS modding projects, it all takes much longer than one expects, and learning an entirely new way to do 3D, as well as working from some pretty questionable documentation has made this much more challenging. I've also been much busier with the unavoidable "real life" (which I am now quite convinced does exist and wasn't just made up to stop me practicing case III recoveries), and a couple of other projects which I've been splitting my time with to avoid burn-out. It's about a year since I started this project, and although I have definitely not progressed at the speed I had hoped, it's been a lot of fun so far. The Scimitar isn't going anywhere, but for the time being it's going on the back burner until I can get better 3D reference, be it more detailed plans or scans of models perhaps. I will be working on the cockpit here and there, and might even finish off the current 3D model for AI use only over the next couple of months (pretty pictures will of course be provided where appropriate). In the meantime I have a couple of other DCS mod projects that will be announced in due course so stay tuned in the forums and discord.4 points

@AndreNL, regardless of whatever weapon system you have selected, the weapon system can only be targeted by the sight you have selected within the crewstation. If you have selected the gun, it will only follow your head if you have selected HMD as your sight. If you select FCR, the gun will point toward the FCR target with the diamond around it, it will not follow your head. However, if the FCR has no target, the gun (or any weapon you are using) has no target to aim toward which is why you have LOS INVALID displayed. If you wish to aim your weapon with your helmet, you must select HMD as your sight. This is the same logic in both crewstations, regardless of what weapon you are using. Also, you cannot select TADS as your sight in the backseat. This Sight Select switch position only works in the front seat since the Pilot has no way to contrll the TADS. @Grennymaster, you can use the FCR with any weapon system. Gun, rockets, and missiles. You just can't use the laser-guided missile variants.4 points

HDS mod has actual destroyed models, and their performance characteristics are solid. I would not call this an outdated mod. Currenthill may disagree, but I would consider this request to be highly redudant, since it is already in-game to a high degree of recreation. I would assume he'd prefer to spend his time creating systems that we don't have in-game yet.3 points

That was normal in those days. Back when we splashed around in that bathtub the R2D2s were pretty much always in standby, or just flat out turned off. Those things have a mind of their own and the first thing on their mind is not always the promotion path of the commanding officer, which runs counter to the purpose of a Naval vessel in those days. The scuttlebutt was nobody felt comfortable leaving them turned on lest something career limiting happen.3 points

The physical switch position is there in the Pilot seat and you can press it; but just like the BUCS trigger, it is only functional in the CPG crewstation. It's a lot cheaper to mass-produce identical collective controls for each crewstation.3 points

Yeah, Thaad should be there. thanks for the suggestion! @currenthill what about to have a second zipped file as an updater to the mayor huge package. That way we don't need to download the whole package every time you launch some minors add and fix. That way slow speed internet people have a refresh on that. I know some people did stop use your mods due the size of the package to download.3 points

Not necessarily, you only need the areas where combat is taking place to be high detailed, especially with more realistic starting locations. Then why is it referred to as an Earth map? Why is it referred to as being "the actual planet" or "the whole world"? Yes there is.3 points

Hello all you fine Viggen drivers! I'm in the process of making a Viggen series of tutorials on my YouTube channel. Please check it out and let me know what you think. In 2023 this module is still one of the best in terms of graphical fidelity and realism. I'm having a great time covering it. Also browse the playlists on my channel for other tutorial series on the F-14, F-16, F-18, Harrier, Gazelle, Black Shark, JF-17 and probably some that I've forgotten.2 points

The FULCRUM is the ideal point defender - if the point to defend is the own airfield.”

+1 here as well. Recently got back in to flying the Gazelle and the fps problems have been doing my head in. I've just discovered before finding this thread that it only happens with the “L” version. The periscope always on, sound like a plausible explanation. Has there been any feedback on this or has anybody managed a work around? EDIT: Ok, I've double checked and it is definitely is caused by the periscope always rending the view ahead! A temporary solution is to hop in to the left seat before take off and aim the periscope above the horizon so that it sees no terrain during normal flight. At least in that way your not getting a fps hit until you actually use the sight. I know its not a solution but it eases some of the frustration when flying the L version for me at least.2 points

Thanks for your contribution! I would say that all kill claims and reports of exploits need to be scrutinized, whether they come from Iran, Israel, the USAF, USN, etc. Circumstances matter and are non-trivial to account for, everybody honestly thinks they've destroyed more aircraft than they actually did at all times (even without taking purposeful overclaiming into account), aircraft are frequently misidentified, etc.2 points

True, though this is an issue faced in real life, of course sometimes you've got restricted operating areas and sometimes not many escorts, but then this is why a layered defense is employed. One thing made worse in DCS that isn't just the maps, is that the Arleigh Burke and Ticonderoga should have access to much longer-ranged missiles (RIM-156A SM-2ER Block IV for the latter, RIM-174A ERAM for the former), which would partially counteract this problem. SM-2MR in DCS also behaves like an SM-1MR and doesn't fly a trajectory optimised for engaging low-flying threats at longer ranges. The other thing is that ships won't manoeuvre to adapt to a changing threat axis, not will they manoeuvre defensively at all. All this however, is probably going further and further off-topic, so I'll cut it off here.2 points

It also makes sense if you want to have maximum flexibility when choosing a theatre, the kind of flexibility you don't have on smaller regional maps. Because: There are theatres wholly absent (Vietnam, Balkans, central Europe, GIUK gap etc). Even for theatres which we do have a map for, they sometimes will either miss important areas or won't have them present in a usable state (Caucasus misses Marneuli airbase for 2008 Russo-Georgia War; SoH/PG misses Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain; Channel misses RAF Hudson for Operation Jericho) etc. It's use isn't solely confined to just having massive long distances. Plus, there are several other combat games which do/are going to have world maps, even in cases where the primary theatre is concentrated on one area (Silent Hunter, Sea Power, C:MANO/C:MO etc).2 points

When a Phalanx is installed on a ship, a series of hard stops are used to limit the firing arcs to prevent rounds hitting the ship’s decks or superstructure. However CIWS have fired at friendly ships in real life! During the first Gulf war in 1991, the Phalanx onboard USS Jarret in automatic mode fired at a chaff cloud launched by USS Missouri in response to an attack by an Iraqi Silkworm missile. Several rounds hit USS Missouri2 points

There is an open Bug report from 4 years ago and it's still not fixed. It's just a little config error. I myself could fix it in 5 minutes if given the possibility. If runway 13 is active, ILS for 31 is active. If runway 31 is active, ILS for 13 is active. Someone just did a little oopsie with the config numbers. Honestly this shouldn't even take 5 minutes to fix. PLEASE?!2 points
