Dear all, thank you for your interest and your questions regarding DCS: MiG-29A Fulcrum. To address the most common questions and concerns, we have created this FAQ. We hope it will set expectations for this exciting module. What Variant is the DCS: MiG-29A Fulcrum? The 9.12A export version of the aircraft. It is primarily based on the MiG-29A flight manual that is available on Amazon.com. Why not a more advanced MiG-29 version like the 9.13, SMT, etc.? The MiG-29A is what we have an abundance of references materials on and SME feedback. Currently, the required public information for the more advanced MiG-29 versions is not available. You said you could not do Russian Aircraft, what changed? While Russian aircraft pose their own challenges due to availability of public information, the export version of the MiG-29A provides us the unique references to model this 4th generation Russian aircraft at a full-fidelity level. Is this just adding a clickable cockpit to the Flaming Cliffs MiG-29? While this will include a fully interactive cockpit, there is much more to this module. Including but not limited to a complete modelling of the systems, sensor, and weapons simulation, in-depth modelling of flight control systems, defensive systems, IFF, GCI datalink, radios, emergency systems, INS navigation system, DTC options, and much more to provide a full-fidelity simulation. The cockpit and external model are also new and based on scanning. New effects will also be included like new afterburner and over-wing/LEX vapor effects. See the feature list below. Will I get a discount for owning the FC MiG-29 or full FC package? No, this is a new module in all ways and is separate from the Flaming Cliffs version. Will the FM be improved from the Flaming Cliffs version? The FM on the FC: MiG-29 was already a PFM (Professional Flight Model) and we are very happy with it. What missiles will the DCS: MiG-29A be able to use? The current planned missiles are R-73, R-60, R-27R, R-27T, R-27ER, and R-27ET. How much is the DCS: MiG-29A? During Pre-purchase, you can save 30% on this module. Once it is released and in Early Access, there will be a 20% discount. Once the final version is released, it will be full-priced at $79.99 USD. When will the module be released? DCS: MiG-29A is planned for early access release in 2025. We will provide a more specific date once it is closer to early access complete and carefully tested. Will there be a pre-order on Steam? Steam requires a firm release date for a pre-purchase. Once we have this, we will contact Valve about a Steam pre-purchase option. What will we get with the DCS: MiG-29A? The following is the current feature list for this module. Early Access features Fully interactive and highly detailed cockpit based on 3D laser scanning and photogrammetry. Highly detailed and accurately reproduced external model. Highly detailed pilot model with HMS. In-depth modelling of aircraft systems and equipment. Navigation System modes: POINT-TO-POINT mode for flying along a given route and flying to a programmed point; RETURN mode for performing a return to one of the three programmed airfields; LANDING mode for landing at both programmed and non-programmed airfields; and TRAFFIC RE-ENTRY mode for performing a re-approach to a programmed airfield in case of go around. Detailed model of the Gyro Systems with Fast and Long Alignment modes and onboard navigation equipment. The ability to program three airfields, three RSBN radio navigation beacons, and three navigation points during the mission creation phase and while flying the mission. Realistic modelling of the SPO-15LM “Beryoza” radar warning receiver and flare dispenser system. Fire Control Radar (FCR) with search and tracking modes for air targets that include HEAD ON, PURSUIT, AUTOMAT, TWF and CLOSE COMBAT modes. Infrared Search and Track (IRST) and Laser Range Finder (LRF) with modes for air targets: INFRARED (IR), CLOSE COMBAT, HELMET, OPTICAL (OPT) and Boresight. LRF can be used to measure the target range with automatic IRST tracking. LRF can also be used to measure slant range for ground attacks. Ground attack modes that include Pre-Designate OPT for use with moving targets and in windy conditions; Non-Predesignate OPT for use with stationary targets and in calm conditions; and TOSS when bombing is conducted with a 110–130-degree pitch angle. To expand the combat capabilities for a covert attack on an aerial target and counter electronic countermeasures, the interaction of the FCR and IRSTS/LRF has been modelled. The Kinematic Range Determination Method (KRDM) has been modelled for FCR and IRSTS/LRF. In the absence of target range data, this method provides precise range measurement. Basic Identify Friend or Foe (IFF) modelling. Early Access Guide. Interactive Training missions. Full Russian cockpit and localization of avionics, cockpit and technical inscriptions in English. At Final Release: Ground Control Intercept (GCI) command system. Full IFF modelling. Full Flight Manual. Campaign by Eagle Dynamics. Increased number of missions and liveries. What is the difference between Basic and Full IFF modelling? Basic IFF simply distinguishes Friend or Foe based on coalition settings in the game. A more advanced IFF simulation will come later based on specific transponder codes, with more details to follow. What is the Ground Control Intercept (GCI) command system? This system aids in guiding the aircraft to targets via commands sent from Ground Control Intercept systems. As the system develops, we will have more information and detailed instructions on how to use it. Is ground support equipment like engine covers planned? Yes, we are already working on several pieces of MiG-29A support equipment like covers and ladders. Will we see any tutorial videos? Yes, Wags will do videos on all aspects of the DCS: MiG-29A as we get closer to release. You may ask questions you would like to see added to the MiG-29A and added to the FAQ here . We thank you for all the support you have shown us and the passion that drives you all to keep pushing us to do our best and release the very best products we can. The ED Team12 points

Hi! I would like to introduce my CWG Sandbox. https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3344728/ It is basically 70, yes seventy, quick missions rolled into one mission file. Each slot equals one quick mission. The tasks range from simple intercepts, to deep strikes into highly defended enemy territory. All SAM sites provided by the map are populated with the correct SAM type (to the best of my knowledge). In total there are 50 quick missions for USAFE, RAFG and Luftwaffe and 20 quick missions for Soviet and GDR forces. Mission distances range from 70 to 700 nautical miles. USAFE A-10A 5 slots operating our of Wiesbaden (FOL) A-10C II 5 slots operating out of Sembach F-4E 5 slots operating out of Ramstein F-4E 5 slots for pseudo F-4G operating out of Spangdahlem F-15C 5 slots out of Bitburg F-16C 5 slots for a pseudo F-16A operating out of Hahn RAFG Harrier 5 slots for pseudo GR.3 operating out of road bases Harrier 5 slots for pseudo GR.5 operating out of road base and Gütersloh F-4E 5 slots for pseudo FGR-2 operating out of Gütersloh Luftwaffe F-4E 5 slots for a pseudo initial and Peace rhine F-4F out of Bremen (stand-in for Wittmund) and Pferdsfeld NVA LSK-LV MiG-21 5 slots out of Peenemünde and Laage GSSD MiG-21 5 slots out of Damgarten and Wittstock MiG-29 5 slots out of Merseburg Su-25 5 slots out of Kothen Features: + 70 slots with one quick mission each + slots for A-10A, A-10CII, F-4E, F-15C, F-16C, MiG-21, MiG-29, Su-25 + realstically populated Air defense sites + F10 options to enable/disable enemy AD + F10 options to spawn enemy QRA + measures to reduce performance impact + manual in PDF format + mission overview sheet in PDF format + recommend skins list Enjoy! P.S.: You can add planes to an existing group or swap the aircraft type, as long as the initial group/unit name is not altered.4 points

It is my understanding that only 2 of the 12 maps available for purchase (or free) have RSBN capability. With the coming of the 9.12A will the map makers add RSBN beacons to all the maps and airbases or are you going to make the beacons as an asset available in Mission Editor? Like portable TACAN beacons for example?4 points

We haven't looked into dynamic numbers for ships yet, I just added the BORT number system to the MiG-21MF. If this is somehow similar, we'll need to do some research how to achieve this and go ahead with it. No promises, though. Keep in mind though that you will get three different variants of the Knox class Destroyer Escorts, plus some liveries with different hull numbers: USS Knox USS Gary USS Kirk It ought to be achievable to use the hull number template mechanism to add more liveries. Thanks! The CV-9 Essex was meant to be retired from the mod by 1.0.0 as its quite different from the CVA-31 Bon Homme Richard. My oversight that it didn't happen. I believe the dds image files in the scb125 directories are left over from early tests. Excellent suggestion to remove them! For adding the remaining images to the central zip and setting the appropriate flag, good idea as well. Thanks for raising this observation! Cheers, TeTeT4 points

+1, I know perfectly well the opinions of a pilot, a friend, who trained and flew the entire service on the MiG-29 in version 9.12. Unfortunately, he has a negative opinion in terms of FM of the current MiG-29 model from FC (MiG-29A). In reality, he evaluates the MiG as a plane that reacts much better to the pilot's actions and is much more responsive. In FC, he emphasizes quite strongly that the plane is too heavy in flight and understeers. Of course, this is not my opinion, although I have similar impressions from the very beginning after the changes in PFM some time ago (btw. interesting that he rated the previous flight model as better). I hope that FM will change for FF version to be more hunting and aggressive and the FM will be further studied and analyzed again before the model will be released. Personally I can't wait :). Pre-ordered on the first day anyway.3 points

Are you guys not aware that anyone with graphical knowledge will be able to get the 3D model, regardless of whether you encrypt it or not? At the end of the day, this just harms the community and solves almost nothing.3 points

How can the FM be improved if it is already very close to the real world prototype? being a FC Module does not means that it has no flight model fidelity, what it doesn't have is full fidelity systems (electrics, fuel, hydraulic, sensors, etc)3 points

Is it planned to improve the FM, in accordance with the comments of the pilots who posted testograms of a real flight, and in which there were discrepancies with the FM in the game? Thank you.3 points

Thank you, everyone, for reporting the issue. It has been fixed internally, and the fix should be available in the next patch.3 points

Hi LucShep Other OS's are something we will consider after vulkan is implemented. But for now windows is only supported.3 points

Just a few points Windows 10 is coming to the end of its life, it will become an unsupported OS. Windows 11 had a performance boost on my system, it handles CPU cores better than windows 10. Like with many things time moves on and the hardware and software moves with it, you either move or you do not Eventually windows 10 will no longer work with DCS, the same happened with windows 7, but I do not know when. thanks3 points

The ICAO identifiers of the airbases in the CWG map (F10 map) are a mix of the current >1995 system (like Wunstorf ETNW, Fassberg ETHS, Ramstein ETAR) and the old <1995 system (like Celle EDCL or Spangdahlem EDAD). This should be unified to one system, preferably the old <1995 system (even though the new system is a lot more comprehensible). Information on the old and new ICAO codes can be found here in this by now well-known website: https://www.mil-airfields.de/germany/west-germany-air-bases.html2 points

Ok- first of all... fantastic mod. I've wanted a good MiG-31 mod/module for a while, and this is the first one that is of good quality. So for that- thank you. That being said, as a bit of a MiG-31 fanatic- there's some inaccurate things. First of all, you should not be able to put R-33s or R-37s under the wings. The only place where the MiG-31 can mount these missiles is under the belly. Now- I'm assuming you got confused by multiple sources stating that the MiG-31 can carry 6 R-37s, and assumed that these additional 2 hardpoints must've been under the wings. The truth is that the MiG-31M prototype from the 1990s had 6 hardpoints under the belly and could carry 6 R-33s/R-37s there. As far as I know, this is NOT a feature on any other MiG-31 variant (which all have 4 underbelly pylons for 4 big missiles). The MiG-31BM's ability to carry AG munitions is also seemingly only a feature on the MiG-31BM prototype from the 1990s (not to be confused with the proper serial production MiG-31BM from 2008 onwards). There has been not a single instance of a modern MiG-31BM carrying AG munitions apart from the Kinzhal on MiG-31K/MiG-31I. The only pictures of a "MiG-31BM" carrying Kh-31s and Kh-59s is of that 1990s prototype. Secondly, the R-33 as you have represented it in-game is a bit wrong. See, the original R-33 variant (which is actually represented quite well in vanilla DCS) is a bit of a piece of <profanity>. It had only 60 seconds of battery life, did NOT have loft, and had terrible range (for a "long range" missile, that is). Range charts show that the R-33 had about the same amount of range as the R-27ER due to it's deficiencies. Now, this is still pretty good when going up F-15s and F/A-18s armed with AIM-7s, and the MiG-31 should still far outrange them in an early 1980s environment, but it's not the super duper ultra long range missile that it is in the mod. Now, the R-33 you have in the mod is actually a pretty good representation of the R-33S which allegedly did fix a lot of the R-33's issues. It's not known what exactly was changed, but apparently the range increase was so great that some Soviet officials themselves didn't believe it. It can be assumed that upgrades were made to the battery life, motor and lofting profile. But again, these are assumptions. I'd recommend you rename the R-33 in the mod to the "R-33S" and add the vanilla R-33 as a weapon option as it is actually simulated quite well in terms of range (you might need to make only a few minor adjustments).2 points

Right, where's that quality in my Tomcat? Major gamebreaking bugs left for years, crawling development and maintenance since new cash cows showed up on the horizon, unrealistic implementations... Both ED, RAZABAM and HB create top notch modules - none is caring them well. About WSO - it was planned in later development and yes, it's needed and welcome. Contrary to the Tomcat though you don't actually require one to fly and fight, so players rarely miss him.2 points

Far from it. Their modules look nice, but feature-wise, they're behind the curve. Most notably, they're the only developer who decided to make a frontline two-seater without making an AI crewmember an integral part of their plan. This approach works for trainers, but that's because the second seat in those is for the instructor, whose main job is to teach the guy in front to fly the plane. In the Mudhen, the backseater is there precisely because you want one guy flying and the other handling the weapons. The WSO is an integral part of any real Mudhen crew. And despite that glaring omission, it's still better than the poor MiG-19, still unfinished in several areas, or the constantly under repair Harrier. If you want quality, look no further than Heatblur. They might be overdoing it with their dolled-up UI (really wish they stopped wasting time on bells and whistles), but the planes themselves are second to none. The AI backseater might not be the brightest bulb, but he's genuinely useful.2 points

I definitely understand why ED wants to encrypt things, and I don't think the encryption itself is bad or anything. It makes it easier for ED to protect their products and prevent them from being snatched up and used in other games or anything like that. I just really hope making the model viewer work with the encrypted files is a priority as well. I can't remember if I mentioned it here or in another thread, but I would love if there was a way to use a tool like Substance Painter too. I imagine that could help speed the painting process up by a ton, assuming it works the way I imagine it does. Unfortunately, since I don't have a way to really use it with DCS or Il-2's models, I've never had an excuse to really get it and try it out for skin creation. But if I could just paint on the actual 3D model and not have to play the "Let's line up this straight line that's rendered slightly differently between these two different texture files" ever again, I certainly wouldn't be mad about it.2 points

And for many others, how "competitive" a new module is has zero impact on our purchase decision. I for one find Soviet aviation incredibly fascinating: what's going on in the designers' minds is so completely different from Western designs it leads to completely different solutions to sometimes the same sometimes different problems because of completely different doctrines. I think it's very promising how active people are in this subforum since "pre-purchase" dropped and I hope it will sell so well ED will have $-signs in their eyes and make many more RedFor modules!2 points

Honestly, in my opinion, the MiG-29 9.12A is a serious threat in an ’80s Cold War setting. It outperforms the F-16A both BVR and WVR, holds its own against the F-15A at range, and beats it in a dogfight. The F-14A with AIM-54s is a bit of a problem at distance, but up close, the MiG has the advantage. I mean, with the helmet sight, IRST, and R-73 combo, it dominates WVR against pretty much everything. I wouldn’t call it anything less than a top-tier threat for that era. Sure, going up against a 2007 F/A-18C with datalink and 10 AIM-120C-5s is a different story but in the ’80s Cold War context, this thing is one of the deadliest in the sky. I’m really excited for the MiG-29. I hope it sells well and opens the door to more Cold War jets from both sides—MiG-23, Su-27, F-15A, F-16A, Su-17M4.2 points

I guess we will need to wait for the EF2000, then the next F4, then another secret project, then another F4, and maybe then we will get the A6 AI, and then another 10 years for the A6E. Heatblur likes to add aircraft in front of the A6E2 points

@Zabuzard Thank you for answer and the the tips, especially on how to use Laydown mode "blind". Regarding Dive Laydown, it was user error. I tested it on Caucasus and on Nevada and works fine, requiring a little bit of a rollercoaster maneuver to bring the aircraft at level before bombing, but it's ok. Regarding Toss Modes, I have to test it. I was testing LADD, I get a release at the top of the climb (see TacView file attached), but still, I don't get any pull up cues. I'll have to test it further, setting it up manually. This particular mode is a mix of offset and loft modes and I believe that neither mode in the bombing computer can be used with to calculate the timers needed. As a side note, one can see that the 60/70's Cold War era was pretty crazy. On one hand you have this massive carpet bombing modes, legacy of WWII, on the other hand, the most creative loft and toss modes to deliver nuclear payloads. Crazy times. And, in the mix, you have the F-4E, which truly was the F-35 of its time: lots of sensors, a advanced computer with a multitude of employment modes in a especially capable, hugely versatile airframe.
