That's why you should land into the wind, not with strong crosswind.
You're not doing anything wrong, and it's not a bug. HUD shows you a flight path, and this is it with strong cross wind.

When should I call "Ball"? I do it when IFLOLS pop up, but probably it's to early call?
Didn't noticed, today I successfully deployed over 10 of them. Remember, that they are vulnerable fot wind and even with LASTE wind correction, with strong wind, they might miss.
Never noticed any change in SAMs behaviour or range with it. Also watched some tests on YT and there was difference between on/off ECM.
Blinking controls telling ECM is working is not enough for me.
As Stearmandriver said - it was exactly EG. You should fly that way, you don't need to idle to catch the wires, and moment you touch the deck go mil power. If you needed to pull throttle to idle to catch the wire it wasn't a good approach.
