Did anyone else notice problems with ILS lately? Or is it just me? Lately I can't receive any ILS guidance more often than not. Last occurrence in Ramat David. ATC isn't answering either. I had that problem on different aircraft and different maps. There's always the possibility I did something wrong of course, but I doubt that I can't do it in any aircraft anymore.

I know, I just wanted to get ahead of the people that expect some kind of wonders from the Moza Motors. You know, because of the fancy marketing pictures they put out.

Advice Required: Can I update this rig for a smooth VR experience?
Hiob replied to nachinus's topic in Virtual Reality
Correct. Only problem is, that can change multiple times in a session, depending on the scenery and mission. However it is save to say, that you will be GPU bottlenecked more frequently if you want some eye candy. But I think it is reasonable in most cases and in yours in particular to go GPU first. -
Not when you want to use it to do dogfights with the likes of a Viper and if you actually want the full 9Nm you paid for. If it is mainly aimed at the folks that fly MSFS (which it probably is, considering the numbers) - they will most likely be fine. Not much Gs there….

Have you decided on an upgrade path? -
Who claims it should happen quickly per se? It depends on the actual amps drawn. Which depends on the settings and force applied. See, with the Rhino software you get very detailed reporting on the electrical side of things (amps/voltage per motor and for the PSU) and the temperature (that is for the motor driver actually, not the motor). Having done extensive stress tests with the rhino and that kind of telemetry, I have a pretty clear picture about the energy/heat involved and how fast it can build up, given the right circumstances. That‘s why I said, that in a lot of usual use-cases the heat will build up won’t be a practical issue most likely. However, apart from the unknown efficiency of the motors (which can’t be more than 5% better than any other electric motor if we are VERY generous. But most likely is zero), everything regarding cooling is at a disadvantage for the Moza by obvious design. There are no vents for air exchange whatsoever, there is no active cooling and the motors aren’t thermally connected to the case. So it is reasonable to assume that it can‘t do better regarding temperatures than the Rhino or FFBeast, no? Also the amp-throtteling isn‘t on/off but gradual (if it is done in similar fashion to the other devices). So casual users might not even notice it that much.

Buyers Bias. Who wants to spend 500 bucks and immediately start poking for issues. (That may not even affect them) Give it a bit more time. Eventually the pros and cons will be reported by actual users.

In VR you need to adjust the IPD in DCS to scale the world. (I assume that includes the moon)
-
As I said above, you can see from the pictures (from Jabbers Video) that the motors are not thermally connected to the base in any meaningful way. They are surrounded by a nice isolating cushion of air that doesn’t move. When the case starts to warm up in a meaningful way, the motors will already be heat soaked. I don’t think the Moza will actually overheat. I assume it will throttle down the Amps when a threshold temp is reached, just like the others. For most cases, like casually flying around in MSFS or flying Helicopters in DCS. Heat won’t be a problem most likely. The rubber hits the road when you start dogfighting in DCS e.g….. that‘s when FFB devices really start pulling power from the PSU. Power that is almost completely converted into heat.
-
Sorry, I quoted the wrong guy. I was answering to the suggestion that their is no significant heat up. Which is of course nonsense. For the same amount of power output the Moza will inevitable produce the same amount of heat*. That you can't feel it on the outside right away, only means that the thermal conductivity between motor and case is poor. Which is bad for cooling btw. (*perhaps 5% less if the motors are miraculously more efficient than any other dc-motor)
-
It's a matter of the amount of force and the time you apply it for. From just casually flying around the stick won't heat up in a meaningful way. Neither does the Rhino or the FFBeast. That does change quickly though, when you apply the maximum force (9Nm) in this case for a prolonged period of time repeatedly. E.g. pulling max G in an F-16 in a downwards spiral.* The motors (and motor drivers) WILL heat up. That is inevitable. *Of course it depends on your settings and which effects you really use. A better way to put it is, the amount of energy that is put into the system and therefore converted into heat, depends on the amount of force you apply and the time you apply it.

Fastest way to backup all of my control profiles?
Hiob replied to HoneyBadger's topic in DCS World Tutorial & Help Requests
Copying the savegames folder is indeed the easiest and fastest way to make a backup of all DCS settings. However. With a fresh windows install, your usb devices will most likely have assigned differend IDs by windows. The controls setups are bound to a certain device ID, so in order to make them work again, you need to rename the config files to the new IDs then. -
No, the laws of thermodynamics apply to all motors. When they produce the same torque as the Rhino e.g. they will produce roughly the same waste heat. And seriously, the motors don’t look exactly high-tech. Just for the lols, compare their early marketing pictures with the open case picture. The motors aren’t even connected in a meaningful way to the case…. So it is completely irrelevant for cooling that it is from metal.
-
Doesn’t look good to me on first sight tbh….. Apart from the kind of trashy gimbal (throwing around a motor), the absence of active cooling will become a problem imho.

Advice Required: Can I update this rig for a smooth VR experience?

Apart from the 7000er X3Ds, it‘s the best gaming cpu you could get. The cache really works on games and VR particularly. Don’t take my word for it, just look in the interwebs for performance/benchmark tables. It‘s not soo easy in your case, since you detailed that you want to upgrade with VR in mind. I would estimate the CPU frametime gaines you can achieve about 20 to 25% (based on my back to back testing with a 5900X and 5800x3d. However, that doesn’t help you much when you are GPU limited, which in most non-VR cases you will definitely be. Unfortunately your GPU is not the most powerful either, Actually I would place it even lower than the 5800x. For VR - I‘d say either one needs an upgrade……. Sorry if that isn’t really helpful. All I can say is. Personally I would definitely go for the GPU upgrade first. I run the 5900x (yeah I choose that ultimately over the 5800X3D for different reasons) which for all practical DCS related purposes has the same performance as your 5800x. And I upgraded to a 4090 later. (1080ti -> 3080 -> 4090). Which was certainly the most meaningful performance upgrade for DCS. I‘m still GPU bound 99% of times but DCS looks gorgeous on highest settings. HOWEVER, and that’s the caveat - I don’t play VR (much). last but not least, a GPU upgrade will definitely benefit you. At least everything will look nicer for the same fps (should you be CPU limited) And other than the CPU, you can carry the GPU over if you eventually make platform upgrade to AM5. -

I would say, the most limiting factor here is still the 3060 GPU, followed by the 5800 non X3D. Therefore I would (if saving up for a real platform upgrade isn't an option) first upgrade the GPU to a 3080/3090 or 4080 and then upgrade the CPU to a 5800X3D. Both will give meaningful gains, depending on the exact situation your in. Edit: Regardless of the GPU you eventually choose. Upgrading to a 5800X3D is dirt cheap, compared to throw out Mobo and Ram on top for a jump to 7XXX. And a 5800X3D can bring up a 4090 to speed. Edit2: In VR you will hit a CPU bottleneck faster than in pancake, so normally I would probably start with an CPU upgrade. But your 5800 is at least okayish and your GPU is really a weak point. -
OV-10A Bronco mod by Split Air team.....and MORE

To err is human. We‘ve all been there. I had to rewrite half of my master thesis from memory few days before due date…. (25 y ago) -
Another possible solution could be to adjust the shoulder width and neck offset, which can be done in the server.lua and snapview.lua under savegames/config/views if I remember correctly.

Hi, I don't have any particular problem with this approach. But I get why some people like to move the camera a bit more forward. It can help to read the instruments clearly, without messing up the outside fov by the use of zoom. Maybe you can adjust the treshold a bit to, make it less sensitive in that case?

There are IT-forensic services that can recover data from failing drives. I‘m sure the community would help out with covering the costs. -

Graphics Settings Not Optimized for Smooth Gameplay
Hiob replied to Modismos's topic in Game Performance Bugs
Maybe it‘s not so impactful as I remembered. Back when I did my controlled benchmarks it was one of the more impactful settings - along with water and shadows. But that was two years ago or so….- 8 replies
