Why don't our warbirds cough and struggle on startup?
Magic Zach replied to Nealius's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
The revised 1954 (AN-01-60JE-1 to a different T.O. 1F-51D-1)and 1957 (T.O. 1F-51D-1) flight manuals. It is performed this way in A2A's P51 familiarization video. It is also said so in ED's own manual on pg. 127 Iirc this is a small way of prolonging the engine's life, by letting the engine rotate a few times and get oil around. Particularly when ground crew isn't available to rotate the prop by hand, like in our case. Sent from my SM-A715F using Tapatalk -

Even with magnetos off? Before giving us a chance to count this six blades before turning the mags on? Or not stall from the throttle being too retarded while cold (a feature btw Art-J, which even in a combat sim, in this particular sim I'd consider an important factor as immersion has always been a big selling point for DCS). Not any troubles at all when the engine is immediately firewalled 2 seconds after started? Sent from my SM-A715F using Tapatalk -

Here's the thing, he does have a point however. And I'd say these videos aren't even examples, jut exceptions. Engines do have some trouble on startup. In a general search you'd find roughly half do, in various ways. There is something wrong with our Merlins in DCS, they lack dynamics. You can not only consistently, without fail, blindfolded and muted start the engine first try, then immediately firewall the engine. It won't stall, damaged, strain, or any adverse effects. There is no need to have the throttle cracked to startup in DCS...it means nothing to do it. Irl, if you pull that throttle back too far you risk the engine stalling. Not so in DCS. Additionally the engine will try to fire off even if the magnetos are off. We can't even wait for six blades to go by, because even with the ignition off, the engine will try to fire. And when shutting down, it happens again. Even with mags off, as you creep the throttle forwards as the RPM falls below iirc roughly 1200, the engine will continue to sputter for a long time until you've opened the throttle wide. And if it's wide anyways, it'll still try to turn over with the mags and fuel cut. Merlins lack dynamics in DCS; They're too consistent Don't allow for some variants of the startup and shutdown procedures Don't change depending on conditions Invulnerable to negligence Sent from my SM-A715F using Tapatalk -
Wake turbulence is still overdone A quarter of these...or any at the close six or low six, wouldn't be possible in DCS. BIGNEWY said that there was a performance bump for wake turb planned, but it'd be disappointing if they don't change it in any other way when there is clearly something up. Bump. An option for the 100/150 grade fuel would be great, in particular for 2TAF. Sent from my SM-A715F using Tapatalk

[ALREADY REPORTED]SCENERY DESTRUCTION ZONE don't work in MP
Magic Zach replied to Webber's topic in Multiplayer Bugs
Bump! This would FANTASTIC if we could use this in multiplayer, such as for bombed-out cities. On Normandy it looks pretty good, but it hurts that it can't be used on multiplayer, so it's really a useless feature for now. This goes for barrage balloons as well -
The ground/sea damage model should become a priority

It is planned, after the new DM system comes to aircraft first, starting with WWII birds. PLANNED Sent from my SM-A715F using Tapatalk -

Magic Zach replied to WelshZeCorgi's topic in General Bugs
Not the case. Drop your gear in a 51 and you'll see your wheels are spinning. I agree with the guy above though, seems like it's correlated with ground speed Sent from my SM-A715F using Tapatalk -

On the contrary I think that's an improvement, and the other aircraft's navlights should follow suit. The lights can actually be seen in the dark now, and in the distance like in reality Sent from my SM-A715F using Tapatalk

known P-51 cooling system not workin properly
Magic Zach replied to KenobiOrder's topic in Bugs and Problems
Genuinely curious, do you have an sources on some document/recollection/story for that? -
I'll also add that exterior lighting visibility is now inconsistently effective over long distance between aircraft. The f18s lights aren't as visible over distance like the P51s. As in, the 51 still uses the old exterior lighting method Sent from my SM-A715F using Tapatalk

I think the Channel map was made with a BoB planeset in mind in the future. That's my only rational for it, as well as the option to have the map go from the 30s to '45. Sent from my SM-A715F using Tapatalk

Future of DCS Video & Hawker Typhoon
Magic Zach replied to Krupi's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
+1 I get that some warbirds may be more challenging that others, but I do recall somewhere that WWII aircraft were some of the most profitable modules ED sells (so please by all means make more for us, hehehe), so I'd imagine there could be some leeway to push through some muck to get to a certain aircraft (like a Typhoon). If aircraft are going to be chosen most largely by what's the easiest and most available, it's a bit underwhelming, as it throws the idea of a complete and cohesive planeset of an era under the rug. I love DCS aircraft, and I love the finished state quality, but having a good planeset and plane-to-map/theater cohesion is something I also value in a historical aircraft sim as well. OP, what video are you referring to? Sent from my SM-A715F using Tapatalk -
I'd much rather we dont get any new aircraft from either different time periods or theaters/fronts unless there is a map planned for them to play in. Anyways, thanks Nineline Sent from my SM-A715F using Tapatalk

Well since this is turning from a request for a survey to just a feature request thread...
