  1. Yeah, I had an Aardvark F-14 poster when I was a kid. Also, the Colors and Markings books for modelers. I love this stuff. Yours looks really good man! Those reserve and not so popular squadrons have very nice liveries and history. I'm thinking of trying my hand at livery creation. It will probably be a train wreck! Lol
  2. Nice paints brother! Let me guess the fictional: 101 with the Aardvark stripe? Great points BTW!
  3. Here you go. User Files (digitalcombatsimulator.com)
  4. That would be cool. I did a deployment where CAT4 was down for like 90% of the time. It actually was stuck aft and could not move. Interesting thing in DCS from real life is that we don't always use all four CATS. Additionally, I'd like to see some wires stripped as well. There aren't always 4 wires either! But maybe I'm just hopeful!
  5. Or to paraphrase slightly, some of us train like we fight, others of us fly poor BFM... :music_whistling: Not getting back to the boat because of flap/slat lockout sounds like a case of "dead" to me. I suggest unless people have something substantial to add, these threads get locked and we move on. Exactly!
  6. I concur!
  7. Well that was a real manly comment. I almost expected that given the fact that I gave you an apology to which you were really not owed and totally ignored. My contribution to de-escalation failed! Like I said, I'm here for you. We can go in any direction that makes you feel better! You are one of those that hates to be challenged. It's cool! Just don't be so sensitive about it. Don't post in forums if you don't like what others have to say. And anyone can deny some stuff, that doesn't make it right! There's also that lovely part about proof IRT refuting anything! The thing is, what I said was valid IRT the F-14. I didn't make it up! Your idea of AI F-14D's was/is a pipe dream that, while noble, had no direction other than to serve up more request for it. There's a difference mate! Take it light, but take it!
  8. Nothing I said got refuted. You should really look the word up BEFORE you use it mate. The problem at hand is that you didn't like what I said and it somehow got under your skin. That's what we call in the Navy a "you" problem! Take it however you want to take it bro! I even told you that I wasn't attacking you. I guess you managed to miss that part too along with the humor. Should I put it in bold caps for you? Try this on for size. Your F-14D compromise idea was about as ill-informed and as useless as ever. Save face? That's how you took it? I don't need to! Lol I tried being the bigger man (notice the apology) but since it seems that you are VERY SENSITIVE, I'll leave you be. If you want to have a grown man conversation, I'm here for you bro! Yeah if you say so!
  9. Great work Reflected! Almost everything I saw while growing up near Oceana, Thank you!

  11. Don't get all bent out of shape! I only added and subtracted or at the very least, set you on a different thinking path. I also never stated that you said anything (notice the ? mark)! If that is a source of discomfort for you, I apologize. Btw, this isn't war! Your "part of the solution/problem comment was well, let me just say, it's not that serious! There is no problem. But yours wasn't a solution either! You even managed to ignore the humor in my post! My last quoted line by you was born out of all the conversations (ad nauseum) about the F-14D and not necessarily aimed at you! C'mon bro! I'll admit, I'm a bit blunt. But seriously, for conversations sake, don't assume anything is an attack on you because it's not. I love this stuff just like you do. We are both just contributors to the conversation is all!
  12. You do realize that no Air Wing flew with mixed bag tomcat squadrons? F-14D's didn't serve in an Air Wing with -A's or -B's. There were only 4 Fleet F-14D squadrons and one of those reverted back to the F-14B. And what would flying alongside an F-14D really accomplish besides more request for it? As far as accurate liveries, that's not happening any time soon. A -B with -D markings doesn't make it so. And getting accurate air wings together with what we have now is a no-go. I mean, we have an E-2D AI but that platform was not online when the Tomcat was. So there's that! We also need an AI Prowler and SH-3H Sea Kings. The S-3 AI could use an overhaul as well. The AI A-6 serves purpose as a tanker and compliments that era along with the Forrestal class. As far as AI F-14's, I think its pretty much covered. I'm starting wonder what's up with all the chub for the F-14D! Historians may look back on this and think some people had a freaky thing going on with it! I love the Tomcat to but wow!
  13. Ok. I thought it was me! Hope there's a fix soon. Patiently waiting!
  14. This:thumbup: Say it louder please! The day that DCS goes the way of the arcade with fantasy stuff will be a tremendous let down. DCS itself is a fantasy. With that being said, I am not nor never will be a pilot but I've served so my connection to something with even a hint of realism and my everyday life speaks to me. Speaking for myself, the only reason I got into DCS is because of all the "realism" claims. I love studying the module and learning it. Knowing it came from a real life SME and not someone saying "oh this would be cool" is part of the appeal. There's a community for the arcade guys and then there's DCS. No need to mix the 2.
  15. So, I've noticed that when I trap in the -B, the wire holds me in place until I throttle back. In the -A, the arresting gear spits me out and I have to hit the brakes. Has anyone else seen this?
  16. Only in the Marine Corps bro! Navy always keeps the color. As I said in another thread somewhere, ED nor any other Dev has never been too keen on paints. That's just a fact! The community has always made better ones IMO. This is something I agree with alongside @LanceCriminal86. The guys that make the packs are a lifeline and put many hours into their work for all of us, and for free. I think Ed or HB or whomever should put them on the payroll. I've been following Isoko since F-14X. I like BUNO's and the names of former crews on my jets. And MODEX numbers that make sense along with proper tail codes. Isoko, Swordsman Reflected and the others provide that. Maybe we as a community could invent a donationware site or a thread or something to give back to these guys to show support and appreciation. Just a thought! At the very least ED should provide a way that these repainters work can get into MP and such. Or hire these guys. That way, this community still gets what it needs and let's the devs concentrate on the "big parts". That's what's been happening anyway!
  17. In the 20+ years I served (Navy), we only had one color bird for every squadron onboard. Even in very colorful CAG 5 (well VFA-102 had 100 and 102 painted up but I think #102 was for the anniversary of that squadron). I did serve on an LHD and there were no colored birds at all. At sometime, somewhere between 2012 and 2017, the Navy was having some sort of paint problem and all were directed to dumb down the colors. The colors eventually came back. I think it all depends on leadership. Also, from what I understand from the airframe guys that paint them, they are only allowed to paint the birds so many times before it starts to disturb the low observable stealthily qualities of the jet or just the airframe itself. Can't remember which. But that's maybe for the newer jets like Rhino's and such. I've never worked with Tomcats but from what I've seen is the CAG and commanders birds had color, so that makes 2. It is wild to see how colors have changed since the 70's and 80's though.
  18. Boats! Haven't heard that in a while. What's up brother! Retired ABH here.
  19. That's an awesome list that I can get with!
  20. When it's initiated (by anyone that spots a problem i.e. the shooters or final checkers), the deck crew will cross their arms overhead: 1.Shuttle goes aft, launch bar pops up. 2.When confirmed a suspend or hangfire, the shooter or topside petty officer will give the "throttle back signal to the pilot. 3.The pilot throttles back on upon direction from the shooter or TSPO. The JBD goes down. 4.The shuttle goes home (the forward part of the CAT) 5.The aircraft is buffered aft to that the holdback bar can be released so that the green shirt can remove the bar. He or she holds it up to the pilot for confirmation. 6.The aircraft is then either sent to another CAT or sidelined (put out of the way for troubleshooting). There are cases when you get a suspend and the shooter will try to initiate it again. Sometimes it works, sometimes not. That's where #6 takes effect. It is all very complex and dynamic. The winds across the deck, final checks and mismatched settings all play a part. I may have missed something as it's been a couple of years since I retired but that's basically it! I hope I answered your question well!
  21. Now you're talking! If only we could change the font. But I wont hold my breath. The Dynamic fonts as they are right now just make me cringe.
  22. Yeah, it's a mess, I agree. I'd like to get a complete CVW-5 for 2 era's but that's just a dream I guess. Not to mention, we have only an E-2D that is totally out of line with any of the era's...
