I totally missed this. Ordered one after i read this. Thanks a lot for this thread, sir!

Best DCS module imo. ~2000 hours in the pit and no end in sight, will always be my favorite aircraft in DCS. For me it was more than worth the price and it would still be if i would've payed double the price, hell even triple the price. Compare that to an ordinary AAA title one pays 60€ for and finish it after 20 hours. I'm playing flight sims and countless other games since the early 90's and the DCS Hornet has clearly one of the best cost/performance ratio of all games i ever installed. Outstanding work with this bird by ED!

You know yesterday was April 1st? It's an April fool and nothing more

From wich period is the Mi-24 we're getting in DCS? 2005? No, afaik the Hind we're getting is from the 80's and there were no NVGs for the Hind. Also, the countries (except for Serbia) mentioned in your link are NATO members and are getting NVGs due to the NATO modernization program for new members (all payed by NATO fundings) and the NVG friendly cockpits are mostly installed by an israeli company named Elbit Systems. A lot of the modernisation work is contracted to ukrainian companies as well. Without that program, they'd propably be still flying without NVGs and these Hinds have nothing more in common with russian made hinds except for the airframe and engines. Their avionics are NATO standard now. And by that article, serbia is still waiting for the Mi-35 to be delivered - nothing beeing in use yet. In short terms, this is in no way related to this topic/the Mi-24 we're getting for DCS.

Not only NVGs, all the more modern items/functions should be tickable so we can have real late cold war scenarios with F16/F18. I'm not an expert on wich items were available during certain periods, but i doubt they had i.e. Link16 and JHMCS back then.

As long as server admins dont try to balance stuff by not disabling the unrealistic gimmicks. If one chooses the Hind (or any other less advanced aircraft in terms of NVG, Datalink, SATNAV etc.) for MP, he should stick with its disadvantages. But the tendency is that most servers dont care and let players (especially REDFOR) have the stuff they wouldnt have in the real thing. Best example is unrestricted SATNAV. Dont get me wrong, i´m playing REDFOR too, but i´m more than happy to deal with some the disadvantages that comes with it. And since there is no option to restrict the NVGs on the Mi-8, i dont think this will be an option for the Hind anyways.

Well then we should also get the latest Hornet helmet wich can use NVGs and JHMCS at the same time, Harpoons for the F-16 (implemented on Taiwans F-16s), full 9g capability on the hornet (Swiss hornets do have 9g airframes and no G-Limiter) as well as the IRIS-T IR-missile with over-the-shoulder capability for the Hornet (Switzerland, Finland and Spain evaluated them for their Hornets - the IRIS-T has installation compatibility with the AIM-9) and so on. And all these things are closer to reality than NVGs on the Hind-P. I wonder when the FF MiG-29 from the early 80s gets released, if people are begging for NVGs too so they have a chance in MP against the DCS F-16 and F/A-18 at night. Nah, it should be like it is in the real thing.

Damn you are right, just checked it. Thanks for the clarification.

I doubt we will see Marianas prior to the Hind (and its campaign) are entering early access...
-
If its not a thing in the real Hind, it shouldnt be in DCS as well. just my 2 cents.

Rather try "no reaction" in reaction to threat settings, works for me. With "evade fire" they will do exactly this, evade fire by terrain masking.

I could use some SIM Cockpit advice
VpR81 replied to wraith76's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
1K? Dollars (US - CAN - AUS?) or Euro? Tbh, that is a realy difficult task. AFAIK, the high quality SimRigs are mostly above 1K. I for myself use this one, but yet alone the standard config (Simracing) is 1050€ (with artificial leather its a bit cheaper) incl. VAT, shipping is another 80€ but i could pick it up as there is a local simracing store that offers them just a 10 minute drive from my home. Is made in europe, so Dollars are propably a bit more due to shipping and the additional flight sim mounts are another 250€. Quality is outstanding: https://www.rseat-europe.com/RSEAT-S1-Gaming-Seat/RSEAT-S1-Black-Frame-Alcantara-seat Take a look at Monstertech. I know those are even more expensive, but just to get an idea of a DIY solution. The ITEM notch 8 aluminium profiles used by Monstertech are easy to get and easy to put together. Just look what you need and build one of your own. Those profiles can be ordered in specific length (over here from 40mm to 6000mm), just tell them what you need and you will propably end up with 1/2 the price (when choosing black profiles) or even less (when choosing silver profiles). https://www.monster.tech/produkt-kategorie/flight/sim-rig-f/ And an example of an online shop that offers these profiles (not sure where you are, but those profiles should be available worldwide): https://www.myaluprofil.de/aluminiumprofil-80x80-leicht-nut-8-i-typ.html Good luck -
The official Hornet campaign was released when there werent any AIM-120s, guided bombs, or AG-missiles implemented. I cannot say it is a joke, as i realy enjoyed it at the time. A bit short yes, but to me it was fun and somehow challenging when learning the Hornet back then. But tbh, i do not think we will get another official campaign for free with the Hornet. Same for the Hind, i would love to see a "official" campaign for the Syria map, but since Caucasus is the only map each of us owns for sure and Syria is from a 3rd party developer, it will most likely take place in Caucasus. Still looking forward to it.

Realsimulator’s new HOTAS survey
VpR81 replied to Supmua's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Very interested in the F-16 throttle grip. Using a RSEAT simrig (accepts throttles with Warthog footprints) with additional DIY Monstertech style mounting system, so i'd be happy with both. Monstertech will propably come up with a specific baseplate anyways, but offering an adaptor for the F-35 throttle with Warthog footprints may propably be a good idea as it is the most common throttle out there and a lot of people already have warthog style mounts. Just one question. Are you allowed to tell us if the throttle will also be offered standalone w/o the F-35 stick, or will it only be available as complete HOTAS set? cheers -
F/A-18C Kneeboard Suite - Updated 31 October 2024

Thank you very much for your work. Absolutely great! Cheers -
Don't have the Warthog Throttle anymore, but i believe to remember both of your requests beeing only possible via Target GUI. But via Target GUI it definately works, the 3 Flaps positions as well as Idle/Cutoff on the throttle. cheers

Low level strike missions where terrain masking is necessary? In a dark night i find NVG's way more useful for that, as the JHMCS wont show you any mountains in your way.

24 Gb of DDR-3....will I see a problem?
VpR81 replied to Cheap_Trick's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
One of my friends runs DCS on an old 2600K with 24GB DDR3 RAM and with 1060 6GB at 1080p. He has decent fps and is not suffering any issues with his setup. As far as RAM and GPU goes you should be fine, as long as you're not looking to go with VR. cheers -
RS grips can be used with the Warthog base as well as with Virpil bases. However, the standard RS F-16 grip only has full functionality on the RS base. The F-16 collectors edition and the F-18 CGRH do have a bluetooth module installed and can be connected via BT for full functionality on both, the Virpil and Warthog base while using the base only for axis input and power supply. As long as you can ensure power supply (i.e. via battery pack), those can also be used standalone without any base (like a VR controller) as they also have a gyro sensor for axis input. I used the F-18 CGRH on a Warthog base and now on a Virpil T50 base. The base is only for power supply and axis input, while button input is done via BT. But there are only very few BT dongles that can provide a stable connection with the RS grips. I have the ASUS BT400 and never had any disconnects, runs like a charm.

Virpil WarBRD grip = B8 grip (F-4 Phantom II, F-5E Tiger II uvm.)
