I think DCS simplifies that, it just track objects that are alive under a certain distance. Last time I checked the maverick will lock a tank if under x nm and the crosshair is around it by a margin only when the unit is still "alive". It won't lock when it's destroyed. Did ED changed that? Just my 2 cents. I'm a family dad with an intensive work. If lucky I will have 25 min of play during weeks and maybe 2 hours on weekends... if lucky. The little time I have nowadays won't let me memorize startup procedure of new planes, the only ones I know how to start manually are the F18/F16/A10c/Av8b With that situation im all but helpful that the autostart option exist to let me play new modules for which I cannot keep up. I like realism, just I don't have the time right now to properly enjoy it, and I enjoy more flying that cold starting a plane, if a server force me to autostart a plane I cannot right now I simply won't join. We are missing tweaks and changes at the track logic implementation and overall MSI as well as some tweaks at the FM and loft bombimg modes. The plane is great as it is now, just need a last push to leave it as what it is, the best simulation of a hornet lot 20 ever made in a public product. Enviado desde mi ELE-L29 mediante Tapatalk

Just as reference, this in an old video showing a Flir maverick at 0.55 Another one in here As it can be seen, identification of targets is nearly imposible due to bad resolution, however tanks does stand as bright spots against the ground. I find the current version of our IR maverick lacking in that regard, is really difficult to find bright spots to lock into. I agree past version had too good resoulition and now is more realistic though.

Some more modern "Flaming Cliffs" modules
falcon_120 replied to Flogger23m's topic in DCS Core Wish List
As far as i like FF modules, i would indeed buy some lower fidelity FC3 style aircrafts, particularly something diffcult to have FF like a SU30 or a Rafale. Of course i want them to be high fidelity in terms of capacities; meaining no stupid FM or radar capacities, so a minimum research and SME support is needed. -
solved Waving the White Flag on the HP Reverb G2
falcon_120 replied to killerquagmire's topic in VR Bugs
Sorry to hear that, I went from an oculus rift s to a Reverb g2 and had zero problem with it, same smooth experience. Just throwing some crazy ideas around, have you tried different usb ports? Have you tried a powered USB hub to connect the reverb? I remember back when I received I had a problem with the USB port that I used for the rift S, that didn't like the reverb, changing to a different USB port solved the problem. Also as a last effort, try requesting another reverb from a different hw dealer while you RMA this one, who knows... Enviado desde mi ELE-L29 mediante Tapatalk -
Yes, my point was, they can be detected even when hovering, how far away is a different topic I agree. But current implementation in DCS is like, speed below certain threshold makes the helicopter invisible in RWS/TWS even if you are 5nm away. You can lock it in ACM though what is not very consistent i think but at least is something. Enviado desde mi ELE-L29 mediante Tapatalk

This is not how it works in real life. Aircraft radars are able to detect a hovering helo thanks to the distinctive signature the moving blades provides. Some months ago I watched a spanish interview in youtube of a spanish hornet pilot telling how they are able to detect wind turbines with their Apg65 and lock onto them. Another RL sample is during desert storm when a F15E picked a mi8 on boarding troops and munitions with its radar and slave it to the tgp to kill it with a gbu 10. FwIW I read this long ago so this last one could be not true. Enviado desde mi ELE-L29 mediante Tapatalk

correct as-is F-16 Look-Up Detection from low altitude
falcon_120 replied to Star57's topic in Bugs and Problems
Not an expert on radars, but i think this is actually realistic. At low altitude there is a lots of noise coming from the side lobes of the radar. Dont know how severe should it be of course, maybe it needs tweaking, but i love seen this is somehow considered. On the other hand, i hope this is true for all fighters not only high fdidelity ones. FC3 radars should follow the same principles. -
Radar perfomance after latest beta update
falcon_120 replied to Tinchus2009's topic in JF-17 Thunder
Haven't you already been told it's fixed internally? Some people here behave like a whinning 7 year old boy. Time for bed! Ffs cut the guys some slack, they've managed an amazing sim with little bugs from the first launch, and constantly solve bugs in a timely manner, otoh other developers have important bugs for months.... I'm in the same spot myself. My beloved 1080ti is starting to feel its age and barely keeps with my reverb g2. I'm so tempted to go down the 3080 ti road, but it's a pity not to wait just a tad more until the 40xx series launches. Luckily I've also recently be a dad of a beautiful 3 month old daughter that keeps me so busy right now, that I think I can perfectly wait some more months or even until 2023. Heck, even if the 40xx series turns out to be not so good or insanely overpriced, at least I'm sure the 3080 ti price will drop significantly, making worth the wait. The missile will keep flying to bandit last known position and will wake up there looking for targets. Use case being that you loose lock long enough to loose the radar track. Regards, Enviado desde mi ELE-L29 mediante Tapatalk

Actually i have most setting on Low, except for vis range on Medium, Textures on medium, water on medium and Clouds on standard. The rest is all Low (No MSAA). I have to live with that to play a fluid game -

Amazing change! Just managed to make it work, from a very quick test two good things: -Shimmering/flashing on loading screen is gone, which is great! -F16 free flight mission in Mariana Island, I was getting 30fps with ghosting, now I'm getting 45 but most important, the general fluidity is much better! I hope ED incorporates this natively along the way at some point PD: 1080 Ti and reverb G2 user. Enviado desde mi ELE-L29 mediante Tapatalk -

Sorry if already mentioned in any of the pages, used the search function with no luck. For step 1, I cannot find how to turn off SteamVR, basically when opening the windows mixed reality settings, I only see 4 tabs (environment, audio&speech, headset display and uninstall ) but not the Startup & desktop, none of them let me turn off the SteamVR option. Is there any other way to turn of SteamVR from launching when using DCS? Enviado desde mi ELE-L29 mediante Tapatalk -
Also wondering what will this sentence exactly imply? -Adjusted the radar look-down capability that factors in radar sidelobes What are the expected changes? @BIGNEWY any insights? Enviado desde mi ELE-L29 mediante Tapatalk

It would be nice, but I wonder how could that be implemented in a useful way. I imagine the current system where the list of possible target is always cluttered with hundred of buildings and other static objects near the place you are looking, and then I think the system would be a pain in the ass to use. In the end 99% of time you are trying to locate active units instead of building in DCS. Maybe enabling a totally different button for George when you want to look for static objects would be a good path. Enviado desde mi ELE-L29 mediante Tapatalk

Hang donuts and burgers for a snack. It's a us copter after all... UK apaches use it for tea, and Italian ones for pizzas. And.... I'm out of easy jokes for today, good night. Enviado desde mi ELE-L29 mediante Tapatalk

Any guide or link to open composite? I find flying on my 1080ti and g2 at 100% not so great so I need to tune it down a bit. Thanks! Enviado desde mi ELE-L29 mediante Tapatalk
