  1. I know this topic relates to the F-14, so please excuse me for saying that I'm having similar issues F-18 vs SU-27/MiG-29. Good to know I don't suck *that* bad....
  2. With the new AI pilots in 2.8, although, *ahem* 'I can hold my own....' , I'm having to work a bit harder for my wins. I don't mind that, I enjoy a good challenge. But I would like to know what the skill level of the AI pilot is/was, to get a better idea of how much more I need to practice, so that I'm not such an easy target when I go multi-player. Is this something that could be implemented easily? Thank you all at ED for providing such an amazing way to relax and be entertained. Much appreciated!
  3. I'm not the best, but not the worst either. "I can hold my own...." I have a pretty good idea at the merge what I'm up against. But I would like to know for sure...
  4. No. And so what exactly are you saying here? Here is what I would like.. I would like to see one... One. Single. Photo.... of an F-15E in a combat theater, crewed up, and loaded with live weapons...but no CFT's. That is all.
  5. Just curious if there was a way that a person can know post-fight what level of experience their AI Dogfight opponent is/was? That way if I am only smoking the 'novice' Flanker/Fulcrum drivers.. then I know I have some work to do. Any one know or @NineLine.. is that something we could get implemented in the future? Thanks for all that you fine people at ED do for us. Much appreciated!
  6. The radar/TDC switch (Second from the left) is a new on on me. Wish I had that. Mine just has the 'bowl with a nipple in it' for lack of a better description. I find it extremely sensitive and it takes careful manipulation to lock things up with it.. Not exactly the best thing to work with when trying to jink around and evade..
  7. I seen a documentary a while back... I believe it was "Blue Angels- A Year In the Life", and one example of the physical tests to be eligible to join the Blue Angels, is the stamina to maintain 40lbs of aft pull on the stick for a typical show duration. Were talking men with football player physiques, that appear to be at their peak of physical fitness, sweating like they're running a marathon in Death Valley in July.
  8. Understood. It makes more sense from perspective of other a/c that could be inbound for a straight in...
  9. Alot of the USAF crews training in the T-1/T-6/T-38, and a few of the Air Guard guys in the MC-12 (think militarized version of the King-Air 350) do this where I am. When contacting TWR, they request/tell them they are inbound on the ILS for RWY 13, (currently a closed RWY) w/ a circling approach to RWY 17R for the option. The tower typically grants their request...and this is the part I get confused about... the tower will tell them to execute their "circling approach to the 'NW' for RWY 17R...cleared for the option'. Why is it for the NW and not by North as it is conducted?
  10. Right?! I knew nothing of DCS until Thanksgiving of 2018. My co-workers and I had to work the Thanksgiving holiday, and one of them brought his entire set-up to work. 40in TV, rig, VR, the whole package. Coming from playing 'Aero Elite' on PS2... I was in absolute awe. From that time, I have slowly acquired a rig that can manage DCS, with a Nvidia GTX 970 GPU. I have not been able to upgrade because, if you recall, during the whole COVID event, prices of anything CPU related skyrocketed...even the prices of 1080ti's went completely stupid. I'll get there eventually... but at the moment, I'm just happy to be here and can play something that is a bit more realistic than 'Aero Elite'.
  11. T-38C but still J-85:
  12. Speaking of cruel call-signs, I took some pics for a Navy Legacy Hornet driver a few years ago w/ last name 'Pack'.... his call-sign? 'Piddle'....for 'Piddle Pack'
  13. Literally....the only time the conformals come off the Strike is for maintenance purposes. Even the official USAF Strike Eagle Demo performances were done with CFT's installed. No reason to make them removable. Date of photo: 24 May 2008
  14. +1 on the Sunday Supplement! Thanks for sharing that!
  15. I'm more of a modern jet guy and even I'm looking forward to seeing the Corsair..
  16. Any updates to this? I just switched phones and lost the files, so I had to come back and re-download... Thought maybe I would ask and see if any chance we could get an update? I also prefer the 'Master Caution'~ "Deedle-Deedle" as a stand alone as well if possible. Using an Android OS, Im unable to find a way to trim down the audio to just that. Update: I was able to find the 'Deedle-Deedle' as a stand alone. What would be cool is to have the Viper stuff available as well!
  17. I think it should be optional... just like the IFLOLS overlay. I'm currently playing on a 1040p 42in flat screen, with a 900 series GPU...(!!) For a point of reference, I'm still learning the switchology of the F-14 and because of the text on the side panels, (and this is absolutely NOT a complaint! ) I cant even find what I need without zooming in when IMC or at night. Alternatively though, I have opted to not use labels when going into the merge, so that when I do upgrade to VR, I'm hoping that eyeballing the badguy will be so much easier..
  18. A Strike Eagle driver once told me....and I'm paraphrasing here because its been several years since the conversation and pre-F-15EX announcement, but his take was that with current tactics considered, as well as the capabilities of the F-22/F-35, that if it ever came to the point of being in a Strike Eagle and going into the merge against a lethal air-to-air adversary...catastrophic failures have occurred at so many levels, that its almost inconceivable. In my 35 years of studying military aviation subjects, and 7 years as an aviation photographer, and living next one of the largest bases in the United States, I've seen exactly one clean Strike Eagle. They were inbound from Nellis, dropped into TIK for fuel, and were heading out to Robins AFB to go into Depot level MX. Removable conformals in DCS, would be completely unrealistic in my opinion....which then makes me question the whole point of DCS.
  19. Fantastic! Thanks so much!
  20. I'm actually stunned... Just... well.... WOW... I never had the opportunity to meet him, but over the last 35 years, I have read countless books, magazine articles, and watched numerous aviation documentaries that either were exclusively about him, or mentioned his exploits. Now....NOT hearing about him...will be strange... Man...this sucks.
  21. Thought I would share some of my Viper shots that I have accumulated over the years.... Here's TRIBE 11 and 12, a pair of Blk42 Vipers from the 138th Fighter Wing, Oklahoma Air National Guard, captured while recovering back to Tulsa International at the conclusion of an afternoon training sortie.
  22. Much thanks for all your time and talent N22YF! Much appreciated!
  23. I laughed my arse off... LOL
  24. Thanks for sharing! Always enjoy good reads from a 'in the cockpit' perspective. Cheers!
