Buzzles Posted June 21, 2015 Posted June 21, 2015 After watching the live stream, one of the things I'd like to get some more information on is environment shadowing. Some of the shadowing looked very much like baked on textures, which looked great from high up, but not good at all when Matt was flying the Su-27 around close to the ground on his way back to the airbase. I'm wondering if it is actually baked on art based on the satellite imagery, or if it is actually dynamic and changes with time of day and just looks low quality on the areas of terrain that are of a low resolution. I'm hoping it's not the former. Fancy trying Star Citizen? Click here!

Raven68 Posted June 21, 2015 Posted June 21, 2015 Hate I missed it. Father's day gathering was timed perfectly with the live stream. I noticed those black "burn marks" in the ground but the shadows don't look like that when close (see this post, last picture: http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=2419169&postcount=62), so it might be something else.

I'm hoping it's not the former. I noticed that as well. If it is dynamic, then it doesn't match the shadows of the trees, since their shadows stood out, compared to what appears to be shadows baked to the texture like you said. If shadows were truly dynamic, they would appear to be the same for the trees and the terrain, and blend in together nicely. What we saw in the stream didn't quite look like that... Would be nice to get some clarification on how that is handled in EDGE... Thanks for the info. Well, have to admit - it's really intriguing to see EDGE in action and to dissect bits and pieces we discover in videos, streams and screenshots. The price of "teasing" us with EDGE goodness while we don't have it is exactly that - a rather inquisitive user-base, waiting to have their turn as well. :) PC: AMD Ryzen 9 5950X | MSI Suprim GeForce 3090 TI | ASUS Prime X570-P | 128GB DDR4 3600 RAM | 2TB Samsung 870 EVO SSD | Win10 Pro 64bit Gear: HP Reverb G2 | JetPad FSE | VKB Gunfighter Pro Mk.III w/ MCG Ultimate VKBcontrollers.com

rcjonessnp175 Posted June 22, 2015 Posted June 22, 2015 High res? DCS is already "high res" I can run DCS at 4k if I so wish. That does not improve the quality of the image displayed in the DK2. The DK2 is limited in its hardware capabilities. Sell it, problem solved. DCSW2 WILL NOT greatly improve your experience with DK2. Dcs does not run at 4k with the rift trust me it's blocked. Dcs 2 will greatly enhance the experience in dk2 and cv1. Wait and see I7 4770k @ 4.6, sli 980 evga oc edition, ssdx2, Sony 55 inch edid hack nvidia 3dvision. Volair sim pit, DK2 Oculus Rift.

Aginor Posted June 22, 2015 Posted June 22, 2015 The shelters are pretty small. If you look at pictures you'll see that other aircraft also just fit in. IIRC Wags rolled in at an angle which is why he hit one of the lamps. Normally the Flanker should fit. DCSW weapons cheat sheet speed cheat sheet
Eddie Posted June 22, 2015 Posted June 22, 2015 Those shelters at Creech are designed for UAVs (Predator/Reaper) and not manned aircraft. They are supposed to be like that.
Devrim Posted June 22, 2015 Posted June 22, 2015 I wonder two points. 1) Can buildings (or big objects) be damaged partially or when get hit are they just glowing like current DCSW? 2) Has ground unit AI's awareness of shadow? For example, when under attack, will they just separate from each other and halt or will they try to hide in mountain's shadow? :) Thanks. Vivoune Posted June 22, 2015 Posted June 22, 2015 You can use NVIDIA DSR.., And dcs 2 wont make low Res panel in dk2 any better. Absolutely, the bottleneck is the Rift's resolution. If you look through glasses that aren't made for you you'll see everything blurry, the quality of what you're looking at is almost irrelevant if you can barely make up your hands. It's disappointing to see the final version of the Oculus Rift will only be 2160x1200, that's not even 1440p... [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
joebloggs Posted June 22, 2015 Posted June 22, 2015 (edited) You can use NVIDIA DSR.., And dcs 2 wont make low Res panel in dk2 any better. He didn't say is would make the low res panel any better. He said is what I've said that Dcs 2 will greatly enhance the experience in dk2. I own the rift and know when I slap it on my head with a game that has poor graphics that it shows in the Rift. With games that have much better graphics things look much better as you would expect. This tells me that DCS 2 will look better in the Rift on the NTTR map, because NTTR has much better graphics then DCS has right now. Edited June 22, 2015 by joebloggs
