tarracta Posted May 18, 2015 Posted May 18, 2015 (edited) NTTR need DCS World 2.0, but DCS World don`t need NTTR! So until ED get DCS World 2.0 ready, we will not see any new map! This was said months ago, as the release was scheduled for Christmas 2014 (lol). As they now need more and more time for the engine, they sholud have also enough time to complete NTTR simultaneously. After dozens of embarrassing delays I really expect that they are going to relase at least a final and complete product (means WITH NTTR) and not half measure and again 2-3 years waiting for the first map which uses EDGE features at all. As said a few postings above, I have huge understanding that bug fixing may take months and the last 20% of a project is taking everytime 50% of the whole project time. But I have no understanding for thinking of a release in 2014 and then discover in May 2015, that DCS has actually a multiplayer feature which must be integrated in DCS 2.0. Here, we're doing things like Gantt-charts and are completely planning all the things which have to be done before the project even starts. And then, you get time frames and mile stones which you can at least roughly comply with. Edited May 18, 2015 by tarracta

Torri Posted May 18, 2015 Posted May 18, 2015 (edited) Tromsø Norway map..? In this video, in the opening frames, you can see that it says Hakoya (Håkøya) and Hurtigruten Terminal. If you look at this link ( https://www.google.no/maps/place/H%C3%A5k%C3%B8ya,+Troms%C3%B8/@69.6542067,18.8674872,12z/data=!4m2!3m1!1s0x45c4c65d84fec00d:0xad9ef525f5fc0fac ) You will see that this is in Tromsø, Norway. Maybe a map under construction? :pilotfly: :EDIT: Suddenly realized that it looks like it's just being used as a placeholder/demonstrating map... Got my hopes up too early! Buzzles Posted May 18, 2015 Posted May 18, 2015 The fact ED are posting videos of their tools is a good sign. Generally means things are starting to get quite stable and mature, as internal tools are generally one of the last things to polish up. Couple it with the fact all other videos over the last 9 months or so are made in DCS 2.0/Edge, and some are featuring NTTR, plus from the closed beta testers we know that 2.0/Edge is in their hands, I suspect ED are on track for a summer/early Q3 release. Exciting times ahead. Fancy trying Star Citizen? Click here!

GeorgeLKMT Posted May 18, 2015 Posted May 18, 2015 He didn't. Wags had interview in PCPilot may/june issue and said nothing about release date there. What he did say was "we're projecting between march and june" 3 months ago and also "We hope to release DCS World 2 in the first half of 2015" as it stands in the first post of this thread. ■ L-39C/ZA Czech cockpit mod ■ My DCS skins ■
ED Team NineLine Posted May 18, 2015 ED Team Posted May 18, 2015 There is no firm release date, there is their best guestimate, but NOTHING set in stone, it will be ready when its ready. They hoped for the first part of this year, that doesnt mean it was promised, and doesnt mean issues cant arise. Forum Rules • My YouTube • My Discord - NineLine#0440• **How to Report a Bug**
Chivas Posted May 19, 2015 Posted May 19, 2015 Coding is a process, that's almost impossible to predict. You fix two bugs, and the new code that fixed the bugs creates another bug somewhere else. You just keep plugging along until you think you've fixed enough bugs to release it, or present it as a beta to the community to find further bugs that didn't rear their ugly heads on the in-house testers computers.

upupandaway Posted May 19, 2015 Posted May 19, 2015 (edited) Me! Me! Me! :D But seriously - thanks for showing off some slightly "under-the-hood" stuff. I only wish I´d speak Russian. Are those really tutorials for future modders or professional 3rd parties? (I guess I kinda know the answer already) I noticed the Hakoya island on the Norwegian coast is being showcased in one of the videos - could there be a connection to the vague announcement by Cobra/Leatherneck of an "oceany" and "cold" map in production for DCSW2? ED Team NineLine Posted May 19, 2015 ED Team Posted May 19, 2015 I can appreciate the demonstration, but what is the purpose since we are not privileged to the tools? Anyone can gain access to the tools if they met the qualification for the 3rd Party status for map making, so why not show some of what it takes and maybe people will be more inclined to say "Hey I can do that, I am going to make a go at it." I was thinking the same thing, but the prospect of adjusting hundreds of miles of coastline to match the ground texture might have an adverse effect (if I understand the video correctly). Well of course it would go both ways, people disappointed that the tools aren't out might look at this and say, yeah... that's really not for me. :) So perhaps that was the goal, to give people a better idea what it would take to create a map. Aginor Posted May 19, 2015 Posted May 19, 2015 Far from it. There are approximately 20 houses and only maybe 5 trees that are repeated over and over. So you only create the collission model once for each. DCSW weapons cheat sheet speed cheat sheet
