No signifant differences in performance. The rest is a question of your personal preferences. The are all a giant improvement compared to vanilla textures.

My biggest hope is barthek for now. His latest noise-texture is awesome. So I hope he achieves inspiration by starway and mustang and makes one single, almost perfect texture pack.

But im waiting for Starway to add rocks and so on.

Did I miss something. The DLC has the best rock I've ever seen! Anyways, what really is the most impressive is that everything fits perfectly together. And the fields look very real. My vote goes for starway, no question.

I like Mustangs buildings but I think Bartheks ground textures actually look way better than Mustang's mod.

well there is always the option to combine Mustangs building files into Barthek ground textures and use it as one mod...right?

I've not used Mustangs textures... but I love Bartheks texture at lower altitudes, the extra ground detail is stunning and I also prefer the (to come) winter look of Bartheks. However, I prefer Starways texture at higher altitudes and also, starways trees (although Barthek is redoing some of his) and starways buildings/roads/mountains. I love the look of Snowsnipers mountains at higher altitudes aswell.

Would be amazing if all three (4 if you include Mustang but like I said I haven't tried his yet) could get together and produce one amazing texture pack by mixing the best from each and adjust colours to match. Wishful thinking though :-)

There's no universally "best" though. For example some prefer Il-2 BOS-style heavy winter and they'll choose Barthek's set, but I'm in the group which accepts "warm" winter only, so I'll take Starway's or Mustangs textures in this case. Some prefer photo textures for mountains, even if they cause more or less ugly repetition effect, others will opt for hand-drawn textures which blend better, etc. etc...

It's better to keep them separated and use Uboat's terrain switcher mod.

I think Barthek is great for low altitude, Starway has the best forests and villages, but I personally think that Mustangs 104th is the best all round by quite a large margin in fact. I think it has the best general colour tone, the best blending and the best compromise to work well from all altitudes. Off course, some of Starways great earlier work is included in Mustangs mash up, so he deseves som credit for this as well. All in all, they are all good, but it depends how and when you want to use them.

Personally, I like that Starways textures don't have 2d buildings in them, I really don't like textures with that. I think his fields, trees, and mountains are fantastic too, but the generic grass texture around the map looks a little odd, especially if you're a chopper pilot.

I prefer Barthek's texture mod for Mountain, ground and trees.

And I prefer Starway's texture mod for villages and Cities.

So I just mix them up.

I don't know Mustangs 104th mod...

Where can I find it ?

I'm torn as well. I think Barthek's mountains are top-of-the-line (pun intended :)).

Mustang's looks just great all around, and Starway's retextured buildings are what literally sold it to me. If these guys were to combine their mods into one, it might be heavenly.

Then again, I think it's amazing that we have so much to choose from right now, giving the old map a whole lot of new polish. All of them (and many others) have given this community a lot, I can't thank them enough.

I'm sure if Mustang had wanted to make his mod available without having to register on the 104th forum, he would have.

Anyway, there are also installation instructions, updates and other interesting bits of information, so you should really find the individual threads/posts where the guys offer their mods, and closely follow the instructions, instead of just downloading and then potentially messing up your DCS installation -- this might not happen to you specifically, but will surely happen to some people, so it requires a lot less support from the mod authors when they keep everything nicely centralized.

Probably it is what mustang trying to prevent.

Official 104th has safeguards to prevent people from certain locations accessing forum and its content. I think it is the main reason to put mod there, instead of services like mediafire, which allow everyone download files.

I have a question concerning the use of the TGP pod with the texture mods. Yesterday I flew a mission with the A-10C and it was very difficult to find targets with the TGP looking on green fields.

So the question is, what mod has the least negative impact on the TGP or is there any tweaking?
