I expect a heart attack coming along with F-18 :D

I'm sure along the way we can expect some mini-heart attacks like this....

I hope that's their plan. It would suck if their highlight for the year would just be upgrading Caucasus. Not saying a lot of hard work hasn't been put on it. Well see I guess. Hope we can progress at a good pace now that Edge is out.

Releasing the upgrade would mean ushering in 2.5 which is huge in itself. It is the base to release the other maps that are in works.

Hola everyone,

A little update... today the Caucasus map for DCS World 2.5 had its terrain elevation resolution increased by an average of 400%. This has eliminated almost all sharp edges to the terrain; and it's added rolling hills, much more detailed ridges and mountain sides, and provided many new places to hide down low.

I'll try to post some images in the coming weeks.

Yes, this is still a FREE upgrade planned for later this year.

Thanks

Seems like a logical step to improve the old map in that way and thereby enhance its inherent potential. I´m really happy to hear this and of course I´m very curious to find out more about the details.

Big thumbs up

IIRC that is still lower than the high resolution parts of Nevada, but still great!

I just hope it doesn't break all missions/campaigns.

That's a good point. But, even if it does break missions, I'm still really excited and glad theatre dong it anyway. Updated maps are more important that backwards compatibility. While a bit of a pain, missions can be updated/rewritten if necessary.

Yeah I figured, since they're doing new mesh they can now attach inland water to the mesh instead of the old method of it all floating over a flat plane of water, sometimes hundreds of feet below ground level.

I agree from my point of view. I will be super happy to correct all my missions where it matters.

3rd party devs who have spent hundreds of hours for their campaigns might disagree though. They will have to fix their missions so their customers don't complain, but nobody will pay them for the additional hours the mission builders and the testers have to spend, to check the missions, change them, and test them again.

The better geometry is still worth it.

Even as it stands now, mission designers still have to tweak and re-save missions after every update.

However, w/ DCS 2.5 it's not the same Cacasus, it's pratically entirely new,

Elevation Mesh Resolution, Texture Resolutions, Buildings, Trees, Shaders, File Structure, Terrain Engine Version, etc. Everything is new.

Call it Caucasus 2.0, Caucasus HD, Caucasus Remastered.. It maybe the same region, but it will pretty much be an entirely new experience.

It's the price of software evolution, something created for a specific version will not continue to work indefinitely without support from the author of the content.

This goes for Missions, Terrain Conversion/Texture Packs, Liveries, 3d Models, and other Mods.

the DCS World Engine is constantly evolving, one cannot simply make a pc of Content, then walk away expecting it to work w/o supporting it through those changes.

is the crimean peninsula going to be included in the "remastering" of the black sea map?

If you want to talk to anyone about anything personal, send it to their PM box. Interpersonal drama and ad hominem rebuttal are things that do not belong on a thread viewed by the public.

One thing i have to point out... naming a thread.. "OK, so" is as useful as tits on a bull.

Well that sounds like really great news. Can't wait to see images.

So as a matter of interest, with that 400% increase in terrain resolution, will that equate to the sort of terrain resolution we currently have in Nevada, is better than Nevada, or still lower??

Take a look at the current map mesh around Min. Vody. We plan that res for the entire map.

Thanks

Sorry, but certainly not. This is a huge UPDATE to the current map. It's not a map expansion, which would be far out of scope.

Thank you! I don't think we could handle another task slipping in and possibly push the date out for 2.5 release.

How will not have the crimean. Would not it be better to exclude that part of the map?

That's terrain elevation resolution being increased 400%, aka the geometry detail.

Not the texture resolution (although that's been done too).

Looking foward to this though over some of the other modules!
