:O what is going on here, a post thanking ED for hard work posted directed after a eagerly awaited module was delayed until god knows when.........

BUT my pitchfork is sharpened, and I want to rant, I’ve paid for this, and I don’t care about the fact there’s a major pandemic currently ongoing, and the fact that just because the carrier doesn’t work right in multiplayer, I want to play it in multiplayer and then if it really doesn’t work, I want to complain that it won’t work, and shout why have they released it knowing it doesn’t work in multiplayer. ;) ;)

Although now I’ve stopped prating around, I also want to jump on here and thank the devs for all their hard work. DCS is the sim I’ve always dreamt off, to have so many full fidelity aircraft to choose from and learn, while having many different arenas to fly in is an absolute dream come true, and it is my no 1 choice when it comes to flight simulation. Like many others here, I’ve been using software from you guys since the Lomac days, and every day and month you continue to grow and improve our hobby. Thankyou.

Maybe cause i am also a software developer. I know what it means to crunch the final day before release. When there is that last sucker of a blocker bug which dont go away. When you have a perfect branch and the merge into master produce dozens of merge conflicts killing the release plan in the last 10 minutes before cheduled release.

I know how it feels. And cause of that a BIG THANK YOU from me. I really appriciate that the developer don't go the easy way and just delay it. I appriciate that they work trough the night to get it done. For us. For your community.

Sadly there are a lot childich impatient persons around but be sure that not everyone is like this and i hope there are enough persons wo acknowledge the effort you put into this module this night.

I wish you a good hunt and a well sleep after the crunch is over. I can wait until its done. Maybe tomorrow, maybe next week? I waited so long, i can wait a little bit longer.

This!

@Devs: Don't crunch too hard. I prefer to wait some more time instead of having people deprive of their sleep. Sleep deprived people don't work well anyways :)

We'll see it when it's done.

We can all wait a bit longer. Everyone is in lockdown anyway.

Good luck bug hunting!

“Everyone is in lockdown anyway”

God I wish, I would love to be able to stay at home and keep my family safe while getting the chance to fly everyday. Instead I’m stuck in work as normal, dealing with everyone who feels lockdown shouldn’t apply to them................:doh:

+1 to the OP

(delayed SC gives me time to build up a few more credits with the missus, to get more DCS playtime :D)

This whole "trying to work at home while babysitting" thing, doesn't leave much time for DCS anyways..

Im confused: is this releasing on schedule?

Usually when such a post comes up, someone knows more than the others and I was right in my assumptions as we know today...

Agree with the general sentiments - you are doing your level best in difficult times and trying to get the carrier to a point where it is at a level you are happy to release it. To be honest, you're damned if you do and damned if you dont. I personally think you should take the time you need to get the carrier right and release it at that point. I personally thank you for bringing us the greatest of all sims and for the effort, dedication and commitment to the products. There is a pandemic on and you guys are busting your tails to try and get this out and for that you have my thanks :-)

This is your opinion and I will not say, you are wrong.

But I got a question for you:

Did you ever when you bought a TV or a bread or new tyres tell the guy at the counter: Thank your for selling this to me! Did you ever thank a policeman for doing his work, because his passion for rules made you 50 Euros shorter??

Have you ever emailed Bill Gates and thanked him for making such a great OS?

All those people - no matter how passionate they are about their work - do this for a living! Buying their stuff ususally is the best "Thank you" you can say. To me there is no further Thank you needed. But you can of course let them know, that you like and apreciate their work.

If those people taking my money are passionate about their job or not actually does not matter to me much. To me the end-result is the relevant thing. Id prefer having a working product from someone boring or unhappy with his job, than some broken item somebody "passionate" created.

To me it seems, that nowadays many try to add some "feeling" to their products like "lifestyle" or in this case "passionate", so they can charge you twice or at least to justify some shortcomings.

About the SC, Im actually not too happy about the delay. But what really is annoying is, that ED turn up at the last second and tell us "No, not today. Come back in two weeks!", even they knew a few days earlier, that they had problems. If the MP-situation isnt a foul excuse anyway.

And reminding somebody, what he said and promised some time ago is not "childish". If you like this to be done to you, it is your decision. But dont look down on people and call them "childish" for not thinking like you do.

By the way: whas the "effort you put into this module this night" sucessful? Seems not, since we still dont have the SC, do we?

BTW: Ill will now update my signaturer to show how much appreciation I had for DCS; maybe you can do this too, so we can in childs manner compare, who has shown more "Thanks" for ED.

Well I agree with the OP.

I'm an ex-developer and don't remember ever being thanked by the business that I worked for.

All the same, the odd "nice work" and similar were lovely little touches that occasionally popped up.

So, I'll say it again, "THANKS ED. I love DCS, please keep up the good work".

Sometimes i do. Last week i thanks thev worker in our local supermarket.

A year ago i think a similar way. But my currently employment is really good in give me the feeling "you do great work, your work is important for our business, we appriciate your efford, THANK YOU". And it feels so good and motivate so much. Since them i also try to finde nice words or at lest be polite and nice, even when i talking to support cause my internet crashed again.

Be nice and kind, respecting other peoples work. That is something that seems lost these days-

In special in those corona says which a really hard for everyone. Bringing extra effort on easter-weekend to release on time is something that should be mentioned.

To be honest, as a Developer Point of view. Transparency is the worst. 99,9% of all customers can't understand what we want them to tell.

To me this "Communication Problem" is natural behaviour. Its bussiness as usual that a few days before release the board is full of bugs. Even 10 BLocker Bugs menas nothing if they could fixxed them until release. Beeing a blocker dont meant it is hard to fix.

Giving this infos to customers make them think they understand what happens. Then thy start to ask questions, they start to give suggestions. then the Devs need to talk to them, need to explain why there ideas are bullshit. In my experienciese you loose 40-50% efficiency in bug fixxing when you need to talk to other people about what you do.

In my eyes ED react very good. They tell that there are problems, they tell that they still aim on 15 but maybe it wont happen. And until there see a chance to release it on time they try there best. And when it dont happens, they take a depth breath, relaxe 1-2 days, and restart bugfixxing again.

And dont forget we talk about open beta branch and not stable. Its called open beta for a reason, even 99% of the community seems forget about that.

Thx for taking so much the time to answer my post.

You are right, that saying Thank you to someone might most likley up their motivation.

Actually Im now a bit uncertain about my position on the use of "Thank you"; I still tend to believe that a thank you is in order for something "voluntary, above average" and not for some service I pay for anyway; and ED is a business and even they tell you, they are all passionate about the topic, they still need to pay lots of bills and their personell.

But thinking about it, there are for sure many more cases, a Thank you is also used, then I thought of in the first place. But that also maybe have a cultural aspect or just out of courtesy reasons.

Anyway, if Kate Perederko were asked, which kind of Thank you (just the words or the cash for a sold module) she'd prefer, Im pretty sure, which way she would go....

About my last paragraph (which was a bit childish) I wanted just point out, that even I am ciritical about EDs doing sometime, still do cherish their work obviously. And I did not like being called childish.

Anyway, Im dont know nothing about software-developement but still I clearly can see, that lot of EDs-work just goes into keeping the outdated hull of the ship DCS running, while a much newer hull (mulitcore-support or a new graphics engine for example) were needed to accomondate all the new stuff coming to DCS. And until that is not resolved, things will most likely not get much better. Thats why I will not update my stable 2.5.5, so I still have a working platform I can go to, even without SC.

Anyway, Im looking forward to the SC, may it come tomorrow or only in 6 weeks time.

Respect what work? I mean we've got an idea, but we don't have the product or much in the way of pre-release media to judge. That's not to say I think it won't be good, but how do I know?

Besides, respect cuts both ways. Telling people on release day they're not getting what they paid for has clearly upset some people.

Totally in agreement, well said, Larkis. This is the ONLY way I would EVER get aboard a carrier, in a plane. So I have to wait a bit....been on the planet 6++ years....we have NEVER HAD IT SO GOOD (Harold Macmillan, British PM). My hats off the all Eagle Dynamics and their staff and MOD helpers.

Reality check, In the military I was due to go back home after assisting at big bombing that had happened, The big bird landed and some of us were recalled to duty, that's disappointment....my bags got home safe though lol. Man my wife had a LOT to say about that later

This is just a wait for a game IMHO
