Again, the main argument is about the fake bloom effect, not how much the lights actually bloom. It's 2021 and fake bloom orbs have no place here, especially since the engine can correctly produce a real bloom effect. The best way to deal with this is to remove the fake bloom completely, while slightly increasing the illumination radius and applying angular constraints (cones) for illumination. There are some examples among other modules, both from ED and third parties, that handle this much better than the Hornet does.

Absolutely and while they're at it, they can do the same with the meatball for those not using the 'popup' FLOLS (in VR). Same issue.

Exactly.

Here's an example of how it's done on maps, one of which is basically perfect (and I wish would be standard on all maps), the other looks like FSX.

Why does the F-16 not have the same bloom effect?

This.

The Hornet, with position lights moved one single increment from the off position - looks like a Christmas tree.

And please don't change the Viper to mimic the Hornet's lighting ED - please change the Hornet to mimic the Viper's lighting.

Cheers,

Yes - absolutely, we need to move away from the FSX orbs, they look dated, they're overexaggerated, they bleed through opaque surfaces and are visible when they shouldn't.

You're getting feedback, with proof its incorrect as is and we're right, its incorrect.  And then using a over exposed time-lapse photograph as your proof to meet your idea of correct?

If you truly do value the customer base, maybe listening more and not arbitrarily dismissing what we're saying, will help.

As I see it, ED simply doesnt want to fix it. It was once, but then immediately went back to the over-done lights. And as was pointed out, the Viper doesnt share them.

It really makes us wonder.

Thanks...

I've just seen this thread and really find it quite funny it says "correct as is." I'm also yet to see anyone try to defend the bloom or even say it's acceptable.

For me, it's way overdone and not realistic. It also doesn't appear to scale whatsoever as you zoom out in external view. The aircraft may get smaller, but the light bloom just stays the same, and eventually it all just melds together and makes a giant flying orb. Actually, the look of it at distances is my biggest issue.

Sort of baffling how this is considered "correct as is" given the amount of photographic evidence to the contrary. As for the ED photo provided, that is definitely not a good example... really surprised it's being stood up as a good example of photography, let alone an example of the lights themselves.

The "correct as is" tag is a little concerning.. As this indicates, that for some reason some folks believe the glowing orb nav lights look normal.

I've seen plenty of Hornets in real life (also during dusk and dawn conditions), but I've never seen any Hornet nav light glow like they do in DCS right now in VR

Maybe they look ok on a 2D screen (I wouldn't know), but in VR it's absolutely ridiculous.

@BIGNEWY; You've said it yourself in this thread, that in VR you see what I (we) mean.

Please reconsider to change the current nav lights bloom effect, as (at least for me) flying during night time in VR isn't fun with all these glowing orbs around me.

They do not, it looks like something I'd expect in a certain simulator from 2006; not something I'd expect from ED given their stellar work on the lighting used on the SoH map (seriously compare it to the other maps; the SoH is basically perfect, much more realistic looking, more natural blooming, scaling properly (not looking like giant opaque footballs), without resorting to oversized fake looking orbs, without compromising on range), if ED can pull something like that off, then surely we can do something on what is currently the flag ship module.

Even the lights before the lighting upgrade (without the bloom at all) were better IMO; the problem was getting them visible at longer ranges.

look how good the F-16 external lights look. basically every release after a certain time has lifelike external lights. EG. the JF-17, F-16 and P-47. It would be great to have that effect on the hornet.

VR Bloom is reported, I will see if I can chase it up in the morning.

thanks

Thanks for looking into this... but as many others on this thread have also mentioned, please don't take away the idea that this is only a problem in VR.  It is ABSOLUTELY a problem in 2D as well.

The first time I broke out on a night case 3 to the boat, I couldn't even figure out what was in front of me.  I mean it was a mess of multicolored glow that half obscured the boat.  It took like 15 seconds for me to understand it was a preceding Hornet.

Nav lights from more than about 10 feet away should be a point source of light, like a star in a clear sky.  Definitely not a fuzzy glowing orb like a full moon through a cirrus layer!

Furiz - your post is exactly what I mean about how it doesn't scale as you zoom in and out. The light just stays the same and engulfs the aircraft.

And if they're only going to investigate it in VR, well... it's missing the point. It is exactly the same problem on a standard display.

Plus they bleed through places they shouldn't, and the bloom is visible from angles where it shouldn't - this is another thing that the SoH map does exclusively well with its runway lights.
