I tried this and got the crash at second mission load (log file and dxdiag attached). Having logged out and in again I then looked at my AV (Bitdefender) and realised I hadn't updated the exceptions list when I moved DCS, so it was still pointing at the old location. I changed this, have gone back into DCS and managed to start this training mission 4 times in a row without issue. I have also attached the log file from the run that worked happily in case there are any clues

DxDiag.txt 89.43 kB · 0 downloads dcs-F14 crash.log 1.2 MB · 3 downloads

dcs.log 1.19 MB · 0 downloads

I did a diff of my crash log and yours, ignoring the differences in time stamps, usernames, and install folders. I've attached the common rows that we had.

Hard to say what would result in the crash, but these look a bit suspicious:

2021-04-27 18:28:44.020 ERROR VISUALIZER: ILV for cockpit 'F14B_Cockpit' not found
2021-04-27 18:28:44.770 ERROR COCKPITBASE: Cockpit: failed to init geometry, pointer was not found.
2021-04-27 18:28:45.090 WARNING LOG: 2 duplicate message(s) skipped.
2021-04-27 18:28:45.114 ERROR COCKPITBASE: Cockpit: Clickable - Wrong connector name PNT_MCB

I'll try your suggestion about the AV settings. I'm using different AV software though.

Now, this is getting really, really strange for me. Or with my system.....

Because of all the troube Im having with the second-mission-crash, I installed Stable and installed all modules again and left OpebBeta with only the basic CaucasusMap and my most important planes like A10/F14/F16/F18/FW190Dora.... Just to be able to check, if the problem still exists. Today it did several times.

Now this evening on Stable I witnessed some strange graphical glitches when doing Takeoffs with the Dora. Right after starting the mission the screen started to flicker. I then was able to "catch" such a frame, which is actually only one in a few seconds. See pic below.

At first I though my GPU (a new 6700XT) was the reason, but then I found out, that those glitches only happend in the second mission!!! I did this for over 5 times and always at the first mission after loading DCS it was ok, and upon hitting LShift+R they came back. Only once I had to hit LShift+R for a second time to get to the glitches! Again: this was on Stable!

Then I did two Hornet- and two Viper-Missons in Caucasus (takeoff or freeflight from IA-Missions). No glitches upon reloading the mission twice or more times.

But when I opened the Dora-Caucasus-Takeoff-mission in the ME and changed it for the Hornet and then for the Viper, those glitches also happened. But guess...... only in the second mission!

Also had some glitches on the Anton-Freeflight-mission but those were much rarer and much less noticable.

Could this be related to my system? As stated above my OpenBeta is about 1 month old and the Stable was installed two or three days ago, but the modules were all installed yesterday, where some files of OpenBeta were copied over. Still had to download some 60+GB.

My core-parts (MB, CPU and GPU) are all pretty new. Along DCS Ive been playing some MetroExodus and there I had now trouble at all.

In the next days, Ill will do some further testing with the Stable to confirm my findings.

Alrighty,

With the F/A-18... I select instant action, Caucasus, MIG-29 BFM, shoot down the MIG, watch him with padlock till he impacts the ground, Hit F3 and as the plane flies by I ESC and Exit the flight.  Next I select Nevada still in Instant Action (I have all the Terrains installed) and still with the F-18, MIG-29 BFM and click fly and it crashes.  Sometimes I'll close DCS if it doesn't crash, repeat the whole process and then it crashes on that second BFM flight.  It seems significant to fly for a bit before quitting and starting the next flight to get the crash to occur.  Please take a look at my logs and see if anything stands out.  THANK YOU!  I really want to help get to the bottom of this.  As a side note, I ran dxwebsetup.exe to make certain my DirectX is up to date and it is.  I only did this after I noticed the Sim requires DX11 and I have DX12 installed.  Thanks again everyone!

It's a legendary bug in the last versions we fought with for quite a few months....

... you're lucky to stumble upon it only recently. It was difficult to nail down by the devs, because not all players were affected equally.

Anyway, you might be on to something. 2.7 was supposed to fix the glitch for good, and so far it seems it did - but maybe the fix introduced the crashes?

OK thx.

Still very strange, that this behaves just like 'our' problem in 2.7.

And great, that this is not my GPU.

As a sidenote. Since the update to 2.7 I had 3 or 4 instances where I had a tiny flicker. Only one small part oft the screen (like a large leaf on the canopy) went black for a moment. But only a few times in a 5+ hours. So actually not a problem...

This crash bug is maybe antivirus depended. I excluded the entire Eagle Dynamics folder from antivirus protection ( i using built in Microsoft Defender in Windows 10 ) and i start the testing. So far no crash in DCS. Even in the Fullscreen mode. Even after Shift+R. No Crashes. Can this be a couse of all crashes in DCS after a 2.7 patch ?

I tried this few days ago when I was still experiencing crashes and it made no difference. Mind you every protection on the system was disabled both aftermarket and built in ones.

EDIT: just to mention this, since I made that page file change my game is yet to crash (3+ days and still going strong)

What pagefile-size would you recommand vor a 64GB-System? I tried 33554MB which did not help...

Sadly there is no right answer, I am still not sure why it seems to have helped me and not others. So far it seems that something is very wrong with the way game allocates and uses memory and if turning off DEP really fixes the issue as it seems for one user in the other thread it did, then this is beyond us to fix. This would also explain why for some it works fine and for some doesn't, every system is different when it comes to memory allocation.

I have the same experience. Since I changed the page file allocation I haven't had any crashes throughout several days of playing and many restarts - running with full screen enabled (though it also worked with full screen disabled).

If it hasn't fixed the problem, it seems to have at least circumvented it on my system.

Fingers crossed, but deleting AppData DCS Temp folder works for me! 🙂 Before I tried Alt-Tab like crazy, uninstall Nvidia drivers with DDU and messing around with Page file with no luck.

I loaded this instant action missions, fly for a few seconds and quit: Sptfire dogfight in Nevada, 109 dogfight in Normandy, F-16C free flight in Persian Gulf, and no problem.

And my system: 8700k, RTX3090 (466.11 Nvidia drivers), 32GB, Reverb G2 and Windows 10 2004.

Just wanted to add a short report that DCS just crashed on me after setting the pagefile to a fixed value. But I did have a couple of fly again sessions yesterday that didn't crash.

I´d realized that i´ve done that already yesterday and i think i did have some crashes after, but, i did it again (i only have DCS.openbeta folder) and so far so good. Thank you for your help.

For sure it will be fixed internally soon. My biggest issue/problem right now are the jumping clouds in VR.

Best regards,

Bruno.
