Linx Posted January 27, 2022 Posted January 27, 2022 Have you noticed any performance difference between the two ECM pods or is it purely cosmetical?
Kilo Posted January 28, 2022 Posted January 28, 2022 Haven't exactly experimented with the performance, but the long pod is heavier. Все буде добре
Northstar98 Posted January 28, 2022 Posted January 28, 2022 AFAIK, the difference IRL is the addition of a low band module, allowing it to target longer wavelength/lower frequency RADARs. RADAR frequency/wavelength/band isn't a thing in DCS (even as just a class), so I imagine the change is mostly cosmetic, besides the increased weight. Modules I own: F-14A/B, F-4E, Mi-24P, AJS 37, AV-8B N/A, F-5E-3, MiG-21bis, F-16CM, F/A-18C, Supercarrier, Mi-8MTV2, UH-1H, Mirage 2000C, FC3, MiG-15bis, Ka-50, A-10C (+ A-10C II), P-47D, P-51D, C-101, Yak-52, WWII Assets, CA, NS430, Hawk. Terrains I own: South Atlantic, Syria, The Channel, SoH/PG, Marianas. Blinky.ben Posted January 28, 2022 Posted January 28, 2022 (edited) @BIGNEWY @NineLine @Wags is someone able to provide some more information about the new implementation of the new ALQ-184 long version? What’s the difference within DCS between the two versions other then visual. Thank you. Edited January 28, 2022 by Blinky.ben
Hobel Posted January 28, 2022 Posted January 28, 2022 The first tests have shown that there are no differences. still. it said this year there is a greater focus on ECM. think times to come more and then you corresponding videos of Wags 2
Mr. Wilson Posted January 28, 2022 Posted January 28, 2022 I want to upset you even more... I tested it on the example of a battle with a new complex in the DCS S-200 SA-5 and as a result it became clear that the ECM does not help at all )) Short, long or without it, it will attack you the same way from 70-80 miles. I do not add the track file because it is very large. 1
JesseJames38 Posted January 28, 2022 Posted January 28, 2022 I had good Success of braking a lock multiple times from a mig-25. Even after the Mig launched a missile it broke lock from the aircraft. perhaps more tests need to happen with airborne radars

I do not add the track file because it is very large. This is not true of all units. The F-16's ECM is indeed functional and can provide SAM protection. I have not found any difference between the 184's yet though. This is not true it will lower SA-5 lock range significantly, its not a magic button that will just stop it from locking you at any range, as you come closer it becomes less and less effective. 2

For me in SA-2 test, missile firing range drop 20% for long pod compared to short. So I think there is a slight advantage of long one.

I think you set him a low level of intelligence. Write your exact loc and attack range data
AlexCaboose Posted January 28, 2022 Posted January 28, 2022 I did a whole bunch of testing. Although there seems to be no difference in burn through range, the Long variant seemed to consistently break locks more quickly, perhaps allowing you to stay in the threat range for longer. 1 476th vFG Website, 476th vFG Discord, 476th vFG Pipeline

Scofflaw Posted January 28, 2022 Posted January 28, 2022 When things like this are added, do they typically update the manual? I'm really not complaining here; I'm usually excited to see new features and toys - I just feel like unless Wags makes a video, we have to figure some of these things out for ourselves. I really appreciate the DCS community going out and testing these things. You guys are much more patient than I am. run come save me

I asked nineline about this last night on discord and he said they’re working on updating it as far as he knows. - Sonic - Posted January 29, 2022 Posted January 29, 2022 I took a flight a few days ago on Lima Kilo server...seem Long ECM pod also for me break lock more quickly and more effectively; two times a couple of MIG-25 have serious trouble to lock me also at 40-60 nm (more or less)
Mike5560 Posted January 29, 2022 Posted January 29, 2022 I would think the SA-2 would be a good unit test, it operates at a lower band even than the SA-5; E/F/G band vs H.

It doesn't, RADAR operating frequency isn't a thing in DCS (even as purely as a class) and you can treat all RADARs/ECM systems as being on single frequency.
