This is a bit like Christmas.  No, you can't open your presents yet!

Of course nothing is as good as the anticipation, but I am looking forward to new toys.  Won't make me a better pretend pilot, but I can pretend I'm a better pretend pilot by pretending my problems are all bugs.

Then two weeks go by and I can continue to amuse myself with the people asking for the next update, because nothing is ever enough!  🙂

So, carry on with your testing and let me know when Christmas comes, because I'll be off working on muscle memory one task at a time.  Only about sixteen thousand tasks left to master.  Oh, and version three of the sim pit, because I just ordered a new throttle.  I'll get the new seat when I'm a little closer.

I'm really really hoping we get some ground forces AI updates sooner rather than later, using any attack helicopters in DCS in any mission is getting pretty boring against the really bad ground AI, even the awesome Apache its become way to easy to kill them even with clever scripting, except for the sniper AK47 guy, he is a one man Rambo show 😉

yes it feels pretty much like  scripted detection when within a certain range.  ANY unit instantly turns the gun at you no matter what the conditions are and has pretty much god tier tracking, I can not believe that an old BTR with the type of optics and the lack of stabilizer it had could fire like that. while the (battlefield is in total  chaos)it seems like ground units can always instantly find any aircraft and lead it as if they were using a tracking radar . sadly this aspect of dcs is one of the most forgotten even the air AI seems to be "smarter"
{ground pounders suffer 😢}

This is probably on backburner. The problem is, to model realistic ground unit capabilities you'd have to introduce a lot of complexity to the algorithms. You need to account for gun stabilization (or lack thereof), speed, line of sight rate (how fast the aircraft moves across the sight, too fast and you can't pull enough lead) and several other factors. This is a complex task and they already have their hands full.

Supposed to be a horrible weekend here coming up, nothing but rain, so 2.9 with some F-15E JDAMS would be lovely.

And thank you in advance. :smoke:

I got the impression JDAM isn't quite there yet and TFR was the big feature for the F15E being added in the next patch?

I hear ya. Great fun as its been up until now, it'd be nice to have yet another arrow added to the SE's quiver and JDAM x lots would be fun to mess up a lot of different peoples' days in a single pass.

Update on Friday!! 😄

Update on Friday!! 😱

After nearly 35 years in IT I learned one thing, you never ever Ever eVeR EVER do an update before a weekend or holiday... EVER!

For a while ED was only doing updates on Wednesdays--at least it was my impression. Did I read a statement a couple of years ago that declared this? I have the feeling that I did, but maybe not.

Not that I want to upset everyone whoa like myself has been waiting excitedly on the coming 2.9 update, I have to say, every time I see an announcement that an update will come on Friday, I get a little knot in my stomach--probably because of IT-PTSD.

I just had to say this. I don't expect anyone to change anything, and ED is responsable enough to do what they think is best.

Thank you--breathing into my brown paper bag for now.

I fly home on the 19th, but given the complexity of the release I won't be shocked if it gets pushed out a little.  They're awful brave making a prediction two days in advance; around here good deeds get alpha-strikes!

Of course I half expect someone to knee-jerk the "Unable to duplicate and no track file included" label on this post...

Yep, wednesday is the usual plan but it's not written in stone. In what part of the world the 19th is friday anyway?
