If you download this particular mod and rename it from "bandit648_Weather_Mod_v2.0.zip" to "bandit648 Weather Mod v2.0.zip", OvGME will pick it up just fine.

Ok, never test this, good to know. But in my test, mod downloaded going in DCS core folder there were only three folders (FUI, missioneditor, Scripts) so nothing to rename 😉

Unless I misunderstood you now. He means the name of the zip needs a name, and that name needs to be identical to the first folder under the zip, then you have the various DCS folders under that one.

You misunderstood me 😉 In my test I donwloaded a zip mod going in DCS core, in this zip I have not one folder and sub folder in this one, my zip is juste names xxxx.zip and inside I have three folders FUI, MissionEdidor ans Scripts so you can change zip name OvGME will not see it, if I unzip in OvGME it is functional.

Yeah, that's the point. There needs to be one more folder in the zip which contains the DCS structure. And that folder must be named identical to the name of the zip.
Anyways, I always us the mod manager to make my mod packages. It's been years since I used OvGME. I use Open Mod Manager, OvGME's successor. And with that one it's easy to change things. It also handles unzipped structures.

I absolutely love it! 🥰

Two questions however:

You used some time acceleration for showcase, right? Or can we expect actual fast cloud movement with winds?

Does it properly sync in multiplayer? (Both/all parties need the mod of course)

@bandit648 Thank you so much.

I'm always pleasantly surprised by updates to this Weather Mod, but this video left me speechless. This will definitely be a MUST-HAVE, and from what I've seen, there's room for further improvements. Flying in these weather conditions is a real pleasure. Thanks again.

Wow! Picking my jaw! Frankly, I thought at first it was some kind of new sound system.

Great for cinematic at the very least. Must be fun chasing the clouds. Great also for immersion.

Don't be sorry, you have done great services to the DCS World and let the MSFS people jealous. 😛

I Fly, Therefore I Am.

Bandit648's Weather Mod and ATMOS-X should have been part of the core of DCS World!

@bandit648Looks outstanding! thank you for your precious work.

Do we need to use the ATMOS-X launcher? i ask this because i use the DCS Updater/Launcher GUI Utility from Skatezilla and i have no intentions to change (i can launch 2D/3D on the go).

Thank you in advance,

F.

Should this be added to the core?

Cracking job Bandit. Mighty clever. Especially the Northern Lights.

I’ll have to have another fiddle about. I use OvGME but a lot’s been reinstalled or messed about with so I’m bound to have a mess around to sort it out.

You can disable all Mods on OvGME (with Mods -> Disable -> All) and then perform a DCS Repair to delete any leftover file within the DCS program, that should clear every mod that is not based at /Saved Games/DCS/

I'll say it again! ED should contact this guy! This should be implemented in the Core, just like CH's Assets, so we don't need to use mod managers. Then the presets would be working over shared missions, campaigns, paid campaigns, multiplayer and what not!

Cheers!

sometimes silence says it all.

Bang on.

looking through the thread there’s a “it’s come to our attention but we’re busy” from about two years ago. It’s gotta be time to get busy knocking this in now surely? Give the fella credit.

Personally, I wouldn’t wanna upset someone that can, well, ya know, control the weather 😁.

It's "bittersweet" that you must do ED's job for them.  This looks amazing!
I've had your MOD installed from the beginning and look for updates after every patch release.
Thank you so so much!!!

Thank you all for the feedback. My goal with ATMOS-X is to make the "mod" more accessible to the community by making it easier to use. It also gives me a method to expand features that I can't do without modifying the core. One missing piece of the puzzle is to make it multiplayer compatible so it doesn't break IC. I plan to reach out to Eagle Dynamics to see if they are interested in pursuing this further with me.

I'll try to answer some questions...

Yes, most scenes in the video were "timelapse". Don't get me started on the wind simulation in this sim! Unfortunately it's not something I can do much about currently.

So one can manipulate the aurora borealis like the clouds? That's pretty neat. emoji1303.png

Yes, the aurora effects are fully customizable. When the aurora effect is turned on, cirrus clouds are disabled, but doesn't matter much since its a night time effect. It does have a slight performance cost, but not too bad.

You will need the ATMOS-X app to install and configure the settings, but you don't have to use it as a launcher. You can just open, change your desired weather settings, then launch DCS however you prefer. It has the option to disable the DCS Launcher so you can launch straight from ATMOS-X if you prefer.

OK, but will we still be able to change preset within DCS mission editor "the old way"? Having to exit and restart DCS every time I need to change weather would be not great (albeit I'll understand if It's needed anyway to enable your bespoke outside-of-core features).

Yes, the cloud presets will remain the same in the mission editor. The app adds the ability to choose what cirrus cloud and other effects that currently aren't in-game as well as generate a custom cloud and weather preset based on the entered ICAO code and METAR.
