DCS: Kola map by Orbx in Early Access available now!

1) That has been answered already even before the Early Access launch: Yes the map is getting lots more updates, textures, cities, airports etc.

2) The Green bubble on the picture from ORBX, basically the border area between Finland and Russia.

3) For any aircraft in particular? It's pretty normal, in EA for maps.

Don't worry, it takes 5 minutes max to place an aircraft of your liking on the map in the Mission Editor.

If you have no prior experience with the Mission Editor, search for "DCS Mission Editor tutorial" on YouTube, or if you prefer reading, the DCS manual (Program Files/Eagle Dynamics/DVS World/Doc ). Mission Editor is covered in the second half(!).

Two levels of detail measures. Light pink = high detail, darker pink = higher detail than the previous. This is common when dealing with satellite imagery for airports in xplane as an example. Higher detail closer to the airfield because that's where your altitude will be lower and the outer zone with a bit lower detail but in exchange a wider coverage, especially over cities and geographic features nearby.

This seems the case in my eyes, but I can be wrong.

Love the 90 meter ski jump.  Nice that it is not all sand.  Took 3 hours to download via steam and starlink.  FPS stayed at 120 in VR for me, but did have stutters which I don't get on other maps.

10 seconds. Click ac icon, select country, type, choose Player on difficulty list then Fly.

A few words about KOLA
It’s a superb card and I’m delighted to have bought it with my eyes closed.
I fly in VR and I can tell you that the graphics around the BODO airport are magnificent (well done ORBX) I get between 50/60 FPS or even 70 in the mountains but at the BODO airport barely 20 FPS so I hope that this card will do like the others and will be optimized later but in the meantime I like flying on KOLA.
PS: for me F10 (card) does not work on KOLA and I noticed that the seaside cries from the absence of waves.

Did you try to add some wind?

good question, but even without wind we see
the white foam gets closer to the coasts like on the marianas or
even Syria, but there is no foam effect on the Kola maps

Yep, good eye, it's not "cart", it should be "chart" (same root), and still in English that isn't necessarily used as a synonym of map. But it is in other languages.

I can't check but you should check your DCS > options > misc > F10 AWACS view. The restriction can also be forced in the mission itself or the mission from the server you're flying on. Last but not least check key binding for F10 map view or if it works on any other map.

Don't understand the issue about missions not provided with the terrain. I don't know of any other terrain that came with missions - although I suppose some modules had missions added for newer terrains.

You also don't need to go anywhere near the mission editor - just use the quick mission builder (CREATE FAST MISSION - on the main UI screen) for any type of flight with any aircraft you own. Takes only a minute or two, is very simple and can get you in the seat rapidly.

You can choose to start on the ramp, runway or air as usual, with or without enemies etc as well as what skill your enemies will have if you do want to fight. I always use this for checking out new modules I've bought or reacquainting myself with ones I've not flown for a while or to look at new terrain - I think it's one of the best features of the sim.

It's not like there is no options.  You could also create a fully fledged campaign with thousands of voice recordings.  It's not like there aren't workarounds.  But when you spend about an hour downloading your new terrain on launch day at peek rush hour, and after having DCS blocked in downloading for that period of time (as you cannot keep on flying while downloading), and you finally jump into the menu and want to check out the map... no, you can't, you first need to create a mission for it.

It's just not a good user experience.  It adds to frustrations like dealing with the same old bugs and jumping into modules that have been in early access for ages or that are, at the moment, hung in limbo with no real light at the end of the tunnel if you are ever going to get more out of your expensive purchase, or maps that have almost no use and you purchased at full price.

So, it's not Orbx "fault", it's not like there's no way around it... it's just another rough edge you need to sand before enjoying the game, and when this happens often and in increasing number of areas, it starts to eat away from the experience and the trust on the developers.  It also affects the model of relying on Early Access models at *almost* full price with the promise of improvements, so people start to get weary and suspicious and reluctant to jump into it, just in case it turns out to be another Razbam or Super Carrier fiasco.

So, again, yeah, there's ways around it, but it gives more things to complain about and it was an easy fix!  Just do EXACTLY like you posted, and create Fast Missions for 5 or 6 key modules.  That's all it took FOR THEM (or ED!) to do exactly what you mention and it would have avoided all the talk about that on here.

I'm probably missing something, but why is there no trial option for Kola? Especially since it's in EA?
