MRaza Posted March 13, 2017 Posted March 13, 2017 During a landing, what's the optimum landing speed? And when should you drop gears and flaps?
metzger Posted March 13, 2017 Posted March 13, 2017 During a landing, what's the optimum landing speed? And when should you drop gears and flaps? After the initial approach fix and before the final approach fix. Speed depends on the loadout but usually geardown below 200knots and landing flaps below 180. Touchdown really vary too much with the loadout but it is around 130. Sent from my Redmi 4 using Tapatalk [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Razor18 Posted March 13, 2017 Posted March 13, 2017 During a landing, what's the optimum landing speed? And when should you drop gears and flaps? Optimum landing speed is always the speed that gives you the green circle on the AoA indexer (active with the gear down only). Slow down as long you see the lower green arrow pointing up (meaning "increase AoA"), then somewhere around 120-130 knots the green circle will come up. Then add some thrust to keep from slowing more, especially when the upper arrow pointing down comes up, meaning "reduce AoA NOW". :)
Gliptal Posted March 13, 2017 Posted March 13, 2017 Keep in mind landing speed and approach speed are different values. You should keep the approach speed (140 to 160) up until moments before landing, unless you're doing fancy stuff.
Scaley Posted March 13, 2017 Posted March 13, 2017 During a landing, what's the optimum landing speed? And when should you drop gears and flaps? Final Turn 145kts + 2kts for each 1,000lbs over 30,000lbs aircraft weight Final Approach 130kts + 2 per 1,000lbs over 30,000 Touchdown 120kts + 2 per 1,000 over 30,000 For an overhead recovery gear and flaps down on the downwind leg. For a straight-in approach somewhere after 5nm out but before 2nm. Pocket Sized Posted March 14, 2017 Posted March 14, 2017 Ride the green circle all the way down to the runway on final. Once you get to 10 feet or so pull the nose up and ease back on the power until you touch down. My method for speed management is to play around and see what speed gives me the green circle in level flight, then just hold that speed. As long as you're within +30 or -10 knots you should be able to get on the ground in once piece. DCS modules are built up to a spec, not down to a schedule. sc_neo Posted March 19, 2017 Posted March 19, 2017 (edited) The divert page on the cdu shows that sweet arifieldinfo like TWR freqeuncy, runway heading etc for the 4 closest airfields. Is there a cdz page to look that info up for all the other waypoints or airfields in the mission waypoint database, or do we need to rely on kneeboard charts for that? Additionally i'd like to know: when i control the cdu via the ufc buttons and look at it in the mfcd, how can i switch between page 1 and 2? The cdu has that p1/p2 rocker, can't find something similar up at the ufc though. Would be really handy. Edited March 19, 2017 by sc_neo
Tominez Posted March 21, 2017 Posted March 21, 2017 Problems with A10C advance training qualification #5 - illumination flares employment Hello guys. Anyone can help ? There are no way to pass this qualification. I did it many time, succesully, but always classified "U". There should be a bug in the system. Anyone know how can I skip this an pass directly to the next qualification # 6?.......apologise for my pour english:(

AvgWhiteGuy Posted March 27, 2017 Posted March 27, 2017 Altitude & Airspeed info after missile strike After being hit by a missile or AAA fire and losing various systems, on some occasions I am left with no digital or analog information regarding my altitude or airspeed. On some occasions I can use the Radar Altimeter (AHCP) at low enough altitudes for approach but still have no idea of my present airspeed. Obviously the situation is further complicated at night when 'eyeballing' isn't reliable. Sometimes I can't tell if I'm flying or falling and don't want to give up much altitude to find out. If my airspeed is NOT available on my Airspeed Indicator (analog) or my HUD (digital), is there another cockpit location for this vital info? Gliptal Posted March 27, 2017 Posted March 27, 2017 You can sort of judge airspeed by using the analogue AoA indicator. 1
Pocket Sized Posted March 27, 2017 Posted March 27, 2017 You can sort of judge airspeed by using the analogue AoA indicator. Yep, landing AoA is when the needle is pointing at the 3 o'clock position. But if you lost the inverter you'd have to use the TLAR technique, something an old glider instructor taught me. It stands for "that looks about right" :D 1 DCS modules are built up to a spec, not down to a schedule. In order to utilize a system to your advantage, you must know how it works.
cthulhu68 Posted March 27, 2017 Posted March 27, 2017 I can't figure out how to change laser code on GBU 12's to match a drones laser code for instance. Looked through manual and DSMS profile pages but can't find spot to change it. Any one tried doing this before?
Andy1966 Posted March 27, 2017 Posted March 27, 2017 im pretty sure the laser code is set in the tgp (targeting pod display) in the control page We are Virtual Pilots, a growing International Squad of pilots, we fly Allies in WWII and Red Force in Korea and Modern combat. apolloace Posted March 27, 2017 Posted March 27, 2017 (edited) The laser codes are changed in the DSMS Inventory page, by selecting the LGB option. :) Edited March 27, 2017 by apolloace typo 2 Rig - I7-9700K/GIGABYTE Z390D/RTX-2080 SUPER/32-GB CORSAIR VENGEANCE RAM/1-TB SSD Mods - A10C / F18C / AV8B / Mig21 / Su33 / SC / F14B

Yurgon Posted March 28, 2017 Posted March 28, 2017 If my airspeed is NOT available on my Airspeed Indicator (analog) or my HUD (digital), is there another cockpit location for this vital info? AFAIK the A-10 only has one pitot tube for measuring airspeed: the tube that extends out of the right wingtip. If that's gone or damaged, the cockpit displays don't matter much. ;) Then again, I'm not sure whether the ground speed readout on the CDU POS INFO page uses a corrected airspeed or if it actually relies on GPS. Might be worth a try (as long as CDU and EGI are still available, obviously). I can't figure out how to change laser code on GBU 12's to match a drones laser code for instance. Like apolloace said, these can only be set in the DSMS inventory page. I think that IRL, that's not possible and they can only be set on the ground from the outside, so depending on how real you like to fly, and how realistic the mission is, you might have to omit or work around this type of buddy lasing. (I believe you could still pick up the drone's laser with TGP LSS, and then illuminate the target yourself for terminal guidance). 1

cthulhu68 Posted March 28, 2017 Posted March 28, 2017 (I believe you could still pick up the drone's laser with TGP LSS, and then illuminate the target yourself for terminal guidance). LSS/LST seems useful. Have to see how well that works.
Simon-PowerGER Posted March 29, 2017 Posted March 29, 2017 Few questions Greetings people, 1) Can you please tell me the current gameversion? I've bought A-10C dlc and a-10c basic training on steam and encounter bugs in nearly every mission. I've read about an auto updater fixing some of these, but the one I tried wanted to download around 27GB which seems wrong. My version is 1.5.6.1938 2) How to register ingame? I'm asked to login, but there's no button to register in the main menu. 3) Is there a quicksafe or can I download missions? I'd like to be able to retry trainings without having to wait for the narrators instructions every time. Have a good time
ricktoberfest Posted March 29, 2017 Posted March 29, 2017 Not sure what updater you were using as you shouldn't need to download that unless you're trying to download Nevada or the whole game again. Register on the DCS website and use that info in game -not sure about steam install No way to skip instructions unfortunately -Tapatalk
