Jane's USAF was a good game, I still have it and even thought about installing it again.

The only things that will let us know it's an ancient map are the cliffs edges. Other than that,... the work on the graphic engine is amazing, and give a second life to the black sea map. Great work, ED.

Now please, release it!

I have noticed a great improvment on 1.2.8 regarding lights and shadows. Everythings looks far more better and even for the FPS I dare to say I saw some slight improvments.

I saw also Wags latest picture updates which shows even better lightings.

 

Now I am just wondering: why all these efforts directed into improving existent map instead of focusing on the new engine? Or maybe these effects are not related to the map itself and are also used for EDGE too?

 

I am just wondering, not questioning anything! I like a lot new 1.2.8 alive surroundings.

The new pics are definately of EDGE. I can't say i have noticed any difference in lighting in 1.2.8.

I hope ED corrects the tree and static object sizes. Trees in DCS world seem out of scale compared to RL or even other engine renders like outerra.

EDGE and old map? I kind of doubt about this.

 

EDGE is the rendering/graphics engine, the "Map" is the lists (Database) defining the elevation, textures, cities, road and railway networks and static objects, may be the weather, clouds, etc.

When you then use EDGE to render objects and lights etc. it will benefit the old "map"... what was announced, was that the old map cannot implement new features that EDGE brings, which are not present in the old map! So what you see is the old map, partially enhanced by some features of the new EDGE graphics engine. :D

Neither module requires EDGE or a DCSW Version higher than 1.2.8... so Doubt it.
