SimFreak Posted August 30, 2014 Posted August 30, 2014 It's ED. You know? :noexpression: From previous releases; ED publishes a list of changes. Then releases a version. ED release Press Release. Then release said product. Therefore....
leafer Posted August 30, 2014 Posted August 30, 2014 Strictly speaking about their code of silence I was. ED have been taking my money since 1995. :P

Buzzles Posted August 30, 2014 Posted August 30, 2014 Just to play a counterpoint here: It may not be EDGE or 2.0. It may be a big set of changes as ED have decided to merge as many non graphic engine related bug fixes that were going into 1.3/2.0 into something like 1.2.11, because EDGE has been delayed further yet they still want to progress the game in some shape. Unlikely due to the increased screenshots using EDGE recently, but you never know. Just making a counterpoint until we get official patch notes :) Fancy trying Star Citizen? Click here!
NRG-Vampire Posted August 30, 2014 Posted August 30, 2014 Just making a counterpoint until we get official patch notes :) ^ of course  with other words: should be nice to get a post of next version of Open Beta Preliminary Change Log by Wags-Matt or Chizh :)
chev255 Posted August 30, 2014 Posted August 30, 2014 Am I the only one that understands "update" as an informational update (ie some news) and not as a "patch update" in Wags' post? I wouldn't get too cranked up yet...
Abburo Posted August 30, 2014 Posted August 30, 2014 Wags says: DCS World update that we will release in early September. 2014 I do understand that an DCS world update will be released :music_whistling: Romanian Community for DCS World HW Specs: AMD 7900X, 64GB RAM, RTX 4090, HOTAS Virpil, MFG, CLS-E, custom
Blaze Posted August 30, 2014 Posted August 30, 2014 More than likely a news update. i7 7700K | 32GB RAM | GTX 1080Ti | Rift CV1 | TM Warthog | Win 10 "There will always be people with a false sense of entitlement. You can want it, you can ask for it, but you don't automatically deserve it. "
upupandaway Posted August 30, 2014 Posted August 30, 2014 It would still be awesome to receive "only" an update on many of the questions/projects that are cooking behind the scenes. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Deedle, deedle!
VincentLaw Posted August 30, 2014 Posted August 30, 2014 (edited) My guess is that ED is going to release a 2.0 beta. That is a nice loophole. The MiG-21 could still technically be released for 1.2.10 even if it is after the 2.0.0 open beta is released. will edge be free?EDGE will be free. NTTR and other new maps will most likely cost money. The advantage of maps costing money is that it gives ED and third parties more incentive to develop more maps faster. The disadvantage is that buying maps will be necessary to play on multiplayer servers that use them. I always liked the everyone-is-compatible-with-everyone-ness of DCS, so that disappoints me a little bit. Edited August 30, 2014 by VincentLaw [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

upupandaway Posted August 30, 2014 Posted August 30, 2014 Yes, I meant that in relation to what Aburro and Blaze said. Even if there is no update to World I´d still be happy with some in depth news. :) Wags´post could possibly be interpreted both ways, although it sounds more like the first. SkateZilla Posted August 30, 2014 Posted August 30, 2014 i dont think the newsletter that was emailed out today is the monthly newsletter, but more the press release for the BF-109, as it's pretty much a copy/paste from the forum press release for the BF-109. Vampyre Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 Can the grass, trees and buildings burn and can we put deep craters in the terrain with a Mk-84 or similar weapons? That's what is needed for CA or any other module that is closely tied to ground combat, terrain that can be molded and shaped by participating forces on the battlefield... destroyed. A 70 ton tank cause a lot of damage to the land it travels over and a lot of them will really scar the land and destroy roads/trails and can create mobility difficulties for follow on vehicles. Trees that are modeled for collisions and AI units that cannot see through foliage are very important as well. The screen shots are very pretty... I hope that is not the extent of the 2.0 edge implementation. I'd like to see a difference in the soil as well with Hard packed earth that an aircraft can land on, bogs, swamps, ponds, lakes, rivers, creeks, streams, rocky terrain, ravines, freshly ploughed fields, forest, jungle and sand dunes to name a few examples. Differing terrain types and flowing waters are essential for the Combined Arms module and any DCS level Tanks/Fighting Vehicles that may be on the horizon. The ability to mold the terrain would be epic as it would enable the possibility to set up user made FARPS and forward airstrips virtually anywhere. DCS Seabee anyone? Truly superior pilots are those that use their superior judgment to avoid those situations where they might have to use their superior skills. If you ever find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck! "If at first you don't succeed, Carrier Landings are not for you!"
B25Mitch Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 Second pic taken under identical conditions. Note the improvements: 1.) Grass (obviously). 2.) Far more pronounced shadows, including shadowed grass. 3.) Better visibility (note Mt. Erebus on horizon). 4.) Better terrain shading. 5.) More realistic sky haze. 6.) Improved ambient lighting on the Abrams. 7.) More lush terrain colouring. DCS 2.0 will look fantastic.

Short depth of field can give you the impression that something is small since human depth of field is shorter at shorter distances. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
