I am so sick and tired of flight sim makers and their usual boring planes. Its always F16s, F15sand F18s. What I want to see is someone interesting enough to do a good F14 in detail. I'm still waiting but have lost all hope. I'm sure that they will make good sims but I'm not impressed if they are going to keep doing the same old thing.

Your opinion has been expressed by others here before. The last combat F16 study sim was Falcon 4, the last combat F18 and F15 study sims were released by Janes. All these I believe before the year 2000.

That was over 12 years ago. There is no mass flood of sims for these that we are sick of sorry. For sure as well none are at the level of an ED DCS release. Eventually, I am sure there will be a F-14 release.

Check out the F-14D from Dino Cattaneo for FSX. It is actually very good and it is freeware!

Except it doesn't fire any weapons... :music_whistling:

I think what they did with such an old engine is just incredible. Unfortunately, once you've played DCS, everything else feels... meh.

Heres some good news then:

I never ventured into the "working weapons" functionalities so far, for several reasons - mainly the lack of time, and the fact that I am more interested in flying rather than shooting things. However, the people at Vertical Reality Simulations were kind enough to provide me with access to the Tacpack Software Development Kit - and I was very impressed.

For those who don't know (very few I assume), VRS has developed an incredibly complete and realistic rendition of the F/A-18E Super Hornet - which is IMHO the best military plane for FSX - and, on top of that, they have developed the Tacpack - an add-on module for FSX which implements working weapons (an a lot of other features, like the drones you see in the screenshots). Not only weapons are working, but they have a realistic behaviour and can be used in multiplayer. For the moment, their Superbug is the only plane supported, and it is required for the installation - but this will change in future. More information here:

+1! One of the first things i'll do is try to find people interested in starting a CF-18 vSqn.

I'd be very much interested in this.

Isn't buddy tank available only on E/F?

I seem to recall buddy tanking going on in PBS's Carrier series and those were C's unless I am mistaken.

Yep, E/F model have the buddy refuel capability. And they can deliver a total of, 5,000 pounds of fuel, that's it. And that's with a flight time of around 20 mins.

They used to fly with the refuelling pod and 4 drop tanks, however the US Navy recently switched to flying with only the refuelling pod as they determined that the actual amount of fuel that can be deliverd is actually the same with both configurations.

It would have been cool if you could buddy refuel in the F/A-18C.

I'm quite sure that they can buddy refuel.

The C model can receive fuel from an E/F with refueling pod, but it cannot carry the refueling pod to buddy refuel other aircraft.

So when is it out? Do they only announce a plane once they have it ready for release, or when they are about to start building it?

They've been "building" FA-18C for some time now. ED typically makes announcements when they are close to pre-order/beta. At least that is how it has been lately.

Yep, that's been their practice. I purchased the A-10C as soon as the beta became available and found it was worth every penny.

Now i have my credit card ready and just waiting for the announcement of the FA-18C beta...

I am relatively new to DCS, so I don't know much about when they release their products. I have seen pretty old posts that mentioned that they guessed the next DCS aircraft after the P-51D would be the F/A-18C, but the official announcement from DCS was in a video on Youtube I think. However, the email seemed more like a formal announcement, whereas the video seemed more like a teaser, because it was only mentioned. How long do you think it will take? When you so, "close to pre-order/beta", do you mean close as in months? or close as in maybe a year? Thanks!
