  1. Hey everyone, I will be turning the DCS A-10C Warthog in-game Encyclopedia into PDF Format. I will keep updating this thread with new releases and updates. Here we have the Weapons Encyclopedia and the Air Defense Encyclopedia. I am not actually using any of my own info or research. I am just taking whats already listed in the in-game encyclopedia and making it in PDF Format for use outside of the game, or during flight on a second monitor, or however you choose. Sorry for creating a new thread for this since I already had one for the Weapons Encyclopedia, but I wanted to make the title a little better and then just be able to use this thread for all updates and new releases. Thanks and hope you enjoy. Weapons Encyclopedia(Original from first thread) http://www.mediafire.com/?ex1y0v2h8tpc0q9 Air Defenses Encyclopedia (New Release) http://www.mediafire.com/?q7ou83orq218y5f

  2. Hi Everyone, In the course of working towards the A-10C Pilot Qualification Campaign http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=62992 I ended up reverse engineering the training missions to determine parameter settings for various switches, etc. I put my learning into a handy reference guide so I wouldn't have to keep opening missions to see how it was done. It's still a work in progress and I won't guarantee that every value is correct or won't change with future ED releases. Hopefully other mission designers can use this... 3.

  7. And to those who talking about "China needs freedom blahblahblah" guys: China don't need an american or canadian or any other foreigner tell us about whether we have freedom or not, so shut the crap up! Why don't you ask the dictators of all those mid-east oil exporting countries to give their people freedom? So that's the trick: as long as those countries are loyal and useful for them, who care about freedom and other crap. Sadly for america and it's puppy canada, China is becoming too big to handle. If you be the enemy of a country which has 1.4 billion people, I promise you, we will be your worst NIGHTMARE

  8. DCS:WH can feel like a really intimidating sim, but once you've "figured out" the whole SOI, SPI thing, and the cold start sequence, suddenly its feels alot less overwhelming (info overload etc) and you can actually start enjoying yourself. As Celticcoho said, there will be plenty of ppl in squads/online happy to help...its why they are successful squads. There aren't many of us in the 504 these days, but when we do fly (couple of times a week, usually on Friday/Saturday night at 2100z) we train each other on the bits we each know. Its worked quite well for us so far, though we all have much to learn. We're now at the stage where we're comfortable taking on layered SHORAD (tunguska, shilka, strela...not quite so keen on those Osas yet though), we just still need to remember those BMPs are nasty critters when we get too enthusiastic with the cannon ;) Go online, don't be put off, you'll soon find a bunch of like minded and like-attituded guys to fly with.

  9. Hi there, This thread was started quite some time ago. It was designed to share with you my experience in building a toggle switch panel from scratch with little to no electronics experience (but I picked things up and did a lot of research on it). There is still a lot of useful information in this thread but this original post has been moved to the recently announced Warthog Pit Wiki I created for the express purpose of capturing all the knowledge throughout these forums. You can find the entire tutorial at this link: http://deadfrogstudios.com/warthogpit/index.php?title=Building_a_Custom_A-10_Panel_Using_a_GP-Wiz40

  11. I'm heading to the post office to pick up my new machine in an hour or so. Are there any games beyond ED products that people would like to see included in a comparative benchmarking session? My current list is FC2, DCS:BS, DCS:A-10C to cover ED products, and Starcraft 2 on top of that for good measure. I do however have a fairly extensive Steam library that could be included, time allowing. Ideas for synthetic benchmarks might also be interesting - thinking about Vantage for graphics and something like Cinebench. I'm also thinking about trying to "fake" an older C2D through lowering the multiplier, possibly matching that clock with the new CPU to give the clock-for-clock comparison. Needless to say, this will take some time, so knowing what people would be interested in seeing might help me able to publish the results quicker. :)

  13. And the scripts & config folders also have various empty files too, seemed odd, that's all. Thanks for the explanation. You can achieve the same resolution with jpeg, but yes you are correct that you need to be careful to maintain enough quality with jpegs that they are still clear. - One of these is 489KB png the other is 84.7KB jpg. Considering you can't zoom in on the briefing pages, there is very little difference in their legibility. (at least to my eyes) :smilewink:

  17. That's the case with a lot of titles, no? Like a beautiful woman, as you get to know them you start to understand that everything has flaws :) F4 is fantastic, and I think one of that series great strengths was that they really looked at the playing experience in detail, paying attention to visibility and how entities are depicted in the game world, & working carefully around the limitations of a desktop PC. DCS is still interesting though, and once you become accustomed to the mission format it is great fun just to 'be & do' and fly around trying different things - the results can be enlightening. BOBII is an amazing product. Superb 'feel' of flight too.

  19. That pretty much sums up the discussion for me. Realism is just a feature that complements the joy of a game and hence its entertainment value for me personally. If it doesn't add to the fun, I don't want realism in a game. That's why we don't have to do the paperwork before and after the missions. Of course the military isn't interested in a DC with a flight sim, as the aforementioned dynamic campaign is primarily an entertainment aspect. As has been stated before by others, the joy of this game degrades while getting better in operating the aircraft. For now I put DCS a-10 aside and started playing BoB II. The DC looks very convincing so far. While I don't enjoy flying WW2 aircraft, the promising DC boosts my motivation enormously to try it out. Hope a motivation boost will come back for DCS cuz the A-10 is the coolest aircraft ever!

  41. Shooting yourself in the Foot! Here are some ingenious ways to shoot yourself in the foot. Ladies and Gentlemen, please choose your weapon: 370 JCL You send your foot down to MIS with a 4000-page document explaining how you want it to be shot. Three years later, your foot comes back deep-fried. Ada After correctly packaging your foot, you attempt to concurrently load the gun, pull the trigger, scream, and shoot yourself in the foot. When you try, however, you discover that your foot is of the wrong type. Algol You shoot yourself in the foot with a musket. The musket is aesthetically fascinating and the wound baffles the adolescent medic in the emergency room. APL You shoot yourself in the foot, then spend all day figuring out how to do it in fewer characters. Apple We'll let you shoot yourself, but it'll cost you a bundle. ASP.NET Find a gun, it falls apart. Put it back together, it falls apart again. You try using the .GUN Framework, it falls apart. You stab yourself in the foot instead. Assembly You try to shoot yourself in the foot only to discover you must first reinvent the gun, the bullet, and your foot. After that's done, you pull the trigger, the gun beeps several times, then crashes. Brain**** Just looking at the gun gives you a migrane, so forget about actually shooting it. BASIC Shoot yourself in the foot with a water pistol. On big systems, continue until entire lower body is waterlogged. C You try to shoot yourself in the foot, but find out the the gun is actually a howitzer cannon. C++ You accidentally create a dozen clones of yourself and shoot them all in the foot. Emergency medical assistance is impossible since you can't tell which are bitwise copies and which are just pointing at others and saying, "That's me, over there." COBOL Using a COLT 45 HANDGUN, AIM gun at LEG.FOOT, THEN place ARM.HAND.FINGER. on HANDGUN.TRIGGER and SQUEEZE. THEN return HANDGUN to HOLSTER. CHECK whether shoelace needs to be retied. COMAL draw_pistol aim_at_foot(left) pull_trigger hop(swearing) Concurrent Euclid You shoot yourself in somebody else's foot. Cray I knew you were going to shoot yourself in the foot. csh After searching the manual until your foot falls asleep, you shoot the computer and switch to C. CSS You shoot your right foot with one hand, then switch hands to shoot your left foot but you realize that the gun has turned into a banana. dBase You buy a gun. Bullets are only available from another company and are promised to work so you buy them. Then you find out that the next version of the gun is the one that is scheduled to actually shoot bullets. DOS Batch You aim the gun at your foot and pull the trigger, but only a weak gust of warm air hits your foot. Eiffel You create a GUN object, two FOOT objects and a BULLET object. The GUN passes both the FOOT objects a reference to the BULLET. The FOOT objects increment their hole counts and forget about the BULLET. A little demon then drives a garbage truck over your feet and grabs the bullet (both of it) on the way. English You put your foot in your mouth, then bite it off. (For those who don't know, English is a McDonnell Douglas/PICK query language which allegedly requires 110% of system resources to run happily) Forth Foot in yourself shoot. FORTRAN You shoot yourself in each toe, iteratively, until you run out of toes, then you read in the next foot and repeat. If you run out of bullets, you continue anyway because you have no exception-handling ability. FTP % ftp lower-body.me.org ftp> cd /foot ftp> put bullets Hewlett-Packard You can use this machine-gun to shoot yourself in the foot, but the firing pin is broken. HTML <a target="http://body/lower-half/leg/foot.appendage"> Shoot here </a> HyperTalk Put the first bullet of the gun into the foot of the left leg of you. Answer the result. IBM You insert a clip into the gun, wait half an hour, and it goes off in random directions. If a bullet hits your foot, you're lucky. Internet You put your foot in your mouth, shoot it, then spam the bullet so that everybody gets shot in the foot. Java After importing java.awt.right.foot.* and java.awt.gun.right.hand.*, and writing the classes and methods of those classes needed, you've forgotten what the hell you're doing. JavaScript You've perfected a robust, rich user experience for shooting yourself in the foot. You then find that bullets are disabled on your gun. LISP You shoot yourself in the appendage which holds the gun with which you shoot yourself in the appendage which holds the gun with which you shoot yourself in the appendage which holds the gun with which you shoot yourself in the appendage which holds the gun with which you shoot yourself in the appendage which holds... Machine Language Before you can shoot yourself in the foot you must disassemble the gun at the atomic level and then reassemble it. After you do this, you find that the bullets require a special operator so the gun doesn't work. Microsoft Object "Foot" will be included in the next release. You can upgrade for $500. Modula-2 After realizing that you can't actually accomplish anything in this language, you shoot yourself in the head. Motif You spend days writing a UIL description of your foot, the trajectory, the bullet, and the intricate scrollwork on the ivory handles of the gun. Ruby Your foot is ready to be shot in roughly five minutes, but you just can't find anywhere to shoot it. Smalltalk, Actor, et al After playing with the graphics for 3 weeks, the programming manager shoots you in the head. SNOBOL If you succeed, shoot yourself in the left foot. Visual BASIC.NET You spend a fortune on a high-powered, self-cleaning, self-aiming, automatic handgun with unlimited ammo, only to realize it takes a year to pull the trigger. Visual FoxPro You mock other sharpshooters for not being able to shoot both feet at once, but when you try to do it yourself you realize that you can't properly handle the Microsoft.gun ActiveX. VMS %SYS-F-FTSHT, foot shot (fifty lines of traceback omitted) XBase Shooting yourself is no problem. If you want to shoot yourself in the foot, you'll have to use Clipper.

  43. You can program one of the buttons on your stick as a modifier (control setup > modifiers). You can now map every keyboard key and joystick key with a new command for when the modifier is held down. So you would select CDU Panel from the drop down menu in the control setup menu and just program it all :D In this way I programmed all CDU keys with a modifier on my keyboard and the UFC on the numerical keypad. This allows me to type with my left hand on the keyboard, thus keeping hands on stick, and not using the mouse. I can browse pages, enter text, coordinates etc.

  46. Hi Geskes, thanks for the mission. Only had a chance to play it once, but it was enjoyable. I like these 'low-key' type of scenarios rather than all-out you vs. a tank battalion swarming with air defences. Edit: most of this post is spoilers about the mission, so skip it if you'd rather try the mission without knowing anything more about it. I would suggest putting the information that appears in the first message dialog in the briefing. i.e. player's callsign and takeoff time. I like to copy important things from the briefing into a notepad window on my second monitor, but I can't do that after the sim's started. I took off a bit late because I forgot about the take-off time. Maybe some extra messages would be helpful here - I think it might add to the immersion if the flights that are departing were 'introduced' in some way so that later on you know who's being referred to (e.g. radio messages clearing them for takeoff just before they're spawned - maybe in later versions that will be in-game already). Also, a reminder shortly before you ought to start taxiing would be helpful. Or, I could just keep better track of time. :D I think it would also be nice to list the other callsigns in use, or at least the generalisations. I think Quebec callsigns were referring to various land units? And of course, a map in the briefing showing the flight plan and friendly positions. But I know they're a bit of a pain to make, so I understand why you haven't yet. :) Only real period of confusion I had during the mission was when Romeo announced the boat had reached the island even when I was a long way off - started doubting I was following the right boat. I think that trigger zone should be a lot smaller, so you don't get that message until the boat is near the shore. When that message arrived I thought I should start my attack, so I started scanning the island - kind of defeating the purpose of following the boat to shore so you can see where the target buildings are. After the main mission, the JTAC never appeared - is this not implemented yet or did I miss something? Overall, nice atmosphere - I liked feeling like a minor actor in a larger action, with most of the radio messages not directed at me. Looking forward to playing around with the mission more to see everything's that going on outside the cockpit.
