Dear DCS community, The Polychop Simulations team wishes you a merry Christmas and a happy New Year! With the year coming to an end it seems like a good time to reflect on the past and look at the future. Let’s address the big elephant in the room first. While this year has not been the year of the OH-58D Kiowa Warrior release, we’re thrilled to finally see a light at the end of the tunnel. In fact, we’re approaching the end of the tunnel fast. While the development of the module hasn’t been exactly a smooth ride, the progress made in the past year has been immense. As the new coders took over the project from our parting engineer, they saw the need to either rewrite or refactor most of the code that drives the module to ensure the desired internal quality threshold in systems and the flight model as well as make it more efficient, dynamic and future proof. Artwork has been touched up and finalized. On top of that new features have been added which include but are not limited to Level 2 Manned-Unmanned System (L2MUMS), an overhauled Control Display Subsystem, Optical Display Assembly, Pilot Display Unit and the Improved Data Modem. Last but not least, the module has been sent to Eagle Dynamics and passed the flight model tests. All this would not have been possible without the continued efforts put in by our subject matter experts and testers who have stuck with us for many years now. We’re confident it will soon™ be time to lift the veil and break the radio silence surrounding the development of the OH-58D Kiowa Module. The past year has not been all about the OH-58D Kiowa Warrior though. While the original plan was to work on an overhaul of the SA-342 Gazelle after the release of the OH-58D Kiowa Warrior module, a decision based on the original planned development timeline, the newly formed team revised that plan and started to develop the SA-342 Gazelle overhaul in tandem instead. With the first few updates for the SA-342 released in 2023 we’re off to a good start but we’re not even close to being done. The SA-342 Gazelle will see intermittent updates, including but not limited to the flight model, A.I. gunners, a graphical facelift and English cockpit. We’d like to express our sincere gratitude to a number of contributors from the community who have dedicated their time and spared no efforts in providing the most excellent liveries that are now part of the module.7 points

I don't know if this have been reported yet but there are no threads about it going back to at least June. While working on a livery I noticed 6 errors in the model that appear to be slight misalignment in the polygon vertices. Confirmed it is not due to the normal map or roughmet. Pictures attached from modelviewer darkviper livery with low light (late evening/early morning with nose pointed roughly into the sun so the light hits the model at a low angle.4 points

Good morning folks, unfortunately I have to declare defeat. I wasn’t able to get the 5800X3D to run smoothly. I came across one last promising idea. There is (was) a known issue with Ryzen CPUs/Mainboards causing stutters in games, related to the onboard fTPM (Trusted Platform Module). This should be fixed by up to date BIOS versions. The Mainboard I use has a double BIOS, whenever there is a problem it switches to the other BIOS (you can’t switch them deliberately). I didn’t notice at first that changing the CPU has switched the BIOS and that the second one wasn’t up to date - so that gave me hope that updating it would cure the problem. Long story short, it didn’t. Nothing of the methods discussed did. No core switching, MT.lua on/off, power service, … only the maxfps to 120 brought some relieve (but only in scenarios with overall high fps, cross testing in other environments was jaggy again). So I switched back to my trusty 5900X (btw. none of the other benchmarks I did - Heaven, Superposition, Cyberpunk - showed any advantage for the X3D anyway), and luckily - at first glance - it seem to work as flawless as before. Now I‘m sitting here, confused and somewhat disappointed. Tinkering with hard and software is part of the fun for me, so I don‘t mind the hours spent with this endeavor - and I was aware from the beginning that there was probably no gain with the the cpu change. Usually though, I end up with some result. Either finding some kind of solution or at least learning some new things. This time around…..4 points

Dear Partners, fellow 3rd Parties and Pilots, Thank you for the continued support and words of encouragement. As are we; the community is very passionate for the aircraft we develop, and take heart to everything aspect of the module. We'll do good on our end and get those pesky remaining bugs squashed in the coming year. This year has been quite an aerobatic routine. Between developing the F4U-1D, and other exciting unannounced projects, we've managed to get the Corsair on the final stretch, along with it's Essex Class Carrier and Japanese Ground Assets. We are starting to make time to upgrade our older modules. First by implementing the extremely long awaited LoDs. and eventually the full MiG-21bis Phase II update. Updates will start picking up pace, so hold on to your HOTAS and stay tuned! With that, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! May all your dreams come true during this holiday season, and your hearts be filled with love, happiness, and gratitude!3 points

“Dear Editor,” Virginia O’Hanlon started her letter to the editor, “I am 8 years old.” The young girl from New York City penned a letter in September 1897 to the New York Sun, explaining: “Some of my little friends say there is no Santa Claus. Papa says ‘If you see it in The Sun it’s so.’ ” Then came the pointed question: “Please tell me the truth, is there a Santa Claus?" The letter, written in careful cursive, prompted a response so touching and timeless that it has been shared countless times over the past century — and become its own classic Christmas story. “Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus,” editorial writer Francis Pharcellus Church anonymously answered in the newspaper. “He exists as certainly as love and generosity and devotion exist, and you know that they abound and give to your life its highest beauty and joy. Alas! How dreary would be the world if there were no Santa Claus. It would be as dreary as if there were no Virginias." Virginia of ‘Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus’ grew up to be a teacher Over the years, especially during the holiday season, the iconic Christmas editorial has inspired music and movies and stage plays, even a cartoon. Throughout her life, Laura Virginia O’Hanlon Douglas, a longtime schoolteacher, also spoke about and recited it to other young children, explaining, “The older I get, the more I appreciate its philosophy.” In 1959, when asked whether she still believed in Santa Claus, the then-70-year-old O’Hanlon told a reporter: “Well, of course I do. Everybody wants to know — particularly at Christmastime — that there’s some kindly person interested in his well-being. It gives a glow to living. Whether it really is a person or a spirit doesn’t really matter very much — does it? Some people say we shouldn’t believe in things we can’t see. This is most unrealistic. Look at all the nice things that have happened to me because of Santa Claus.” Not long before her death in 1971, she said that she still believed in Saint Nick. The editorial — which was buried deep on Page 6 of the Sun on Sept. 21, 1897 — has been called “American journalism’s best-known editorial.” It read: Virginia, your little friends are wrong. They have been affected by the skepticism of a skeptical age. They do not believe except they see. They think that nothing can be which is not comprehensible by their little minds. All minds, Virginia, whether they be men’s or children’s, are little. In this great universe of ours man is a mere insect, an ant, in his intellect, as compared with the boundless world about him, as measured by the intelligence capable of grasping the whole of truth and knowledge. Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus. He exists as certainly as love and generosity and devotion exist, and you know that they abound and give to your life its highest beauty and joy. Alas! How dreary would be the world if there were no Santa Claus. It would be as dreary as if there were no Virginias. There would be no childlike faith then, no poetry, no romance to make tolerable this existence. We should have no enjoyment, except in sense and sight. The eternal light with which childhood fills the world would be extinguished. Not believe In Santa Claus! You might as well not believe in fairies! You might get your papa to hire men to watch in all the chimneys on Christmas Eve to catch Santa Claus, but even if they did not see Santa Claus coming down, what would that prove? Nobody sees Santa Claus, but that is no sign that there is no Santa Claus. The most real things in the world are those that neither children nor men can see. Did you ever see fairies dancing on the lawn? Of course not, but that’s no proof that they are not there. Nobody can conceive or imagine all the wonders there are unseen and unseeable in the world. You may tear apart the baby’s rattle and see what makes the noise inside, but there is a veil covering the unseen world which not the strongest man, nor even the united strength of all the strongest men that ever lived, could tear apart. Only faith, fancy, poetry, love, romance, can push aside that curtain and view and picture the supernal beauty and glory beyond. Is it all real? Ah, Virginia, in all this world there is nothing else real and abiding. No Santa Claus! Thank God he lives, and he lives forever. A thousand years from now, Virginia, nay, ten times ten thousand years from now, he will continue to make glad the heart of childhood.3 points

The radar mode switch switches... the radar modes. GTM, or ground target mapping, is a PPI (plan position indicator) scope, meaning it's a top down view where angles and ranges are not skewed in any way. It can identify and classify moving and stationary ground targets and low flying aircraft. RMAP is the same, but in a B-Scope format, meaning that azimuth is distorted such that each vertical line is a separate azimuth line, as commonly found in fighter jets' radars. other than that, it's exactly the same as GTM. ATM, or air target mode, has the radar defaulted upwards by 3° and there is no automatic elevation control. It's a PPI scope designed to find air targets. the radar sweep is also not limited to 90° as with the ground modes and in the wide setting it will rotate all the way around, with a blind spot behind the aircraft due to the tail. Medium scan size is 180°, narrow is 90° and zoom is 45°. For all 3, C-Scope (elevation over azimuth scope) can project target symbols onto the HMD/TADS. TPM, or terrain profile mode, is used to detect terrain and obstacles, such as power poles or antenna towers. It has a NEAR mode which scans -3° out to roughly 1000m, and a far mode at -0.5° for 2500m. Weather, such as heavy rain, might limit you to near mode effectively (not sure if DCS will model weather effects on radar). In TPM, the scan zone is determined by the ground speed and it switches automatically from 180° to 90° if you accelerate past 55 knots and back to 180° when you slow down below 45 knots. On the radar screen you will see black for safe, dark gray for an altitude below aircraft but above the margin set on the FCR page (can be set to 20, 50, 100 or 200ft), white for terrain above the aircraft altitude, and bright gray for radar shadow/unknown elevation. Obstacles will be shown in yellow as symbols. C-Scope can also project terrain profile lines (none and up to 4) at different distances (different preset settings are available for those distances) and obstacles onto the HMD.3 points

Dear all, we would like to take the opportunity and thank you for your kind and tremendous support! You are simply the best community there is and we could not feel more blessed with all the enthusiasm you showed us and the very kind patience you give us - we do not take it for granted, and we take the responsibility it puts on us very seriously. 2023 has been an overall great year, despite some shortcomings and delays, we had hoped to have the early F-14A out by now, for example, but our promises to you of course remain and we will not stop working hard and doing our best until we fulfilled all of them. With the F-4 on the horizon - and many great things cooking in the background - we hope that we can up our game even more during 2024 and to finally also make good on the still remaining items for all our modules. What remains to say is that we wish you all a Merry Christmas and/or Happy Holidays and a Happy New Year 2024. We wish you, your families and loved ones peace, health, prosperity and success in whatever you do, and thank you for being a part of this journey - a journey that we feel has many new and great stops ahead for all of us in the future. Thank you all from the entire Heatblur Team. Onwards and upwards! (screenshot: Yae Sakura, from last year's christmas screenshot competition.)3 points

I wish you all a wonderful Christmas holidays and all the best for the New Year! First of all, I want to thank you all for your comments and likes. This year has been influenced by my work on Tornado a lot. Some things unfortunately didn't work out as I had planned but some did and I had time to work on. Just like this year, for the next year I have a plan of what things need to be done and what I want to work on, step by step. I really appreciate your interest in this aircraft and I as always I try to do my best to bring you the joy and experience of flying this airplane at DCS. Once again, my thanks to you, and I wish that the next year will be successful not only for me but also for you!3 points

In this DCS: AH-64D video, we’ll discuss sending and receiving attack results over the datalink for better coordination between flight members. Once the battle is over, the flight lead can collect BDA Reports, or Battle Damage Assessments. As you probably noticed, each time you fire a missile, a green X appears on the FCR page, and on the TSD page if you have it set to Attack phase. These represent target locations that have been engaged with missiles, which you then review on the TSD SHOT page. It’s important to understand that these reports only indicate that a missile has been fired at a target, it does not indicate if the target was actually destroyed. In the second half of this video, we’ll discuss how to set FCR contacts as Target Points and ways to slave the TSD to an FCR-identified target. To view my own SHOT file, I’ll press COORD at T5, then press SHOT at T6. Each target location that I shot a missile at will display its corresponding target symbol, the missile type as RF for a radar-guided missile, SAL for a laser-guided missile, the time that I launched the missile, and the coordinates of the target. Note that these locations are recorded for all missiles, regardless of whether they were radar-guided or laser-guided variants, and regardless of whether I engaged with the FCR or the TADS. However, an Unknown square symbol will always be displayed for any engagements that are performed using the TADS, since only the FCR is able to classify a target type. If I want to send my SHOT file to another flight member, I can do so on the TSD Report page. I select the main TSD page, select RPT at T1, and select BDA at L1. I have several options to choose from. I can send my own SHOT file to my Primary members by selecting OWN, or I can send ALL SHOT files on board my aircraft. When ALL is selected, the BDA report will include my own SHOT file as well as any other SHOT files that I’ve received from other flight members, allowing me to forward them to other flights as necessary. Alternatively, I can request a BDA report from my teammate in the other aircraft, which I’ll do by toggling the MSG type from SEND to RQST (Request), select his callsign, and then press SEND. His system will automatically send me the data in reply to my request. Now, you can see additional green X symbols that are displayed in a dim green, which represent the locations that he has engaged. If I return to the SHOT page, I can now see entries that are labeled as “DL”, for datalink SHOT files, in addition to my own SHOT file entries labeled as “OWN”. If I wanted to delete any SHOT file entries received over the datalink, I can press the DEL button on the left side. But I can’t delete any of my own. I also want to go over how to store FCR targets as TSD Target points. This can be particularly useful if you intend to gather reconnaissance data on enemy positions which you intend to send to other AH-64D’s or to bring back with you for follow-on missions. Since the FCR data is overwritten after each scan, storing FCR targets in this manner can be a small but crucial capability that can pay dividends for large-scale missions. NOTE 1. Yes, we plan to allow George to engage with the FCR, but only after we complete FCR development. Also, once the FCR is complete, we will add new datalink functions between aircraft. For now, AH-64D to AH-64D datalink is multiplayer-only. NOTE 2. We will later add LINK mode that will slave the TADS to the FCR NTS. NOTE 3. We will add the FCR to the reloading/refueling pop-up. This is currently planned for the January 2024 Open Beta update but is subject to change based on testing. NOTE 4. As always, these videos provide a preview of an upcoming feature to assist you in understanding a new feature. Later, it is quite possible that the feature will change, and the feature functionality has changed. As much as I’d like to, I lack the time re-record these videos.3 points

Your wait is over. After a few fits and starts, and lots of fixes and up-dates, may I present, The Vought F-8 Crusader Credits, Pedro Caparros for the model, And permission to use it in DCS Spino, for the inspiration and sticking to RL lua code! My friend, @kolpakov_79, For the weapon Lua work on this version and the loading and background screens. Thank you! Main menu logo, me. Extra skins, myself and I do not remember! LOL Enjoy! https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/35zozcnkkvicqd9wt45t9/Vought-F-8-Crusader-V1.0.0.zip?rlkey=h1w6jify2jon8k0wy661ilb4v&dl=0 My Fav! is above This is the crappy cockpit which came with the model. The new one is highly detailed. The FC3 F-15 cockpit could be used with a bit of lua and file work. If anyone does this, send me a PM. I can add arg 114 to the aircraft cockpit area for this purpose. Any other issues, send me a PM. Lets not foul up his thread any further than needed! Thank you! NOT tested other than to make sure it worked! YMMV2 points

Thanks for the modified file! I'll take a look. I use http://www.gonavy.jp/CV-CV31f.html as reference for the squadrons at different times operating from the Bon Homme Richard. Most notably (and missing) is the F-8 Crusader, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vought_F-8_Crusader , for the Vietnam War era. @Hawkeye60 already reported that one is in the making. @Hawkeye60 on helicopters deployed, I find: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Piasecki_HUP_Retriever (till 1963) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kaman_SH-2_Seasprite (Vietnam War) @Citizen I usually credit contributors directly in configs and scripts, and as the original parking positions were your work, you're in I'll test out @toan config later. Sorry! The OP no longer applies but the main thing to be investigated is the total fuel, which still seems smaller than expected. I'm not sure how much fuel the A/A42R-1 air refuelling store adds but the previous D-704 (which is a similar size and configuration) contained 300 US gallons of JP-5, which translates to about around 2050 lbs, at 20°C; at the moment it currently carries 24 lbs. The total weight of the aircraft is also less than the regular S-3B with a single full drop tank, that could be explained by the removal of ASW equipment seen in the tanker version in DCS, but it might be worth investigating. Merry Christmas!2 points

With the addition of the FCR (GTM mode), I've added a two-page kneeboard for employing the AGM114L radar guided Hellfire using the FCR from the pilot seat: AH-64D - AGM114L HELLFIRE PILOT WITH FCR-1.png AH-64D - AGM114L HELLFIRE PILOT WITH FCR-2.png NOTE: As more FCR modes become available, including LINK mode (that will slave the TADS to the FCR NTS), I will probably make additional updates to this kneeboard. Also, I plan to add a kneeboard(s) for employing the AGM114L radar guided Hellfire using the FCR from the co-pilot (CP/G) seat, but it may take a bit longer; thus, I wanted to provide this kneeboard sooner rather than later.2 points

Dear Dangerzone, First, let me start by saying I am very sorry this thread went unnoticed for so long. It is an important issue and your detailed and thoughtful post deserved a response, finally after discussing it with management, here we are. Second, this type of feedback is what we look forward to and makes it tougher that I missed this for so long. The answer will be much shorter but please I hope you do not see it a disregard of all your points but rather that we at ED have been seeing what's been going on running two release versions. So the answer is this... The Open Beta and Stable system of the released will be fully reworked. The process will be changed and all our customers will receive only one version of DCS. Now I do not have any more details than this right now and of course no timeline. But this is the direction we will be headed in the future. Thanks once again for the feedback, hope you and yours have a wonderful Holiday Season! NineLine/Norm2 points
