  1. Heatblur Simulation: „Cold and Dark. What's your first flight in the Phantom going to be? This week and weekend, the team has worked hard on improving performance, fine tuning FM performance and characteristics, and getting more of JESTER AI in place, who will over time and through EA grow to be your trusted GIB. Stay tuned for long-form and in-depth videos and development updates coming up shortly as we burn the midnight oil to "go gold" and release our Phantom. Thank you for all of your support and for making the start of year an amazing one so far, we look forward to it just getting better and better from here.”

  2. You have repeatedly attacked others motivations, players and Heatblur, and then to say I had an ad hominen attack is ridiculous and nothing more than projection on your part. You saying players are "low knowledge" or "they don't care about history" while standing on your pedestal refusing to acknowledge the role and capability of the F-4E in SEAD missions is elitist and dishonest. And coming from somone that professes to care about history? Well, let's just say it doesn't help your credibility.

  4. Proxy404's DFCP Better Air Race Equipment (P-51 for scale) Tired of flying in an air race with the single pylon or fighting with the waypoints to get the stock helper gates working? This pack is for you! This pack includes new air gate styles, new helper gates, and a large and VERY large traffic cones! The "air gates" or cones come in 3 styles (pictured above), and the helper gates come in 2 styles, vertical and horizontal both ranging from 100-1000 ft at 100 ft increments and an arch. Each variant comes in all the colors. A special "Offset Helper Gate" is included that can be placed on buildings or raised surfaces that sets the gate horizontally of the edge. This allows gates to be more closely linked to an existing object's height like a building. Installation If you have a previous version of this mod installed, please delete the old folder before installing this one! Unzip the "DFCPBetterAirRaceEquipment" folder into the "..\Saved Games\DCS\Mods\tech" folder. The new air race items should show up in the mission editor under Static > Structures. Look for the prefix of DFCP. Note: If you don't have the "tech" folder in the mods directory, you will need to create it. Tacview objects included! Once the mod pack is unzipped into the DCS folder copy the "Tacview" folder from DFCPBetterAirRaceEquipment and paste it into your "C:\Users\<user_name>\AppData\Roaming\" folder. This will add the object files and the xml to Tacview so that the new objects can appear during recordings allowing you to review racing lines and see how close you came to smashing into that ring. Note: "AppData" is a hidden folder by default. A quick google search will tell you how to show hidden files. Donations (aka enabling Proxy's crippling DCS addiction) Asset pack is completely free but donations are crazy appreciated! Donate Here or scan the QR code Download Here Introducing the BEEG CONE

  6. First, thanks to those at the beginning of the thread, and we are glad the DCS F/A-18C is bringing you enjoyment, it’s a great aircraft for sure. Our goal is to create an F/A-18C that is around 90% accurate. Naturally, that remaining 10% is not possible to due lack of data and security concerns. Regardless, we believe we offer the most authentic F/A-18C available in a PC simulation. Just to be clear, our F/A-18C is generally based on a 2002 OFP 04E due to the availability of public references. There are a handful of exceptions, but a 2002 04E bird is the general goal. The F/A-18C is a very important module to us, and it has taken us to places we have never gone before by laying the groundwork for other DCS aircraft. There are of course items we are still working on, like MSI, flight model and FCS tuning, and more (see roadmap). We understand how important these aircraft are to our customers. This is particularly true for those customers that are hyper-focused on anything they can find wrong rather than appreciating the product as a whole. For those trying to bring up issues by hijacking such topics, the place to do so would be in the bug section with the appropriate evidence (not opinion). We are happy to review all concerns, but please respect topics created by other members that are enjoying the game.

  8. It is not- for two reasons. First, in American service the F-4E was used from Day 1 in the Suppression of Enemy Air Defenses role. In “Palace Cobra” pilot Ed Rasimus wrote of his time flying the SEAD mission, back when Vietnam was two countries and The Bee Gees were a group of talented & anonymous British musicians. Back when the F-4G was only a document on a Pentagon planners desk, the F-4E would fly alongside F-105 Wild Weasels to drop CBU on whatever hostile sites the Bears called out. The USAF never funded enough dedicated Wild Weasel aircraft to cover its global force needs , and thus augmented the Wild Weasel units with F-4Es. The practice continued with the adoption of the F-4G to replace war-worn Thuds. This is one big reason why the standard USAF F-4E was wired for AGM-45 ; it was understood even at the planning stages that the F-4E would operate with the F-4G to prosecute the SEAD mission. Lacking the APR-38/47 suite the F-4E couldn't cut, track and locate signals. But it didn’t have to. The F-4G EWO would call out which way to turn and when to shoot, and the F-4E(s) would launch their Shrikes/ Mavericks/ etc as needed. When the F-4E was phased out of the active Air Force inventory for the F-16, the “helper” job transferred to the Viper - and is how it got the SEAD mission today. If that’s not enough Weasel credibility, consider the Israelis. In October 1973 onward, they used the F-4E as a SEAD platform. The AGM-78 Standard ARM was integrated & fired on their versions of the F-4E, and SEAD missions- executed not much differently from the trailer- was the type’s bread and butter during the Yom Kippur war. Many Kurnasses were lost in this job, including the disastrous “Model 5” strike against SA-6 batteries they couldn’t detect. Now, you’re technically correct that advanced signal processing , sorting, analysis and ARM handoff was only done one the F-4G variant with a dedicated EWO: but the F-4E was historically heavily used in the SEAD mission, and thus the trailer’s intent doesn’t remotely represent fraud. It’s splitting hairs to suggest a EWO-pilot pair represents a Wild Weasel SEAD mission, but the F-4Es flying with them - or Israeli Kurnasses working a SAM site - isn’t.

  9. Ah, an ad hominem. Thank you for confirming the solidity of my points by responding with, essentially, nothing. Except you prove it earlier in your message. It's hard to see how calling people 'low knowledge' or saying they 'don't know or care about the history' on a forum about historical jets can't be seen as anything but an attack.

  10. Your suggestion about returning to single assets has been received. I feel like I'm repeating myself every other day, but okay, here it is: I don't allow redistribution of my assets, for example by hacking them up and re-packaging them for further distribution. I make my assets for own entertainment, and release them for others to enjoy. If you don't enjoy my assets, you don't have to use them. I release my assets in country packs, which are maintained and updated regularly. There are more frequently asked questions answered at my site: https://www.currenthill.com/faq

  12. BO-105 Development Report During the last few months, the Miltech-5 team has been hard at work on developing a completely new set of functionalities for the BO-105 helicopter. Simulating helicopters is a long and complex endeavor, and throughout our journey the team has learned valuable lessons along the way. Development cycles often require taking a step back, and realistically assessing the needs and wants of the community. Your ever-increasing standards and expectations do not fall of deaf ears, and we have taken draconian measures to meet them. In concrete terms, this means we had to go back to the proverbial drawing board, take an honest look at what the team could realistically achieve with existing tech… and we concluded that we had to change the way we do things. We needed to set a new benchmark in terms of helicopter flight dynamics fidelity and more accurately simulate various aircraft systems, devices, and components. “MEDUSA” is the name of our own internal software framework, specifically built from scratch to better simulate realistic aircraft physics, including behavior according to their mass and properties. The traditional way to simulate a specific user action (for example, moving a switch in the cockpit) is to cause a chain of actions, which then are checked for all possible situations. Here is an example on how things were typically computed prior to using MEDUSA: Is electrical power available? Is the relevant circuit breaker pressed in? Is the device useable/undamaged? If all previous conditions are met, results of all connected devices are calculated. Hardware Devices The MEDUSA software considers individual devices/components as dynamic objects, which are in turn affected by environment arguments, and react accordingly. Any external change of arguments does not require a specific software module anymore. The reaction is an automatically computed result based on the combination of all device results. Electrical, fuel, hydro-mechanical and oil lubrication systems of the simulated helicopter are as close to an integrated 1:1 representation of the real helicopter as can be. One of the most critical physics models to get right is the rotor assembly. Each rotor blade is divided into 10 sectors. Each sector computes: Sector speed Sector lift Sector drag Sector momentum Sector centripetal forces All sector forces are added, which in turn affect the entire helicopter. The three images below show calculations in different situations. The green bars show the lift development, the red bars the induced drag. The first image has the collective in downmost position. The second image shows the collective raised 7 degrees upwards. The third image shows the collective raised in the uppermost position. This approach ensures that special situations like autorotation or blade stall are dynamically computed and affect the whole flight model. Special care was also taken to accurately model rotor blade stall, which can lead you into dangerous situations. If a helicopter is in a rapid descent (vertical velocity greater than 800 ft/min) with almost no forward movement, the inner blade sectors 1, 2 and 3 have a resulting angle of attack (AoA) greater than 18 degrees. This is partly caused by blade twist (8 degrees), collective position and the direction of streaming air caused by the abrupt descent. The physical position of the inner sectors affect the lift vector, which in this case is reduced to almost nothing) and the pilot has almost no possibility to recover. Why? Well, a natural reflex to decrease the decent rate would be to raise the collective further up… but the side effect of doing so further increases the blade angle, which is already stalling. The image below represents the stream of air in a blade stall situation. The beauty behind this concept is that the stalling blade is recognized as physical result by the rotor device software. In other news, the electrical and fuel supply systems are done. The turboshaft simulation still needs a bit more tuning since the modelling of the compressor and the combustion chamber are not quite where they need to be yet. The next step will be the integration of the gearbox and the rotor systems. In parallel, another team is working on integrating the module with the DCS SDK (Software Development Kit) interface. The Miltech-5 team has already shown the advanced stages of our photorealistic replica of the BO-105’s cockpit and helicopter body, but we thought it was important to share what goes on under the hood when it comes to systems, flight model and component interactions. The BO-105 is an exciting challenge, and we are very excited to share further upcoming features as we approach the finish line. We will keep you informed continuously about the development progress.

  15. Do you really believe the video intended to be historically accurate? No, it's for building hype as you said. As such, they made up a fake mission, in a fake conflict to show off the SEAD capabilities of the F-4E. How is that false advertising? The F-4E is perfectly capable of the mission set as shown in the video, whether it would have been technically classified as a Wild Weasel mission 50 years ago or not. We aren't in the 60s, 70s, or 80s anymore and like it or not, Wild Weasel has become the common term the majority of people associate with the mission depicted in the video. So they used the terminology people in general are familiar with. In other words they catered to the majority of their audience who is paying them by buying their aircraft. It doesn't matter that this particular squadron never did this in real life because DCS is a game! It's not real life and neither is the mission depicted in the video. Most of DCS is historically inaccurate anyways, with made up missions and conflicts, AI units from the wrong time period that fly like UFOs and see through terrain and clouds, aircraft missing weapons because they haven't been added yet, etc. It's pretty laughable to expect a marketing video to be a perfectly historical representation of an aircraft because that's not the goal of marketing a game. Heatblur is simulating the F-4E the aircraft, not making a documentary film on its real life usage. You've made your point that you dislike the video based on the historical innaccracies. That's fine and you're entitled to your own opinion, but the video wasn't made for perfect historical accuracy, it was made to advertise the DCS: F-4E module and show it performing the SEAD role. It did what it was made to do perfectly.

  17. Dear friends, I have created a TACAN approach chart for Kutaisi airport in Caucasus region. Chart created from scratch of DCS World v2.9.1.48335 and is not an adaptation of a real chart in order to have inaccuracies. It is under scale, that means it has extreme precision! Pay special attention to the date that you fly your mission, in order to be valid the bearings of the chart (years 2016-2024). E.g. If your mission has date 31 December 2015 (and for some years ago), then the Mag. Var. will be 6 deg. E and then the approach TACAN radial will be 071 (instead of 070 of the chart). Included also the ILS approach chart for Kutaisi and Kobuleti airports. A preview of it below: Download link: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3335610/ I hope to enjoy it. Feel free to post your questions and remarks. Nikos.

  18. This exactly. DCS doesn't have and likely never will have all the correct units to make most missions historically accurate, so it just blows my mind when people get so anal about historical accuracy. This entire game is just one big anachronistic mess, but we make do with it because there's really no other alternatives to DCS. I'll be flying the F-4E over the Marianas in pseudo-Vietnam scenarios despite the fact we don't have basically any correct units and because it's pretty much the only jungle we have in game. The SA-2 is an 80s variant, the MiG-21 and 19 are both the wrong version, the ships aren't there, early manpads aren't there, the F-4E we are getting isn't correct for Vietnam really either and I hold out some small hope that Heatblur gives us the option for the early strobe RWR since they are going to all the trouble to make one for the early F-14A. Luckily the MiG-17F, F-100D, and A-1H are all in the works and will be correct for this, but we still won't have a Vietnam map by then and probably not napalm either. Just to screw with the historical purists, here's a KC-135A refueling a B-52D(WIP). Oh, wait, it's a KC-135R and a B-52H painted up to look the part because the correct versions I need aren't in DCS or available as mods. GIMP and my rudimentary skin-making skills to the rescue, lol.

  19. Coming with the good news, I guess. We have added the flares recently. See the manual: https://f4.manuals.heatblur.se/stores/air_to_ground/bombs/conventional_bombs.html#suu-25-target-marker-flares [emoji106] As for NVG, our SMEs confirmed that, at least for the timeframe our Phantom represents, they were not a thing yet. To my understanding, only very late Phantoms would have ever seen NVGs.

  21. Yes, Heatblur know their audience. It was made for the masses who don't know or care about the history. That was one of my points and I appreciate the agreement on that part. I maintain that the advertising is false in regard to the F-4E as a Wild Weasel. I have said multiple times that the people who know (mainly the been there done that veterans) are pointing out the squadron discrepancy which is what my original post was partially in response to. On that we have to agree to disagree it seems. Being low knowledge, in this case, is not a bad thing per se, it just means there is much more to learn and I hope others will delve into the history more. Now, some here seem to be offended by my points like I am saying they themselves have to be or do something or I have somehow attacked them. I have never once said or done that. I point out discrepancies in the video and somehow that is distressing in some way. They are arguing points not made and overlooking/ignoring what was actually typed or in the worst case, putting their words into my mouth. Like I said before, tempest in a teacup. It means little in the grand scheme of things. Now, getting away from the videos accuracy issues and when we ignore the history and go with the modern usage of the call sign, The F-4E is far from being a "perfectly capable Weasel". The F-4E is a poor Weasel substitute as it is not capable of detecting, classifying, locating and attacking a site within seconds and Shrike is a poor performing ARM. I think that will become more obvious once it releases... especially with Skynet and similar scripts (or ED's SAM AI rework) which integrate the SAM networks making them much more potent than they are currently. Judging by the F-14, I have no doubt that Heatblur are doing an outstanding job on this module so much so that I preordered on day one. I look forward to using it not as a half measure Weasel, but as the third generation fighter bomber it is. Ah, an ad hominem. Thank you for confirming the solidity of my points by responding with, essentially, nothing.

  25. IMHO @SharpeXB is spot on with his observations on the value and accuracy of this poll both in terms of sample size and skewed nature on those who vote in forum polls and the customer base as a whole. That said there are many sims which have been converted to VR with success, the whole MSFS change of mind is a classic example, pretty much every racing sim started out as 2D only. VTOL is an example of a game designed for VR capable of running on potato PCs but is hardly of interest to most DCS customers. In my view DCS is pretty spectacular in VR. Yes it needs a more powerful PC than the average player will have but I fully understand the enthusiast base it has. I am sure it is a niche but in much the same way the cockpit builders are a niche. In both cases it probably represents groups who spend far more on DCS than average, so simple percentages of numbers of users may not represent the sales value. Personally I think these discussions are somewhat moot, the VR user base is sufficient enough and perhaps more importantly enthusiastic enough to merit supporting. 2D will remain a key aspect of future development, I don’t see VR becoming the majority use even though I exclusively run it for DCS I the foreseeable future.

  27. I mean we are getting Iraq, and the F4(G that is) did wild weaseling during Desert Storm and even into the 90s during northern/southern watch. One of the few Ameican F16 air to air kills was during a SEAD mission when the F16 shot down a mig, while defending its F4G buddy. And I'll use the E as G(I would love an actual G) just as I've used the F16 as an F16A. In DCS he get what we get. There is no plan or its all kinda spaced out play pen. We have to pretend you're flying a P47 razorback in 43 when you P47 is a 1945 P47. Our P51s are also 1945. That's how DCS is, its not because we don't know or don't care. It's that we have no choice.

  29. The video creator could have put our Phantom in a French Navy livery, and had it attacking a British Rapier site, and still called it a Wild Weasel mission. The term has been taken over for a modern meaning. I personally prefer SEAD/DEAD, but HUNTER/KILLER is also pretty cool. But its way easier to ask a wingman to Weasel that missile site so we can have a better chance at destroying it.

You might also want to create an end condition for the STE task so that it doesn't top the AI queue list indefinitely. I can't look at your mission right now, so apologies if what I said does not apply.

  36. You're still ranting instead of reporting bugs but at least we know it comes from love and passion. Your only hope is here: Get to grips with these terms... Standard Systems Modeling (SSM). A DCS module using SSM is characterized as including just the most essential cockpit systems and using keyboard and joystick commands only to interact with the cockpit. Examples of SSM in DCS include all of the Flaming Cliffs 3 aircraft. What is DCS World Early Access? Early Access is an option for you to play this module in an early state, but it will be incomplete with bugs. The time a product remains in Early Access can vary widely based on the scope of the project, technical hurdles, and how complete the module is when it enters Early Access. Eagle Dynamics and all of our third parties strive to make this period as short as possible. An Early Access module can be played on both the Open Beta and Release versions of DCS World. Once the module exits Early Access, you will automatically have the Release version. ...and your life will be easier The worst thing you can do is wait for something to appear in DCS.

  40. If you search the forum, this topic has been discussed extensively already. But even if someone has bought ONE module from ED, what's to stop them from abusing the free trials for all the other modules if they allowed this? Having to jump through a few hoops is not unreasonable considering they give you FULL access (not limited in any way like a lot of games do) to the module for 2 weeks every 6 months. IMHO that's pretty generous. The alternative is they take away the trials altogether.

  41. No, you're misinterpreting it, the only release date given is still winter 23/24. (Until end of March) As my attempt at a clarfication tries to say is that what Cobra meant is that the team is busy finishing off certain features to show those features off. He's not talking about the module in it's entirety. You can't just read "this week" and skip all the rest!

And yes, it is a good way to die, which is why the button is covered with a guard, with the guard lock-wired down to ensure the button is only activated when someone is stupid enough to deliberately break the lock-wire and press the button. The idea was that if I have some sort of tail rotor malfunction, and during the course of whatever emergency actions I am taking to land, I can (without taking my hand off the collective while flying) instantly bring the engines to idle to prevent the resulting torque increase during my landing "flare" from inducing a spin. Having said that, there are some peculiarities with that button I don't want to get into; but needless to say most 64 pilots wish it wasn't there. FYI, that function isn't present on all AH-64's, but certainly all in the US Army. Interestingly, in AH-64A's it wasn't a chop button, there was a chop collar. I know of at least one AH-64A crew that crashed (and survived thankfully) because they inadvertently used the chop collar when trying to rotate the friction collar on the collective grip.
