  2. Hello All. I believe I have found a error in the scheduling for the FCS. As you will see in the track I provided, performing the loop when I achieve less than or equal to 270kts, I immediately loss a G. Then on the backside of the loop after hitting around 360kts, the jet added the G back. At first I thought this was just due to the alpha ramping up and down but I was incorrect. I decided to do a horizontal turn to confirm my theory and yes, after 270 knots decelerating I noticed a drop in G and alpha. You can see this in the track. I have shown my controls indicator to show that I am not moving the stick at all during this test. Now what leads me to think it is a scheduling error is that if I speed up over 270kts but do not exceed 360kts, it does not have this weird behavior. My guess is that there is a hard edge in the schedule which is causing a rapid transition. I could be wrong about it being a scheduling error, but it's a starting place to investigate. Cheer's, Panic Hornet FCS Schedule Bug.trk

  3. The good thing about component wear is it permits simulation of the most important airpower dynamics: logistics. Having high tech aircraft is all well and good, but the capabilities are just one ingredient in the warfighting soup that is air power. Choosing an F-4 over an F-5 is a no brainer in a static environment. But if half your F-4s are broken for different reasons but 80% of your F-5s are ‘up’, now the dynamic is different. Next layer in situations like all your ‘cheaper’ F-5s are mission capable but your F-4s are flyable with degraded capability - say, no dive toss or PAVE Spike - and the choices get even murkier. Suddenly, other options you’d just disregard (like using less capable aircraft)become useful. Then there’s good old Murphys Law. You launch 4 F-4Es but two got over-Gd in the last sortie because they dodged SAMs after going off route to avoid interceptors. Now you’re down two jets and your campaign needs four - how do you solve this?

  4. 2/24/2024 - Update to version 7 - NEW cirrus cloud textures - Cirrus clouds now move and can be seen moving - Cirrus clouds don't fade in and out any longer. They don't change for 24 hours - Tuning and tweaks to several presets - Updated config files for compatibility with DCS 2.9.3.51704 **The cirrus cloud behavior and appearance are drastically changed in this update. There are 4 cirrus cloud textures and they usually are blended with each other, creating a variety of different looking skies. After loading a mission, if you want to change the look of the cirrus clouds simply re-load the mission by pressing SHIFT-R. Sometimes changing the date and/or time in the mission editor changes up the cirrus also. If you want to turn off cirrus clouds completely you can edit \Bazar\shaders\enlight\cirrus.fx in the MOD folder. Change line 36 in that file to: static const float cirrusThickness = 0; Make sure to disable/re-enable the mod in OVGME after making the change. If you think the new cirrus sucks and you want to go back to default delete the following files from the MOD folder and disable/re-enable in OVGME: \Bazar\shaders\enlight\cirrus.fx \Bazar\Effects\EffectTextures.zip Enjoy!

  6. Can I offer a suggestion to since you're now putting stock liveries into the game? Your grey colors for the standard line Vipers, both light and dark are too dark. Did you match these colors with the FS color counterparts? Either that or you're using reshade to take screenshots? If you're going to be making all the Viper liveries you should look up the gamma corrected color HEX values. Photos can be notoriously incorrect for color matching, since film has different exposures, tints and filters, and the film Processing can also have it's own color variations, same with the printed inks. Digital is even more notoriously bad since the inception of auto HDR (high dynamic range) which over and underexposes all the ranges of the image to make "hyper-details" pop. While a neat artistic expression, it's not accurate for true to life.

  7. This is why I removed most of my works from User files. However that said, you're now part of the ED stock textures. So you're going to find that this happens more and more as people use your stock liveries for their own purposes. While I find this to be a "low brow" behavior, you're going to have to come to terms with it if you put your free,.un-licemsed offerings into the public domain. The only way to limit that is to not put them out there. Or provide them to specific groups only who you trust to keep your work.

  14. I believe this is correct as is. Yes - it's just been introduced with the latest update, but I'm fairly sure it's correct as per the Operations for the Block 20 F/A18, and the change is to have the bingo behave as it does in real life. Edit: From the ops manual. (A web search on the below text should give you external references to manuals if you wish to double check, as I'm not going to post external links to PDF files here): The “Bingo” voice alert is activated when the BINGO caution comes on. With MC OFP 19C, the ″Bingo″ voice alert sounds every 30 seconds until the BINGO fuel level is set below current fuel on board. The correct procedure is to set a new bingo level. This method ensures that the pilot keeps hearing bingo, incase it's missed during a radio call, RWR or other distractions.

  15. The cirrus textures are WIP and I'll try improve on those. Its harder then it seems due to the way the textures are tiled across the sky. It makes it difficult to have much variation, such as different cirrus in different sections of the sky. IRL cirrus are pretty random and not uniform across the sky. The thing I hate about the stock textures is how bad they look up close. They look better or worse depending on the lighting but sometimes you can even see the lines from the method used to create a tiled texture.

  16. As Schmidtfire said, Viggen radar screen looked better at the beginning, the first version was the best, it even casted light onto things. Now it looks like a 2D sticker, and does not integrate with the cockpit at all.

  17. FINALLY FIGURED IT OUT! Now, this is where things gets interesting. AJS37: Viggen was released 7 years ago. DCS World looked very different back then, before big graphic changes that affected all the light-sources etc. Look at this screengrab from 7 years ago, 2017. It is much closer to what we are discussing about dialing in correct color of the green phosphor. From AJS37 Review by Ralfi When we finally made the jump onto the new graphic engine (around the release of Normandy 1). It affected all aircrafts in DCS. especially any type of lights. They became desaturated and bland under daylight conditions. And cockpits became very dark. Some modules was tweaked, others not so much. Viggens Radar scope in the new DCS World graphic engine was not an exception and ended up like this: This is what we have known for the last couple of years, but it certainly did not look like this at release. Watch any DCS: AJS37 video from 7 years ago and compare it to videos after the new graphics update. But this has been the new normal for a couple of years. We have gotten used to it. I think the initial version from 2017 is closer to what we have been trying to find in terms of what the actual radar looks like. Hilmerby probably knows best as he sat in front of the real thing, but looking at different materials from 2017-2018 It looks like HB sort of nailed the radar colors back in 2017. It was DCS World updates that changed the look of it. For reference:

  18. ...unless you use the new 4096x4096 sized texture, now named pilot_f18_helmet_hmd.dds, which you can get from the default textures FA-18C.zip. New correct entry for the diffuse texture on the description.lua is: {"pilot_F18_helmet_hmd", DIFFUSE, "pilot_f18_helmet_hmd", false}; Only the default grey helmet will load, until campaign and livery designers update their custom textures. NOT A BUG.

  20. I am still using the MT "":\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World OpenBeta\bin-mt\DCS.exe" --force_enable_VR --force_OpenXR" do I need to be doing these things at this time? Is there a more current recommendation to start the game? Prior to the last update, I thought that I had the jittering under control via some some of the recommended settings, I haven't tweaked anything in quite awhile, and gameplay is really bad imo. If I look anywhere except thru the canopy it's just jittery and bad, I don't mean to sound negative but at what point does gameplay get better? I mean, heaven forbid.. looking down and using the mouse to lower/raise gear and your view is jittery and becomes off center etc. I can seem to find the 5 key with VR set on lol, to re-center. What gives with this latest update and what is the future of this game? I was excited to get involved but as time goes on, I'm wondering.. I have a decent rig, 5800x, 4080, 32gb ram.. HP G2 in VR, I play other stuff very very smooth but DCS is fun but quite a challenge anymore in VR.

  28. Did you manage to get reshade working in VR MT? PS I managed to get it working by simply installing the latest version that supports OpenXR, and running in OpenXR. It does make the game look noticeably better! I did however encounter a weird effect, where the game crashes if I try to toggle labels. But I have played without labels for a few hours and it otherwise works well.

  37. Hello, may i ask how it looks like with radar rework, its quite a time after EA release and radar is still in quite poor state. Its still visual filter only instead of clutter, its low altitude performance is still quite absurd. Everywhere i look, its being said its low alt performance was terrible and sidelobes would clutter the scope and overpower targets returns. I cant really say about high alt but at high alt, it should be a lot about gain. Do you have any ETA for changes? Because its what now, 2years of not so great stand in which essentially works as full pulse doppler radar capable of tracking helicopters barely moving. No blind speeds typical for MTIs, no increased clutter from side lobes at low altitudes and so on. Its pretty much killing module for cold war scenarios as its radar extremely overperforms to real life claims so in return, you cant use fox1 missiles in case you want proper cold war jets in mix. Not to mention all i could find about R/S530F was lookup - coalt, no lookdown capabilities and in some literature even minimal altitude usage due to ground clutter. They are just pulse missiles. These things should be main focus now as radar is probably one of the major if not the most major part of fighter jet of this era.

  40. That was my original plan, I decided that I wanted to pursue the standalone mod after I got into it though T-38A is very different in relation to the C Less powerful, less complex, different exterior model, a completely new cockpit, like Coffee said there is another team working on it, and is probably much closer to release than mine . In terms of an AT-38, that is not an option we've explored yet, the C model has a wide variety of simulated weapons functions for the milsim squadron enthusiast, which is our initial target audience. Nothing is planned other than getting the modern C model up to scratch as much as possible. Once that point is reached, maybe, but at the same time I have a wishlist of several other cool aircraft too Cheers Hayds

  41. Thanks for linking the source. Now we have something to refer to and to base further discussions on. One thing is very obvious about the video - for anyone with a trained eye for photography/cinematography it is clear as day that the white balance in most of the clips are all over the place. The inaccurate white balance is the result of multiple things stacked together: the unreliable nature of the original medium (magnetic tapes of VCRs back then) + the digitization of the original medium which involves the encoder further losing information of the inaccurate original recording + YouTube compression and more layers of informational loss that don't need to be mentioned here one by one. Therefore relying on the total picture of such a video can result in very inaccurate interpretation of what the real thing looked like to the human eye. In the selected segment for the comparison above (at about 1:41), that clip has a very strong blue tilt in its white balance. This is easily verifiable by selecting any pixel inside the (supposedly) white compass bearing lines/digits and read off the RGB values there. A quick adjustment will yield a very different picture: direct screen crop from the video: white balance adjusted: We can see, the whole picture has now become a little bit milder, more yellow-ish, has less contrast which is actually leaning towards what the old radar scope color represents. Of course, I would also agree that the old one looks way more washed out than this quick adjustment picture. But the reality is probably somewhere in between with one thing for certain: to a human eye, the dynamic range would be much much higher than any photo-graphical medium could capture back in the days. So for the sake of the module, we should instead focus on how to represent what human perception could see - i.e. emulating a higher dynamic range even if it means artificially adjusting certain elements. And we should avoid dogmatically making it one-to-one on paper/by the numbers to an unreliable video.null

  44. Id like to add to the topic of maintenence and "swapping out" worn parts, that this is up to the mission designer and scenario to decide. What if your Phantom was created in a factory very late in a long war where the enemy shut down your supply of new parts and the tolerance for the jet has been reduced heavily. What if the jet was captured and used by a country that can't just replace tiles and has to work with what they got. The wear/tear system also tries to capture this aspect to give mission designers more options. And it might for example be highly relevant beyond fictional scenarios if we decide to perhaps make a WW2 prop plane in the future (just an example). Ultimately, no two Phantoms are absolutely identical. There are very subtle differences and you can feel that. Im aware that the wear and tear system and it's exact effects are vague and hard to grasp at the moment. Thats why we want to explain it later in more depth, for example in a video.
