We are committed to delivering a highly immersive and authentic representation of Afghanistan for virtual pilots to explore and engage in combat operations. Continued collaboration, testing, and refinement will ensure the map’s successful completion and release to our DCS community. Development Progress We have made substantial progress in recreating the diverse landscape of Afghanistan. This includes the rugged mountain ranges of the Hindu Kush, the vast deserts of the Dasht-e Kavir and Dasht-e Lut, and the fertile valleys and river basins. Efforts have been dedicated to accurately portraying the unique cultural and urban features of Afghanistan. This involves recreating cities like Kandahar and Herat, with special attention to landmarks, infrastructure, and architectural styles like the blue mosque of Herat. Aerial imagery has been utilised to enhance the realism and accuracy of the map. High-resolution satellite imagery is being integrated to provide authentic terrain textures and details. The diverse terrain and complex topography of Afghanistan has presented technical challenges due to the large mountainous ranges. Optimization efforts are ongoing to maintain performance without compromising on visual fidelity, particularly in densely populated urban areas and detailed terrain features. The map is designed to look equally as good from low to high altitude. Future Plans In the above screenshot, you can see the area of DCS: Afghanistan that will be available in Early Access. Source: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/news/newsletters/8a53b9baafb8473116ad05970cd8a761/ Info on the PFM used from the FC3 version: Full-fidelity MiG-29 will use the same flight model. Actually, that’s not 100% accurate. The autopilot will receive new functionality and modes, and certain issues with closed-loop system stability will be corrected, along with new undercarriage characteristics. But the core FM is probably one of the most accurate we have. IFF Info: On release of the MiG-29A, it will include a basic IFF system, later on after some RnD we will create a more advanced IFF system. This was the plan from the start, it was just lost in drawing up the newsletter, we apologize for any concerns it might have caused. Thanks!

  4. Status update. Still working on the US asset pack update. You tend to forget how much work it takes to create a larger ship in DCS. Doesn't matter how many you've created before, and how streamlined your process is, there is still a ton of work. I think @Admiral189 would agree. The Constellation is more or less done, the Arleigh Burke Flight III is getting there, mostly tweaking and testing left. Especially with the missiles.

  6. So about the Tracker. Good news and bad. The good news is I was able to code the plane as a functional AWACS aircraft. I was also able to do the same with the UK Fairey Gannet. and things were good. Then... the 2.9 broke them. They will no longer take off from the deck. They do the control surface check but then just sit on the catapult and never take off. I do believe they will still take off from land. That fact that both mods are stuck on the ship leads me to think there is something wrong after the update with the way I made them AWACS mission capable. I'll try and get them sorted this weekend

11. Round one of flight testing is complete for both Type 002 and Type 003. Files have been sent to MOD creator/team. Final placement and number of aircraft will be up to them. I will continue trying to refine and update them with any improvements I come up with. And once again some outstanding Mods/work being done in this thread and it's my pleasure to help in any way I can. But now I think I'm going to actually play the game with these mods and build some epic missions Thanks again for all the hard work

  12. Sadly it seems you are trying to find negativity in this announcement, I do not understand the point you are trying to make here. First I have played hundreds upon hundreds of missions on the Caucasus map with Blue and Red aircraft and enjoyed my time there. I am not sure what your rules are towards "semi-convincing/plausible mission" but I have never flown one and said, boy this is unrealistic and I am not having fun aside from the fact I am sitting in my house on a computer. So if you are saying you cannot make mission on a map that are not fun based on them having to be plausible then I think you not letting your imagination flow. The same goes with the Early Access portion of Afghanistan, you will be able to see up what I consider to be at the very least "semi-convincing/plausible mission" such as COIN but why limit yourself... draw a line in the sand, put red on one side and blue on the other and create a story and just have fun, like every other map in DCS. I think some are just overthinking this waaaaay too much, but also this is not a mandatory purchase if it isn't your thing then we understand like any of our modules while we appreciate every purchase we understand not every one is for everyone.

  14. The title should be "DCS: Afgha" since half of the country is missing. Jokes aside, from the newsletter it's unclear whether the eastern part will be added at some point after the Early Access, or the western half is all we get.

  16. I'd like to introduce Livery Link, a desktop application for managing custom liveries. I've been working on this for a few months now and although it's still incomplete, there are a few people using it and I think it's in a state where I'm happy to share with the wider community. The primary function is to make it trivial to install liveries (see the video below). In addition to this, it can also automatically share liveries with other people. So far, I loved building this, I really hope you enjoy it! For those interest in the server, I've created a Server Functionality Poll to get a feel for the kind of features people would like to see added. Download Visit https://github.com/Camble/LiveryLink for more information click the download button for the latest version. User Files link: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3339586/ See it in use: Key Features Paste in a User Files URL to automatically install a livery The Livery Browser displays your installed liveries with nice thumbnails Plenty of options in case you don't like a specific feature Automatically share and download liveries (with other users of Livery Link) Installation No installation required, extract anywhere you like and run. FAQs Q. How does Livery Sharing work? A. In order to share liveries to other players, they must also have Livery Link, and the server you are flying on must be running Livery Link Server. Q. How do I enable livery sharing? A. Simply install liveries with Livery Link, and use those liveries on a Livery Link enabled server. Q. How do I send liveries to people? A. If you're sporting a livery that was installed with Livery Link, it will be shared automatically as soon as you take off. Q. How do I receive other people's liveries? A. If connected to a Livery Link server and a player shares a custom livery, Livery Link will download and install it automatically. Q. What if I don't want to share liveries? A. This feature can be disabled, or tweaked to your liking.

  20. Hi all, I hope this post finds everyone well. I'm not really a big-time poster here on the forums, so apologies if this post is in the wrong area or not the right thread. With the pending releases of the Afghanistan and Iraq maps and the introduction of Global War on Terrorism ground unit participants (insurgents, insurgent-type vehicles, etc.), I wanted to offer my experiences as a USMC JTAC to any of those who are looking to get a more realistic experience with JTACs in their campaigns, missions, or even to Eagle Dynamics (who I'm sure have a long list of individuals with a wealth of knowledge regarding this topic). While DCS does an okay implementation of an AI JTAC, it leaves a lot to be desired. Ranging from Air Control Measures, actual communications and their meaning, the execution of the 12-step process for CAS, rotary wing 5-lines, to Gunship/Apache Call for Fire, I'd be more than happy to advise on the implementation of such unit types to get the highest level of immersion. Having completed my first campaigns (FIWOS and Debden Eagles Campaigns) and seeing how much room there is for customization and scripting, I think there could be a lot to explore with JTAC implementation within campaigns and missions. I'm sure there are more JTACs/TACPs/CCTs in the community that would also be willing to chime in, but I figured I'd get the ball rolling as I haven't found any sort of posts for advisement/implementation. In short, I'm here to help the DCS community get the most immersive experience when flying campaigns and missions. Let me know if I can be of any assistance. Thank you for your time and happy flying!

  23. This is not an improvement with Update 1.2. There is no assignment for the Eyes texture. As a result, the faces have no eyes. If the glass texture had been given the name "Sk60_glass" the problem as shown in the pictures above would not have happened. There are around 15 textures with the same name “glass” in the tech folder, with several ship mods available. Both cockpit models and the main model have the same assignment "CANOPY GLASS", which means that ED's glass.hlsl influences the texture. The transparent area corresponds to only 10% of the setting range from fully transparent to no longer transparent of the alpha channel. So at black 0 it is fully transparent and at 15 of 255 it is no longer transparent. The transparency settings for the cockpit glass of the flight model are better, so that you could create a colored glass if the assignment did not have the same name and therefore the same texture was loaded. Proposal to change cockpit "CANOPY GLASS COCKPIT" and flight model "COCKPIT GLASS". Since the other glasses in the cockpit are also affected by ED's HLSL, I would assign these areas to the COCKPIT GLASS. And please, on a texture of 4096x4096 there is enough space so that the areas do not have to overlap, as is the case now.

You can enter on the database.lua and change all the names of the assets adding a "M92_" (only for those that did NOT have "M92_" in their name) in front of them. BUT, have in mind, that this can cause crashes with previous versions. In some of the assets will solve the problem.

  33. How about you have a look at what Karon writes? He's not a professional, but he wrote a lot of great articles for the F-14 from the RIO point of view, many of them about interception and BVR combat, all of them based on RL material, conversations with SMEs and a healthy dose of guesswork! He has a new section about the F-4 and will keep writing about it. https://flyandwire.com/the-f-4e-weapon-systems-officer/

  34. Honestly, First that arrangement is wasting a lot of Pixels, under Screens 3 and 4, and under screen 1. Just remember, the total width and height is rendered, so even the space that isn't occupied by a screen is still rendered. So you have Screen 1, then the 4K Screen 2, then Smaller Screen 3 and 4. You're looking at 8000 x 2160 total rendered area ( 17,280,000 Px), and you are only seeing maybe 66% of that. as you have a 1200x1560 section of empty space under the MFD screens, and another 2560 x 720 section under the Left 1440p .Screen I'd Honestly move the MFD Screens underneath the 1440P screen in the array, which would cut about 1600x2160 pixels from being rendered on the right side totally. and adjust the LUA file to match the new coordinates. Assuming those screens are 800x600 each. you add 1600 x 600 under the 2560x1440p Screen, 2160Px (Max Vertical of the 4K screen) 2040Px (Max Vertical of the 1440P + 2x 800P screens below it) So max Render Height would be 2160. 3840 (Max Horizontal of the 4K screen), + 2560 (Max Horizontal of the 1440P) So Max Render wifth would be 6400 So your total rendered space would be 6400x2160, or 13,824,000 Px. with only 400x600 Empty space on the left and right sides of the MFD Screens, and 120x2560 under the 1440P and MFD Screens. You would drastically cut your Pixels rendered by 3,456,000 Px or 20%, at that high of a rendering area, 20% is ALOT. Have the 4K as the Primary, then the 1440P and 800x600 Screens as extended, to the left, Set MainView as: Viewports = { Center = { x = 2560; y = 0; width = 3840; height = 2160; viewDx = 0; viewDy = 0; aspect = 1.777777777777778; } } Then Set the MFDs as: F_16C_LEFT_MFCD = { x = 0; y = 1440; width = 600; height = 600; } F_16C_RIGHT_MFCD = { x = 800; y = 1440; width = 600; height = 600; } Also, The Corrupted Problem on your 4K Display, is the MFDs being rendered before the viewport, and your coordinates are likely wrong. Move the MFD Declaration below the Viewports { }. Add them UIMainview. They cannot be set before the main viewport, nor inside the viewport { } As for Negative set screens comment above. I run 5 extended screens, 2 of which are to the left of the Windows primary, and I have no issues setting negative coordinates.

  37. Hi, DimSim. Welcome to the Club Of People Thrilled With Control Assignment Commands Written By AI . In short The PTWCACWBA Club. We need to think of a shorter name for the club. To answer your question: No, you can't throw a separate file in Saved Games... I mean technically you can, but while it won't break anything, it won't do anything, either. And no - there's no easy way around what you want to achieve. I wish there was! If you don't want to modify game files - which in itself is a viable option but requires a means to PRESERVE your changes across DCS updates - you may also use the "Quaggle's Input Command Injector" (link below). What the thing does is more or less what you're thinking about - it "injects" additional control commands on top of "official" commands in game files, using commands stored in separate files put in the Saved Games folder, exactly as you wish. Personally I don't use the mod, but frankly... I SHOULD! One day I'll get down to it. Then you might want to peek at Munkwolf's "DCS Community Bindings" (again, link below). It's a sort of control commands library that can be used with the aforementioned "Injector" (or without it). It contains thousands of handcrafted commands not available in DCS out of the box. https://github.com/Quaggles/dcs-input-command-injector https://github.com/Munkwolf/dcs-community-keybinds PS. I especially like it when a CRS or similar knob, in some aircraft, when driven by a rotary encoder or such, has a "step" not being a multitple of 1°. For example, 0.916541°. That's fun!

  40. I figured it out. It is door gunners that cause the tracks to break. It is 100% repeatable. I have done a large number of replays with the Huey and never had an issue. I just started making missions where I was using door gunners and the tracks have been breaking ever since. For now, if you want a Huey replay just do not use door gunners. You can have them equipped, you just can't let them fire. I have attached a few tracks for an example. I tried to keep them as simple as possible and short as possible. That said, the ground fire can get a lucky hit in sometimes and just take out the huey, but I have not had that happen in multiple replays of these tracks. Just an FYI. No Guns With Guns I also have a few videos uploading as I type as proof. I will edit and link once they are done. Maybe we can have @Flappie push this along. NoGun.trk WithGun.trk

  42. Well, today I finally found the Sale price of the MB339 more tempting and so I purchased it for myself before the current sale ends. I'm a bit ashamed of waiting almost 1.5 years to buy, but that is the buyers prerogative ... I'm happy with the purchase and I'm currently enjoying its training missions, I'm tempted to convert them for training on the South Atlantic map, but I'm still finishing my Viggen projects. Cheers.

  43. Subscriptions are the bane of modern society. A perfect way to slowly cook the frog without it noticing. I absolutely love ED for the fact, that they stay away from the idea! @BIGNEWY can you say something to the idea, that the random slowdowns some of the F4 beta testers experienced, are similar in nature or maybe in some way connected to the random stutters/slowdowns that some people unfortunately still experience with 2.9? Perhaps advancements achieved by Heatblur can benefit DCS as a whole?

The development of the La-7 flight model is now complete, and the assembly and preparation of the necessary documentation for certification is in progress. Unique features have been implemented like the decrease in lifting force when the side cowl flaps are fully opened due to the deterioration of the aerodynamics of the wing root. The above graph demonstrates expected and actual La-7 performance in DCS. From this and other reports, OctopusG will be providing an excellent simulation of the flight performance and characteristics of this famous warbird. An armament system has been completed and includes a bomb-aiming control system. Please enjoy this DCS: La-7 Bombing video and pay special attention to the mechanical details. In this second short video, the cockpit canopy locking system is demonstrated: La-7 Canopy mechanics. In this example, it is important to note that the effect of airflow is present. A wide collection of liveries are being prepared that will continue to expand. The damage model is complete, a quick manual has been written, and 2D for the GUI art has been created. The product is now being finalized for early access. Please stay tuned for the planned launch date. Esquadra 701 MP Server The Portuguese virtual squadron Esquadra 701 celebrated six years of operation this year with nearly 5000 hours in operations. This group established A-10C, AV-8B, F-15E, F-16C F/A-18C, and AH-64D training procedures based on real-life operations. It is divided into three divisions: the land-based 1st Division "Talons", the carrier-based 2nd Division "Makos", and the training and support 3rd Division "Pythons". The group also has a sub-division for helicopter and aerobatic team operations, the "Lusitanos". Esquadra 701 runs a dedicated server for training and scheduled missions. They also have a very active Discord server that is open to all. The squadron regularly organises events to bring new pilots to the group, called "Open Skies" on Discord. Thank you again for your passion and support, Yours sincerely,

  48. A flying I-pad with a lot of electronics and very little guns. Nah, I'll pass, give me an F-4E any day. The F-35B is interesting because VTOL, but otherwise not really all that great. There'd be no comparable assets for it. I think the early F-18E/F is the furthest forward in time that DCS should attempt to go (and that's only because of Top Gun 2 and that ancient Superbug sim that I'm rather fond of). Anything beyond that is too much of a flying computer IMO. The real fun is in Cold War era heater+gun dogfights, anyway.
