  1. Heatblur Simulations: Towering over the improvements to the F-14, feature additions to the F-4E and addition of other elements; the biggest development challenge ahead for our team lies with DCS: Eurofighter and getting this mighty jet in your hands. As we progress we look forward to sharing more snippets of development as we start targeting release. There is still a lot of work to be done; but we're excited to experience the Eurofighter together with you all in the virtual skies.

  4. Rhein-Ruhr could hardly be left out since at least half of cold war NATO airbases in Germany were west or at least close to it. People shouldn't only focus on American related Ramstein, Spangdahlem and Bitburg exclusively. Cold War air bases would rely on Büchel, Nörvenich and NATO at Geilenkirchen as well. Also RAF bases in Germany like Laarbruch, Wildenrath, Brüggen and Gütersloh.

  5. Regarding the size and complexity of the map it will come down to a good piece of art to give the people the "feeling" of flying over germany while not modelling everything correctly. From the short clips it looks very promising. Eastern germany with Berlin is already been shown and Mendig in central-west Germany. I hope it will go further down to get Ramstein into it. Bavria and the alps would be amazing. We'll see. For me this is was the best tease of this year, and I'm very much looking forward to see more. We've seen bits here and there, but the shots of Berlin and the landscape seems to be very promising.

  6. Hello Hind lovers. I want to ask ppl on this side of forum if they want to have more situational awareness then we have with SPO-10`s 4 lamps. If someone will check In flight manual, then he will find L006LM mention. And if someone will tell you that L006LM was not used at russian Hinds, I have some pictures with L006LM installed. So, we live in time when Kiowa have no APKWS in operators manual, but has it in DCS, and Hind have L006LM in real life but not have it in game. Funny situation, isn`t it? I hope that ED will use their full fidelity MiG-29A experience with L006LM for our Hind. If ED think L006LM "too overpowered they can add it as variable option in armament menu. So, if you are interested in this feature, you can vote or comment. Thanks. Mention about L006LM in manual and some russian Hinds equipped with SPO-15:

  7. Hopefully the promised DTC/Mission planner will arrive in two weeks. I propose a feature that is rarely mentioned when it comes to mission planning: A proper kneeboard manager with the following features: View and organize custom pages (from user folder), select which pages (stock and custom) to take for the mission Avoid having to skip through endless pages that you don't need for that sortie Allow to mark custom pages as favorite Ability to auto-populate pages with mission data (frequencies, navigation info, briefing overview etc.) Would be huge for mission designers who can concentrate on more important things than copy/pasting frequencies Would create much more usable kneeboards and would allow to fly without F10 map even on missions without custom hand-made kneeboard pages Auto-generate airport charts of selected airports Select which parts of the map to include in which scale Option to transfer map markers from the briefing to the kneeboard maps or even include custom doodles/notes Thanks!

  8. I was tempted to ask for a refund at first, especially since the "situation" had killed all the enthusiasm I had for the module. But after mulling it over for a few days I decided to wait till the end and see how it goes before decide if ask for a refund or not: the Mudhen is a damn good module and I hope for a good outcome.

  10. Hey everyone. Real life and other issues got in the way for the last year or so. I just got to get back into things a bit in the last week. LOTS of CHANGES. I've got the enhancement mod working on V3 of the F22 in the current 2.9.12 DCS. The displays all work etc. It was actually just one line on the entry.lua that needed to be changed to call the new FC3 2024 FM I assume. Now...what doesn't work? Well, that FC3 FM seems to have changed and limited what can be done with SFM. Before, the F22 would supercruise at altitude and I spent a lot of time tweaking those things to use the actual thrust values of the engines. Now...well...I think it flies like an F15 with maybe more thrust. I don't know of a way to adjust/correct that at this time without an EFM. The FCS stuff was removed from V3 of the F22 as it now uses that FC3 FM we're talking about. The controls that used to modify the FCS are inoperative. Those parts of the displays are not just informational but don't cause any harm. I quoted the above as I too found a couple of issues with the avionics in the V3 F22 that I don't know yet how to fix. Don't get excited lol. RPM limited to 96% as others have stated and the EGT is higher than is used to be causing the gauges to go red as if the engines were on fire. The above work on the avionics LUA will allow the RPM to go up to 110 but it will not go LOWER than 67. So, even off on the ramp your RPM gauges show 67%. I think I grasp what was done and it was a modification to the RMP amount indicated so that it will read a range from 67-110 but not below 67. As for the EGT....I've got some ideas, what's interesting to me is that they will actually change color properly at the thresholds from green>yellow>red and back again. Unfortunately, normal operation is in the red. I don't know if I can adjust the values, but I CAN adjust the gauge colors at those transition points. I'm very happy to see that v3 has all of the files unencrypted. That's fantastic for the community as a whole and for modding. I don't plan to start over again with the unencrypted files as I put a ton of time into what's already done for the enhancement mod. Like, I worked on it for some two years here and there making changes and adding things. Never say never, but for right now, I don't have the time to dedicate to starting all over. I'll be tweaking the EGT at least and poking around at the RPM issue. If anyone has any ideas on how to get the original functionality back, that'd be awesome. @talagompie thank you for your efforts. It's certainly an option. The downside is on cold starts. I'm not sure which is better, not going above 96% or not going below 67%. The uploads have all been updated. Links in the first post.

  15. I Just want to warn people about buying from WINWING from china. I had a really bad experience, bought a HOTAS and it hot stuck at the customs, they returned it to winwing, and they didn't want to resend it to me and they've kept the money. Basically stole from me. Instead of shipping the hots in a single box like warthog or logitech does, they send separate little boxes like 5 of them and so the customs reject them because they think its 5 prods of the same product when max is 3.

  16. This is a bit subjective, but to me the USN bomb textures appear too shiny when compared to photographic reference. In DCS they seem to have the same roughness as the non-coated USAF variants, while in reality they are "rougher" and therefore less shiny. Maybe they're using the wrong normal- and/or roughness maps?

  17. Personally, I much appreciate that yourself and Management does recognize the importance. I also understand that the fix will never be super high priority. Maybe one of your team is a skinning enthusiast and might be able to invest some time. Please keep us up to date even if it's "nothing to report at this time".

  18. We are looking at what makes the most sense, right now the top thing would be at least a refresh texture option in the sim to allow changes to be loaded, but it all takes time and its about having someone free to work on it. I am still keeping on it though, and Management does recognize that its important to offer these features.

  37. Fair enough. I just hope we'll also get Bavaria and the Alps. It would be the the most ambitious DCS map by far... I'm from the Rhein/Ruhr area myself and have no special affinity towards Bavaria, but -oh boy- would it be great for flying in DCS... even if strategically a little bit less relevant than other areas...

  39. Heatblur posted something about the upcoming news for the F-14 on Facebook (and propably other platforms). I'm really looking forward to the early A model - seems with the RWR, we'll have to get used to some new workflows. See their post on Facebook: Tomcat Update! In some ways; 2025 is a... - Heatblur Simulations | Facebook One thing I don't get, though: Why does Heatblur point out the Expanded Chaff Adaptor and the ECM pod as news? Those have been around for a long time now.

  41. Yeah, i'm mostly skeptical of the feasibility and benefits of Rhein/Ruhr area. That's what i meant with "deep" west. It could be easily omitted without necessarily loosing the airbases in the South-West. The main drawbacks i see from omitting Rhein/Ruhr is that this would probably also cut off Benelux. I think it would be a good compromise, if that would allow for the complete North-South coverage...

  43. BO-105 - DE-ICING The Critical Role of Air Intake Anti-Icing Systems in Turbine Engine Performance The air intake system is a fundamental component of any turbine engine, directly influencing engine performance, efficiency, and safety. Under specific meteorological conditions, ice accretion within the air intake can significantly restrict airflow, posing a severe risk to engine operation. A pertinent example is the Allison 250 turboshaft engine, which features an air intake diameter of merely 10 cm—small enough to be obstructed by something as trivial as a compacted snowball. Ice accumulation reduces the mass flow rate of air to the compressor, potentially leading to compressor stall or, in extreme cases, complete engine flameout. Mechanisms of Ice Formation in Air Intakes Contrary to common assumptions, ice can form within the air intake even when ambient temperatures are above freezing. This phenomenon is primarily driven by the thermodynamic effects of pressure and temperature changes within the intake system. The air intake does more than channel ambient air toward the compressor; the compressor actively induces a pressure drop in the intake, resulting in adiabatic cooling. For instance, if the ambient atmospheric pressure is standard (1013 hPa), the induced pressure within the air intake may decrease to approximately 960 hPa due to compressor suction. This pressure drop leads to a corresponding temperature decrease of around 3°C. Consequently, ambient air at 2°C can cool to -1°C within the intake duct. Additionally, the rapid reduction in pressure causes moisture in the incoming air to condense into microdroplets. Upon contact with the sub-zero inner surfaces of the air intake, these droplets freeze, leading to ice accretion. This process mirrors the sublimation of water vapor into frost on cold surfaces, a phenomenon observable on frosted windows during winter. Design and Functionality of Air Intake Anti-Icing Systems To mitigate the risk of ice formation, turbine engines are equipped with sophisticated anti-icing systems that maintain the air intake's internal surfaces above freezing temperatures. These systems typically utilize bleed air extracted from intermediate stages of the compressor. After ambient air enters the intake, it undergoes compression to pressures reaching approximately 6500 hPa, with corresponding temperature increases to around 250°C by the fifth stage of the compressor. At this stage, a pilot-controlled bleed valve allows a portion of this high-temperature, high-pressure air to be diverted and routed to the air intake’s outer skin. The hot bleed air heats the intake structure, thereby preventing moisture from condensing and freezing on the internal surfaces. Operational Implications and Performance Trade-Offs While bleed air anti-icing systems are effective in preventing ice formation, their use introduces certain operational trade-offs. Diverting bleed air from the compressor reduces the mass airflow available to the combustion chamber, impacting both the combustion efficiency and overall engine performance. This reduction necessitates an increase in fuel flow to maintain the required turbine inlet temperatures (TIT), which, in turn, affects the engine's specific fuel consumption (SFC). Moreover, during engine start-up—particularly under cold-soak conditions—activating the anti-icing system can prolong the time required to achieve the kerosene flash point of approximately 48°C in the combustion chamber. This extended start-up cycle increases the electrical load on the aircraft’s battery system, potentially limiting the number of available start attempts in battery-dependent start configurations. Additionally, bleed air is frequently utilized for environmental control systems (ECS), including cabin pressurization and heating. The concurrent demand for bleed air in both anti-icing and ECS functions can further diminish available engine power, particularly in high-demand flight phases such as takeoff and climb. Conclusion The air intake anti-icing system should be engaged whenever the outside air temperature drops below +2°C, as these conditions are conducive to ice formation. Such temperatures are commonly encountered both on the ground during the autumn and winter seasons and at altitude when traversing the freezing level during ascent. However, it is imperative for flight crews to consider the operational penalties associated with anti-icing system activation, including increased fuel consumption, reduced engine performance, and potential impacts on aircraft range, service ceiling, and payload capacity. Efficient management of the anti-icing system, in accordance with the aircraft’s operating manual and prevailing atmospheric conditions, is essential to ensuring both flight safety and optimal engine performance. Simulation Accuracy with MEDUSA The programming with MEDUSA will simulate these processes with a high degree of realism, accurately reflecting real-world engine behavior and the operational dynamics of the anti-icing system.

  44. They are actually all implemented and functional. Its just that you cant interact with them currently (yet). They are all connected to the corresponding systems and if you could pull one of them the corresponding system would not have power anymore. The CB-fidelity is there, you just cant experience it yet. The problem with making them interactable is that you are going down to 1 FPS and DCS also starts to crash when you just add 200 more clickables in the cockpit. It is super unfortunate but the regular way DCS wants you to make clickables does not work for that amount of switches anymore. That said, we have a few ideas how we could work around and tackle the issue - which is also why we went the effort in coding and connecting all the CBs in the code from day one. Right now we only made the really important CBs clickable, which are the ones in the Pilot Cockpit. Cheers
