Just to expand on this, for the sake of clarity, there's no balance in DCS from a mechanical or developer deemed perspective. Balance is decided upon and created by the mission makers.3 points
-
ED already said that there would be no more FC-level modules released in the future. PS: And "balance" is a gaming concept, while this is a Simulator, not a game3 points

I refunded the F-15SE after waiting for almost a year for a positive resolution. However, I still own the M-2000, the Mig-19 and the Harrier ... but your qualification above puzzled me a bit: instead of just saying that "they will continue to work", there is that "with DCS 2.9" phrase .... does that mean that when DCS 3.0 is released, my old Razbam modules might not work any longer?3 points

Don't pull the RPM lever down with the mouse, that's a bug, the Corsair's engine is rated for 2700 RPM maximum. Also be aware that at altitude the air density is less and the IAS will read lower values the higher you go, use the info bar at the bottom of your screen to read the True Air Speed (TAS) value (Ctrl+Y I believe). To achieve maximum speed at sea level use full RPM (2700 RPM) and full throttle (manifold pressure will be around 58-59 inHg I believe). Close your oil cooler and intercooler flaps for minimum drag, cowl flaps can also be closed or keep them open about 1/4th to 1/3rd to keep the engine itself from overheating. Use your rudder pedals to stay coordinated (keep the ''ball'' in the middle, use the slip indicator on the gun sight for instance). At altitude, use the supercharger (blower) to maintain the maximum manifold pressure. Remember that in the Corsair max blower means pulling the lever back, not fully forward. Open the intercooler flap about halfway to keep the supercharger cool. Using this I'm able to reach the F4U-1D's official top speeds as in the official charts. It's a lot to keep in mind but after some practice all these actions become second nature Good luck!3 points

The Luftwaffe MIG29G's which were 9.12A based were modified to carry them. G limit wise they are 4G same as Cl tank feeding, +6G empty with the cl tank empty Aircraft Limit. I believe other nationalities were moded as well. The Malysaian MIG29;s were based on the 9.12 Airframe and carried Wing Drop tanks. Though their aircraft were modified with Flight Refueling probe and R77 capable as well ... so sort of a Hybrid 9.12/.9.13 with out the spine. The MIG29's (9.12) of the Russians/MIG OKB that toured the US/Canada in 1990 also carried them.3 points

Absolutely, donations are always very appreciated, since I still purchase a lot of models which will go into the mod packs.3 points

In this post a M. developer stated that they are waiting for bridle support from ED. Might take a while Meantime I split the Skyraider in two configs, an AD-4 Skyraider without bridle, and an A-1H Skyraider with bridle mechanimation. Testing is currently ongoing. Stay tuned, hopefully we find time for a release of Vietnam War Vessels 2.0.0 later this month.3 points

I noticed ALL my F-14 Variants when used as a static object are showing the older A chin pods. Nice to see it in game (kind of), but it doesn't match the B squadrons in my missions2 points

Would you appreciate a Black Sheep campaign using Marianas as a South to North, Solomon's stand-in? We start north, work south. If we go south to north as in real life, then the islands get smaller and less dramatic which is a no-go. If we go north to south, then Guam can be "Choiseul" etc. A base in the middle can be "Reketa Bay" Otherwise we're dealing the final battles over Pagan which I just cant' do...or fly out of Rota, north to Siapan as "Bougainville" just weighing options here. North to south would take some suspension of disbelief obviously, but in my view a minor thing over all. However I want to know how you guys feel.2 points

Dear ED-Team, I am shocked, we still do not have any button to recenter the Cross/Mouse Pointer if we are in VR. This should be a Step 1 for ED to please the VR-People. I can not understand what kind of issue can hinder you to make this dream come true? !!!!Every!!!!! VR-Gamer would pay for such a Button. You (ED) said, you are proud of us, please show it with enabling a Button we can press to recenter the Mouse Pointer/Cross in the center of our view. Show us how proud you are with doing such an easy task in the near time (please no 2 weeks ;)). Thank you2 points

I just found that disabling "Shader Cache Size" on nVidia control panel (maybe there is something similar on AMD cards too) triples or even quadruples loading times in DCS. Consider enabling that function if your disabled it or keep at 'driver default'. I did disabled it for testing purposes and found out long loading times in DCS. Enabling at 5gb made DCS go from 3 minutes 50 seconds + at loading a mission to only 50 seconds. Probably same applies to leaving at 'Driver Default'.2 points

I'd never used a Quest Pro for long. Could test it 3 Times. Not long enough to compare it with others. With DFR enabled I can hold 72 FPS. The trick was, I'd run my Crystal OG with the Companion App from Tally Mouse. My Resolution was 240 %. So running the Crystal Super @165 % resolution with my current settings isn't a big difference. At first I was a little bit disappointed looking around inside the Cockpit. I couldn't see any difference. That changed completely as soon I was looking outside of the Cockpit. I can read all the traffic signs of the Airport from the triple distance, and they are razor sharp. You don't have to guess anymore from the distance, you can read it like in RL (300 feet). The sharpness in the distance, this is the real thing where the Crystal Super shines. This sharpness in the distance is awesome. But, I have to say there are limits with a 4090. To get all of the Super, you have to go with a 5090. 30-40 % more performance in VR is a huge number of Frames you can invest in your settings. At the end it's all about money... again.2 points

Fighter wing Skrydstrup is situated in the southeren part of the danish peninsula of jylland, where two squadrons of F-16AM´s are based atm. one of the squadrons are actievly being refittet with the F-35A for future capabilites and being intergrated into multidomain operations. The Danish bases of Skrydstrup and Flyvestation Aalborg served as the primary bases for Danish F-16s during the Cold War. They played an important role as NATO’s gateway to the Baltics. Denmark purchased 77 F-16s, which were organized into four squadrons—two at each base. At Aalborg, ESK-723 and ESK-726 were the first squadrons to be upgraded to AMLU standards. Later, the older F-16As at Skrydstrup were either sold or scrapped. The Danish Defense decided to move all remaining Danish F-16s to Skrydstrup, thereby assigning ESK-727 and ESK-730 the newer, upgraded F-16s—aircraft that had already seen deployment in the Balkans in the late 1990s. Video from mid 2000 of Skrydstrup (only in danish) Fighter Wing Skrydstrup has been around since World War II and was originally built by the Germans, who called it Fliegerhorst Hadersleben. During the Cold War, the base was upgraded to NATO standards by the Danish Defense, enabling it to accommodate both American-supplied aircraft and the older F-35 (Swedish Draken). Today, the base features a combination of old and new HAS (Hardened Aircraft Shelters) across the airfield. The Danish F-16AMs have been a crucial part of Baltic air defense, with the Danish QRA (AVB – Afvisningsberedskabet) on standby 24/7, 365 days a year. Whenever Russian or unidentified aircraft approach Danish airspace—most often near the island of Bornholm, which is included in Phase 2—interceptors are launched to respond. Skrydstrup also acts as a host nation airbase during training exercises like Ramstein, which brings foreign aircraft such as Gripens and F-18s from Hungary, Sweden, and Finland to operate from this strategically located base—a key choke point in the Baltic Sea. I truly hope that Ugra Media will be able to recreate this airbase in the same way they did with Soesterberg Air Base maneuver. If they include this airfield, I would definitely hope that Ugra will also add the Rømø Shooting Range, located on one of the islands just west of the airfield. Rømø serves as a training area for the Royal Danish Air Force, supporting air-to-air combat (dogfighting), air-to-ground exercises, and other operational activities. (fun fact we had an F-16AM pilot eject from his plane over Rømø island. youtube: HED ejection) Really hope this can happen and Ugra sees this truly Pingodingo2 points

Correct, 15. The system gets even crazier trying to figure out the letters and numbers together. (not the Letters on the tail fin)2 points

It's been modelled with AN/ALQ-165 (AFAIK accurate for USMC aircraft of the timeframe - USN aircraft should have AN/ALQ-126B for the timeframe). There's a rotary switch in front of the stick, simply place it to XMIT. The jammer will automatically start transmitting when a radar in a track/fire-control mode is detected and will automatic cease transmitting when a radar in a track/fire-control mode is no longer detected. See page 415-417 of the manual in Mods\aircraft\FA-18C\Doc2 points

I too had been suffering similar woes after transferring my DCS install to a new hard drive. I'd spent a couple of days trying to figure out what was wrong and stumbled upon this thread. I definitely had the same crashing problems. Tried uninstalling Tacview but it didn't cure it. For me it was the pagefile size on the new drive. In retrospect I think I'd been labouring with a pagefile that was too small for years. But this thread was the catalyst for my own personal lightbulb moment. Cheers Paul2 points

Looking forward to that. I'm one of those nerds who uses every switch according to checklist even if it does nothing in the simulation . But this switch is rather difficult to see and reach, so a binding will be great.2 points

To any new Hornet pilots (or any Hornet pilot really), there is a user by the name of Gunthrek who recently made a 4-part training module series for the Hornet covering Cold Starts, Navigation, Carrier Ops, A/A, A/G- it's really an amazing tutorial series that I highly recommend. He recently stated he won't be updating any further due to time constraints so another user by the name Bagel has taken over and has been (and still is) performing a whole slew of updates to the modules. Here is the link to the newly updated 'Gunthrek Academy: F/A-18 Hornet - Bagel Fixpack Edition' oh and FYI- each lesson is a complete training mission from cold start to engine shutdown so expect the full pilot experience https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3344992/2 points

What makes you think that it would require much time? At present, they have a changing sea state. Just that it’s set directly by the wind. All that’s needed basically speaking is an option to set it separately to the wind setting. While I agree with you with the other stuff, with this we’re not exactly asking for a new feature, but more just an alternative way to set an already existing feature. As such, I don’t see any performance issues with it, or significant development required either. If anything, I suspect it’d be one of those relatively simple things to implement that gives another showpiece to show the evolution of DCS. Decent return on investment really.2 points

Beginner-Friendly Instructions – DCS Optimized Textures PowerShell Script Original thread: https://forum.dcs.world/topic/357233-dcs-optimized-textures-powershell-script/ Works on Windows 10/11 64-bit. What You Need Create a folder on your Desktop Suggested name: DCS Optimized Textures Download and place the following files into that folder: a) Script Go to: https://gist.github.com/zbysiek/8df79276f659674b3926a0a757050f2f Click Download ZIP (top-right) Extract the file dcs-texture-optimizer.ps1 into the folder Delete the ZIP file if you want b) TexConv Go to: https://github.com/microsoft/DirectXTex/releases Scroll to Assets under the latest release Find texconv.exe, right-click > Save link as… Save into the same folder c) PowerShell 7 Go to: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/powershell/scripting/install/installing-powershell-on-windows Download PowerShell-7.5.1-win-x64.msi Run the installer and complete setup Cleanup Before Running Go to your main DCS installation folder Delete these folders if they exist: _backup _downloads This helps avoid processing unnecessary files. How to Run the Script Open PowerShell as Administrator Press Windows key, type powershell, Right-click > Run as Administrator In the window, type: Set-ExecutionPolicy Unrestricted Press Enter Then close the window Go to your DCS Optimized Textures folder Right-click inside the folder (not on a file) Choose Open with PowerShell 7 Do NOT run as admin Make sure the console path is correct. If needed, type: cd "$env:USERPROFILE\Desktop\DCS Optimized Textures" and press Enter Start the script by typing: .\dcs-texture-optimizer.ps1 and press Enter A window will pop up – choose your main DCS install folder Wait for the script to finish. This may take some time. Restore PowerShell Security (Recommended) When done: Open PowerShell as Administrator again Type: Set-ExecutionPolicy Restricted Press Enter That’s it. Now you have to install it into DCS. HOW-TO: Install DCS Optimized Textures using OvGME This guide explains how to install the DCS Optimized Textures using OvGME, a simple mod manager. Step 1: Download and Install OvGME Go to: https://github.com/jweisner/ovgme On the left side of the page, click "Releases" – latest is version 1.7.4 From the list, download this file: https://github.com/jweisner/ovgme/releases/download/v1.7.4/ovgme_1_7_4_setup_64.exe Run the downloaded file: ovgme_1_7_4_setup_64.exe Complete the installation Step 2: Prepare the Mods Folder Go to your main DCS installation folder Example: C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World Create a new folder named "_MODS" (if it doesn't already exist) Inside "_MODS", create a new folder called "Optimized Textures" Go to the folder on your Desktop where you ran the DCS Optimized Textures script Copy the entire "Mod" folder from there into the "Optimized Textures" folder Final result should look like: C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World\_MODS\Optimized Textures\Mod\Bazar... Step 3: Configure OvGME Open OvGME Click the "New" button to create a new configuration You can name it "DCS Core" or anything you like Set the paths: Mods folder: point to the "_MODS" folder Example: C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World\_MODS Root folder: point to your DCS main folder Example: C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World Click OK You should now see the "Optimized Textures" mod listed Step 4: Enable the Mod Select the mod from the list (click it) Click "Enable selected" You can enable more than one mod at a time To disable a mod, select it and click "Disable selected" Notes: You only need to enable the mod once. It stays active until you disable it. If you move your mods folder later, update the configuration paths in OvGME. This guide uses the _MODS folder inside your DCS install. Saved Games folder is not needed here. If you have any questions or run into problems, feel free to ask in this thread.2 points

If you’re relying on the yaw SAS to keep you stable transitioning from forward flight to a hover and vice versa, you’re doing it wrong. The system does not have the authority to keep the nose where you would like it to be, and it’s not designed for that. It is not an auto pilot, the proper procedure whenever you’re making large changes to airspeed, power, altitude, etc is to hold the force trim interrupted and *fly* the helicopter. Real pilots have crashed perfectly good helicopters because they relied on the automation (which they didn’t understand couldn’t do what they wanted/expected) rather than just…flying the helicopter. Yes. There are known issues with excessive torque, but your issue is specific to failing to fly the aircraft and interact with the flight controls as they’re intended to be used.2 points

Location per google maps: https://maps.app.goo.gl/w93Es3U1VHZHKJaP9 This is a very imposing man-made hill in Panjwayi. First the Soviets, then coalition forces, utilized it as a stronghold to control the area. It has considerable historical significance. In DCS, the satellite image of it can be seen on the ground, but the hill is not there. I understand it seems the choice was made not to build the FOBs (that's OK, I understand this allows for more mission flexibility), but if the hill could be included it would be greatly appreciated. It's a key terrain feature in the area. A similar one called Ghundey Ghar (https://maps.app.goo.gl/5XEvkwer2gbsN6Z3A) exists to the northwest, and that hill / mountain appears to have been modelled in the map. Similar effort for Sperwan Ghar would be awesome. A photo of Sperwan Ghar:2 points
