  2. Also, there will be a patch rolling out around mid-October that optimizes pi_server’s CPU utilization.

  4. I don't know if this is typical, but I prefer to learn enough Russian and Cyrillic to be able to orient myself in the cockpit while keeping the original unit system and labels. After all, this is a soviet plane, and as an aviation geek part of my joy is learning that CAY refers to autopilot in Russian . To help your non-Russian speaking customers planning to enjoy the airplane in its original unit system and language, could you include all the reference speeds, altitude and such in metric unit in the DCS manual ? (keeping their imperial unit equivalent for those preferring to keep their habit or who just wish to compare). Thank you.

  7. I think it doesn't really matter. It's safe to say that currently every aircraft, be it a flyable module or AI is "broken" when it comes to the rendering of ext lights. I used to do bug reports for those issues, but they got ignored, so that's why it's a humble wishlist item now. I'm afraid that ED is silently aware that ext lights are broken since forever, but acknowledging that as bugs would put too much pressure on them to actually fix it?! It should not be rocket science to do it right, but would just need one orchestrated effort from the engineering and art departments. Every other game does this well and does it well since forever. It's negligence for the night environment and not an illusive art problem or a complex technical challenge. I sometimes hope that this is something that is on the back burner until vulcan get rolled out, but on the other hand it should not be complex enough for the vulcan switch to even affect it too much. It's a frustrating situation...

  8. I was using Cirrocumulus 3 on a sunrise Kola flight and saw the same sort of issue in the top layer there, but not nearly as severe as that photo. Didn't think to grab a screenshot when I was on but can get it next session if needed. Fantastic mod by the way - thank you! Looking forward to those 2.1 cirrus clouds!

  10. What puts me off of public MP is the lack of hardcore servers that enforce realistic gameplay, through realistic mission settings (e.g. no units and aircraft visible on the F10 map, including your own aircraft) and custom server rules (e.g. no takeoff from taxiways, no refueling/rearming on the runway). Maybe there are such servers, but I'm not aware of any atm (there definitely have been in the past, e.g. @Alpenwolf's server). It would help a lot if the DCS server browser would offer gameplay filters, so you can filter for servers which offer gameplay settings that suit you. And yes, I'm aware that organized squadrons offer that kind of gameplay, but I just don't like the restrictions that come with it. I much prefer public MP, where I can fly whenever I want, don't need to enter into any comittments.

  11. The principle difference between fixed and rotary wing flying is that a fixed wing aircraft will, without any input from the pilot fly perfectly well all by itself in most circumstances. A helicopter requires constant inputs, and not only that, each control input has second and third order effects which need to be countered. This is the trick. At first you will be reacting to each effect but with time you will learn to anticipate the required corrections and without even thinking you will move cyclic, collective and rudder (anti-torque) pedals as one. Some of the best youtube videos I have seen are by vsTerminus - YouTube - these are mostly Mi-8 but the principle is the same, and importantly, the main rotor rotation is the same as the Gazelle (unlike the American stuff which turn the opposite way confusing things further - don't try to learn the Huey and Gazelle at the same time!). Helicopters require a lot of practice but once it clicks they will start to feel more natural. The beauty of DCS means you can have as many tries as you need, without expensive repair or hospital bills!

  12. Update. Both sides have been assembled.. And jeez this thing is big, I keep going back to the 3d model and taking measurements in case there was a mistake.. . Cause I am using a next level gaming seat I have to raise the sides up by approx 95mm (can use the adjustable feet to help). So I am building shaped platforms either side (that's tomorrow's job, along with other things). Also trying to work out how I will get in and out of the pit, as I currently have a banged up knee. Options are to hinge the left side just past the throttle, or remove the last rib and try and slide into the seat from there (seat is currently in it's most backwards position). I am thinking I will make a hinge for easy access. Happy to take thoughts on this.

  15. Hello everyone, I'm a bit disapointed, The description said : "The NS 430 for the MiG-29A module integrates the NS 430 panel directly into the MiG-29A cockpit (not as a pop-up display). The NS 430 is fully wired into the electrical and radio systems of the MiG-29A. For work of this module, you must also own the DCS: NS 430 and DCS: MiG-29A modules. The NS 430 GPS navigation system, is an optional add-on module for DCS World aircraft. It provides powerful, yet intuitive, navigation and radio communications options to supplement the navigation and radio systems already integrated into our aircraft. The NS 430 is particularly useful for older aircraft with less sophisticated navigation and communication systems." So maybe I'm idiot and don't understand yet how radios are working, or maybe I blindly bought a product trusting what I read. Now after searching I mostly read that those radios aren't working for any module. Can anyone prove me that I'm wrong? I would be really happy to use them correctly rather than believe that I was trapped. Pouga

  16. What is "Fulcrum", the aircraft isn't called that, why did they even add that nickname? Will the lightning 2 be called "F-35 penguin"?

  17. Sadly I mainly read this : "Serves as both a communications radio, navigation radio, and GPS receiver" I think the least ED can do is revise the descriptions so as not to (unintentionally) mislead buyers, the real NS430 is that yes.

  20. There was a significant amount of noise about it, and it was a significant change. Iron bombing feels quite good now. Very enjoyable. LGB's can be placed amongst a group of vehicles like a SAM site. Possible to destroy an entire SAM site with one or two well placed bombs.

  22. Point 1, I don't have anything to report on where it is at in development, but I do understand it to be incredibly complex and you can see aspects changing the core already if you look hard enough. I will ask about a dev report, as it's been a minute. Point 2, The AI is constantly being worked on and improved. The DC AI will most likely have aspects unique to how DCs work. Of course, our AI guys and DC Team talk and work together all the time Point 3. I won't talk about the personal and private conversation between two people; I wasn't there, I do not know the context. That said, I have not seen anything to suggest we don't care about the game aspect of DCS, and in fact, I see improvements to this all the time. Look at DCS back in the A-10C and Ka-50 only days and where we are now, I think, while not always as fast as everyone wants, we are making improvements, and it required hiring people more about gaming and less about simulation. For example, hires for the DC.

  23. I think all major points have already been made, but there is another slightly more subtle argument, that i call the penny pusher problem: Public PvP in supposedly deep tactical games can feel like coin pushers: You can approach the game with skill and planning, but the tactical outcome is determined less by your individual input and more by the unpredictable cascade of random strangers piling in. Each round looks the same on the surface, yet wildly different results occur depending on who happens to show up and how they collide. Without roleplay, or at least shared intent, the illusion of a tactical layer collapses into arbitrary social randomness. Players might believe their actions are decisive, while in reality their agency is constantly undercut by uncontrollable and completely opaque variables. That kind of randomness can work in Quake, where chaos is the point and individual skill shines through nevertheless, but in a game that sells itself on tactical depth and interconnected systems it creates frustration imho, because what should feel like a battle of strategy ends up feeling like a chance based arcade machine. This randomness is arbitrary and opaque: It creates noise rather than depth. Therefore it should not be mistaken for the kind of randomness that fuels replayability in well designed dynamic scenarios (dynamic campaign?!) where variation emerges from clear rules and systemic design. In those scenarios, even losing can be satisfying, because players can see how their choices interacted with the rules. PS: I think the penny pusher problem captures the dilemma where public PvP inevitably drifts toward airquake, despite mechanics that on the surface aim to promote coordination and tactical play.

  24. I for one am simply not interested in MP. Speaking PvE: I want to fly, when I have time, not when a server happens to be full. I want to fly what (plane and mission) I want, not what is on the menu for some virtual squadron. Speaking PvP: I am in no mood to spawn, do a time consuming cold start only to be blown to pieces on the taxiway, by friend or foe. And yes, my aged brain is simply too slow to compete with teens who spend all their time in front of screen. In short, I simply don't miss anything in my SP world.

  25. Hi, Would it be possible to consider the idea of making a "Turn off light" trigger similar to the "Destroy Scenery" one ? It would allow people to create a more elaborate trigger i.e. : if this building is destroy (lets say XYZ powerstation) then "Turn off building light" within the shaped area. It would allow to "simulate" more immersively some "airstrike" and the "effect they have on the battlefield". Opinion ?

  26. It took a week to download the update and get the MiG installed but I finally have it. All I can say is "Wow!" Just had time to take her up for a quick circuit around Senaki. The takeoff handling is extremely smooth. And it's handling on landing was even better. With a bit less than the 60% fuel I took off at and 2 AAMs on the wings, she touched down at 260 km/hr, just as she should. Wonderful. Now I just need to find the time to learn this machine.

  27. @HUZARN If you expect the professional approach from developers, write a professional and clear message, everyone will respect it. You have described a turn from 700kmh airspeed and 35-40 deg but it mean precisely nothing for aerodynamics nor flight manuals. Take a look at MiG29 Flight Manual book of your colleague, take a look at Practical Aerodynamics of MiG-29 book (Russian language only), analyze the diagrams and let us know what is wrong with DCS model. You could use your friend-pilot flight data from real flight and compare with DCS flight data. Real MiG29 flight data was several times compared with DCS - it happened on this sub-forum for Russian language discussion.

  31. I appreciate this topic coming up again, because your previous responses say it works as intended. Personally, the explanation for the desirability of this reflection behavior don’t make any sense to me in light of the perfect mirror behavior of fhe F-14 and Viggen. I haven’t seen any VR users say this is a desirable feature in the F-4. In fact, it’s vertigo inducing and uncomfortable in VR. I don’ fly this module anymore because this, along with the lagging stick movement responses, create a very uncomfortable VR experience, unlike any other module in DCS. I guess what I’m hoping to see in this thread is an acknowledgement that mirror lag is a problem, not a solution to a problem I didn’t realize existed in any other HB module. That’s why hearing your response as a HB representative saying that this issue has been previously reported, but that it’s working as intended, is not comforting. It’s just saying that HB aren’t going to change it because it’s by design. I’m giving HB user feedback saying this particular design choice is creating some pretty significant problems, and solving none (at least based on not experiencing reflection problems in other modules). If HB is solving a problem with this reflection behavior, it’s completely unclear to me what the problem actually is, at least based your current explanation.

  34. I would reccomend DCS Retribution/Liberation to players who are waiting for dynamic campaign. It's IMO one of most infuential mod for DCS, and definitely worth trying, if You are into more immersive scenarios, but be advised, that enviroment with tens of AI planes, emphasizes all current issues with DCS that have to be fixed, before ED make their own DC. Some are mentioned taxi bugs, lack of sirious ATC, or AI killing themselves midair and bad fuel menagement, those to be alleviated first before DC. Also some AI modules have terrible AI, from bad BVR strategy, to crashing into the ground as wingman. You dont see those in scripted/paid campaigns or in small missions/training, but in anything resembling military operation, they are striking

  36. Indeed, the vsTerminus Videos are awesome. Unfortunately he quit making videos a while ago, but the Mi-8 tutorials are still great! (and as Lace correctly pointed out, applicable to the Gazelle). (btw. the Mi-8 is the Helicopter that I learned flying on in DCS. Of course that is personal bias, but I would choose the Hip over the Huey everyday. But this is also because I'm a sucker for the switchology in the Hip. No coldstart is more satisfying than the russian bus....)

  37. Even though I realy like the BMS DC and think that there are a lot of aspects to "copy" if you want to make a good experience, I´m realy curious about EDs approach. So for a dev report I would wish to learn more about EDs vision for the campaign. What is the goal? Wich aspects do they want to invent to make it original? I know we are years appart from the ultimate Air Combat Sim. But if all teased things like DC, entire world, new ATC and new AI come together one day, this could get the best we ever hoped for. I just don’t know if I’ll still be around to see it, or if by then I’ll already be fighting dogfights in a wheelchair at the dementia ward. Given the timescale of years to decades from announcement to early access there will be a window of opportunity for an ambitious competitor. So keeping the fire alive should be a vital interesst of the devs.

  39. I flew solo in SP for many years. I had a negative view of MP due to all the noise about cheaters and griefers etc AND it's pretty intimidating (even for someone who is pretty computer literate) to just know how to actually start into MP on a software/hardware/connection level. And that's before you have to actually know details about procedures etc. I finally dipped my toes into MP because I was running out of missions/campaigns and started browsing some sites and discords for virtual squadrons. I got extremely lucky and stumbled on a great group that I love flying with and have learned so much from that I never would have learned on my own. It was quite a learning curve up front (even as a reasonably experienced flier) but well worth it in the end. Looking at other groups I can definitely see how I might have sworn off MP again if I had landed in them because it wouldn't have been a good fit for style of play or just the personality things others have mentioned.

  40. I couldn't find the previous post, hence the new one. Thanks, good to know it will be revisited eventually. Btw, I've been flying in VR for years mostly the F14 and never noticed any jumping animations that would throw me off. Sounds like there are two types of sensitive people, one to jumping animations, others to laggy image

  42. It's funny how some people fall obsessively in love with DCS, and then something that was there all along becomes too much for them to bear and causes them to cast it aside - and they become like those people who've divorced their partner, but the anger still dominates their consciousness. They can't let go, and instead their energy goes into persuading everyone they can that their one-time love is the cause of all the ills in the world.
