  1. Welcome to the forum ! Windows system power setting to high performance ? Windows game mode off ? Nvidea power management to high performance ? How about a screenshot of your DCS settings ? While DCS is far from optimised , you should be experiencing much better performance than you're getting . I had better with my old system with an i5-6500 and a 1060 3gb gpu . So don't despair , we'll get you there !
  2. Yes , i have used vr optician lens inserts on two headsets now (CV1 and Rift S) . I will be using them for the G2 as well . You don't have to "modify" your prescription . VR uses "far" vision , not "near" . Just supply your original prescription (and ipd) and they'll do the rest .
  3. I have my pilot body toggle bound to a hotas switch . Simple . Effective . And no further performance loss in an already-marginal VR title .
  4. All indications are that Vulkan is yet years (plural) away . Kate and Chizh have both made statements to that effect , though without that precise language . I further fear the implementations of features such as dynamic weather , new effects , higher res models etc , etc will lead to further performance degradation in VR well before the engine changes arrive . Perhaps we can change ED's mind regarding DLSS 2.0 to help keep DCS playable in the interim , at least on the graphics side .
  5. Welcome to the forum ! I have yet to try it myself , but some say the haptic pads (Jetseat , Forcefeel ) work for pre-stall buffet in DCS , and i think slips/skids as well . Old Microsoft Sidewinder FF1 , FF2 sticks provide force feedback in DCS .
  6. Agreed . My interest lasted until i heard just how much personal info is required , that FB can kill your headset if you enter any dummy info and the aforementioned ads . Back to the G2 plan ! FB may as well use "black mirror" lenses going forward .
  7. Necro-ed , but welcome to the forum !
  8. I would be willing to burn a lot of performance to lose that shimmering ! It really ruins the otherwise-stellar graphics of DCS . Wanna see bad terrain ? Try Aerosoft ! The only sim i've ever flown whose graphics kinda turn my stomach . Between the shimmering and the further loss of performance to be expected with the new clouds and weather arriving (several years) before the new engine , i fear being forced into another sim in lieu of DCS anyway .
  9. I can't believe how our tolerance for pricing has changed . People screamed bloody murder at the 2080ti's price of $1200-1400 . Now we are blithely discussing a card whose street price will run $1800-2000+ as though that's the new norm . Humans never fail to amuse me-except when they horrify me . Having said that , i myself will be considering a 3080ti which will prolly run $1200+ . Guess i amuse me as well :)
  10. Just learned about this myself . "0" bin is capable of stock to ~5% overclocking , "1" bin is capable of ~10% , and "2" is ~15+ oc . The higher bin chips also will run cooler at stock clocks .
  11. The post suggested mfaa , not fxaa . I have no opinion as to whether it works or not .
  12. Sounds like a lighting issue is causing 3dof instead of 6 .
  13. Guess it does require a graphics card for Link usage... https://uploadvr.com/set-oculus-link-resolution/ Still very interesting . Would love to see the wife freak out in standalone easy-to-use VR , while I have the option to use Link with DCS . Half the price (+-) of a G2 as well .
  14. Yes , degree of ugliness . Not an issue for me , but the rgb guys are going nuts !
  15. 16th i think . (For the 3080) https://www.thefpsreview.com/2020/09/11/nvidia-geforce-rtx-3070-sales-begin-oct-15-rtx-3080-review-embargo-lifting-sept-16/
  16. There is something fundamentally wrong here . I was running 1080p with an i5-6500 and and a GTX 1060 3gb at a locked 60fps low over cities with good graphics .
  17. Now , now rotorhead :) No need to overstate . (And i fly the Huey) https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=285806 I think it has more to do with cpu demands of modelling 4 engines (especially with props) , customer demand , map sizes , etc .
  18. Near-Reverb resolution plus the standalone capability make this a very interesting headset indeed ! And the OP previously noted in another post that the link functionality actually works well in DCS with the original Quest . Oh , and the link runs off a usb port , so no need for a graphics card ? Let's see . $1300-1500 ( or more ) for a G2 and a 3080 , vs $400 for the highest version Quest . Very , very interesting .
  19. If so , then it's a feature , not a bug , and a very cool one at that !
  20. Is it getting warm in here ?
  21. Excellent !
  22. Yeah , that throttle travel is a bit short .
  23. Helpful post !
  24. This statement bothers me a little tho... "Then you can move freely in it, and the world in the background does not start to shimmer. We have started with VR, but we want to do it right." You don't have to move in the cockpit to experience the godawful shimmering and flickering in DCS VR . Hoping the G2's higher resolution relative to my S will help .
  25. I'm one :) Nav exercises , pattern work , nap-of-the-earth and bad-weather flying etc are just as much fun as blowing stuff up in VR .
